Preliminary results of South Sudan referendum to be announced January 30
January 25, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – Preliminary results of the referendum in South Sudan will be announced on January 30 in the region’s capital Juba as a precursor to the announcement of full preliminary results in the national capital Khartoum three days later, the authority managing the exercise has declared.
In a press conference held on Tuesday at Al-Salam Rotana Hotel in Khartoum, Southern Sudan Referendum Commission (SSRC) announced that preliminary results of the referendum in South Sudan would be announced on January 30 in Juba by Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau, which is the SSRC’s branch in the region.
The commission further said that full preliminary results would be announced on in Khartoum on February 2 at which point the window for lodging legal appeals against the results would open up.
If no legal challenges are submitted, the commission said, the final results would be announced on February 7; otherwise the final results would be announced on February 14.
The referendum on South Sudan independence took off as originally planned on January 9 and ended on 15 of the same month amid reports of a landslide vote in favor of secession.
South Sudan has already exceeded the 60% turnout required to validate the results of the referendum. The outcome will be determined by the simple majority, 50% plus one vote.
The vote is the centerpiece of a 2005’s peace deal that ended nearly half a century of intermittent civil war between north and south Sudan.
In the press conference, SSRC chairperson Mohamed Khalil Ibrahim vaunted that the commission had managed to conquer three primary problems in the process of organizing the vote. According to Ibrahim, the commission had managed to reconcile the overlapping of jurisdictions with Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau upon which the Southern Sudan Referendum Act (SSRA) devolved powers amounting to that of the commission itself.
The SSRA is the legislative framework under which the eleven-member SSRC was officially appointed on June 30, 2010.
Khalil also said the commission had to grapple with the tight timeframe, which stood at only four months when the commission was appointed. He further pointed out that the commission had only received 26.600.000 Sudanese pounds out of 400.000.000 pledged by the government, adding that the money factor constituted a stumbling block to implementing the referendum in the desired way.
The SSRC head previously said that holding the referendum on time would be a miracle.
The commission also confirmed reports that the referendum results are showing mass votes in favor of secession. South Sudan officials on Sunday disclosed that the new would be called the Republic of South Sudan.

The superpower of Dinkas and their strategy MONJANG/DINKA cannot be deceived easily otherwise we would have not reached this golden opportunity. Hope and willingness can bring you bright future. A superpower is a state with a dominant position in the international system which has the ability to influence events and its own interests and project power on a worldwide scale to protect those interests. A superpower is traditionally considered to be one step higher than a great power
To all southerners, this is a time to thank the great leadership of Dinka for this freedom of today. May God bless south Sudan and their brave leader from Dinkas

Now that it is clear the new nation birth will be declared very soon I think it should be named a name other than Republic of South Sudan as was decided by some folks from the SSG. First I don’t know who gave them the right to pick this name and who appointed them? I think naming of the new nation should be determined by vote of all the citizens of the new nation not by these people who already think they own it. I thin the name Sudan should be removed from the name. If it is called South Sudan and the north called Sudan that makes the new nation as baby of the old one just like Africa and South Africa, Africa is the mother and South Africa is just one baby of the mother. So leave the name Sudan for the original Sudanese and come up with a different name. Just my opnion..

Dear Readers.
Don’t put it in your mind that what you have just read had been written by one of the Dinkas people or Nuers however,it could have been written by one of our enemies from the north.all Southerners should unite one another and praise one another for the amazing job that we have shown to the world.tribalism is nonesense and will never lead us to success and unity.tribalism is a stupidity and destruction to our civil societies, tribalism always stire up the live of good communities, tribalism and the hatred braveness greedness,toughness,kinness,self-importance need to be keep away within the South because they,re NOTHING.let us integrate one another as one nation.Republic of South Sudan or whatever you guys might name it doesn’t matter, what matter to us is UNITY.
we know that our leaders from the begining have killed some of our people and we forgave them their mistakes,Dr:Garang,Dr:Riek Dr:Lam H.E Kiir and uncountable number, those leaders have kill many people even within their own tribe, why can we let the past go alone and starting shaping the new South Sudan in a new prospective way where everyone can walk on the sidewalk with more freedom and dignity?
i hate people who wake up and starting using the word tribalism.
