NCP official blames SPLM for Sudan’s breakup

February 1, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – A senior official of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) in north Sudan has blamed the dominant Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in the south for the bifurcation of the country, saying it was never the will of southern people to split.

The semi-autonomous region of south Sudan voted almost unanimously for secession from the north in a weeklong referendum last month. The plebiscite marked the final phase of the 2005’s Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), which ended more than two decades of intermittent civil war between the south and the north.

Salah Gosh, a senior NCP official and presidential adviser for security affairs, suggested in a symposium organized on Tuesday by his party in Khartoum that the SPLM is to be blamed for south Sudan secession.

Gosh said the NCP had offered many concessions to the SPLM outside the purview of the CPA in order to render unity attractive, including cession of the north’s share in oil revenues, increasing the SPLM’s representation in the federal government and maintaining the existence of the SPLA – the SPLM’s military wing.

But the SPLM and “those standing behind it” wanted the south to secede and thus put forward their main request to establish a secular system and abolish Islamic Shrai’ah law, Gosh said.

“At which point we told them we are with separation and we will not compromise on the Shari’ah issue no matter the outcome,” he added.

The divisive issue of Shri’ah law played a major role in fueling conflicts between the predominantly Muslim north and the south where most people ascribe to Christianity or traditional beliefs.

The second spell of rebellion in the south erupted in 1983 following the imposition of Shri’ah law by former Sudanese president Jafar Nimairi, and lasted until the CPA negotiations started to make progress in early 2004.

According to Gosh, the SPLM resorted to the choice of secession after it realized that its secular project had no supporters in north Sudan except the “residues” leftist parties, adding that secession was never the choice of southerners.

Recently, Sudan President Omar Al-Bashir declared that Shari’ah will be the only source of lawmaking in the country after south Sudan secession.

Separately, Salah Gosh reflected on the 21-year rule of the government in north Sudan, saying that Al-Inqaz or Salvation – the original name president’s Al-Bashir regime – had not been running a state in the proper definition of the term but rather fighting off crises.

The current government of President Al-Bashir took over power through a military coup that toppled the government of then elected Prime Minister Al-Sadiq al-Mahdi in 1989.

Gosh pointed out that the government had inherited “an economic situation beyond collapse, a vicious war and political disintegration.” He added that the fact that the government’s efforts intensified towards solving problems, including that of the south, had crippled its broader project.

North and south Sudan are yet to resolve post-referendum arrangements, including shares of oil revenues, currency and external debts.

Haaaaa, ha Salah Boosh, the day GOD was giving minds to people you must have gone to herd your goats somewhere. You want Sharia laws in all Sudan and you want all people of South Sudan either to be Muslims OR Arabs by force. I am sure tomorrow you will blame people of Blue Nile, Nuba,Eastern Sudan and Darfur, for separation and when you are going to your grave realize that you were the one who dismantle Sudan, and your own house as well.

    Salah Gosh,

How can you blame SPLM while NCP had been neglecting the South for decades. Where are schools, hospitals, roads, government buildings, and many other kind of development in the South when we were united.

Sudan has been together for long times but there were no sign of unity among the citizens of Sudan. You said the secession is not the will of South Sudanese, then what promote them to vote you out for 99%.

You are lying to the public my dear Salah. Why not you remove Sharia laws long time ago instead of this difficult time of fed up.

We do not want your resources in the North because you have been using by yourselves with the South. Everything around you is completely understood as a mess.

Please just built relationship with South under different context. Thanks

    Salah Ghost.

What are you complaining for.? The SPLM were not incharge of the Sudan government I think you know that don’t you. Your Party NCP were the one you should talk to them. First of all, we thoughts the incharge Party which is NCP will started immediately rebuilding Southern Sudan and the rest of the regions in Sudan, but it did not happen until the last year of six years for peace agreement caught them up, when we just see the North Sudan are doing same fool tactices as usually fortunately, Southern Sudanese are not same as our an Old Southern Sudanese who signed peace agreement in 1972, Addis Ababa and later Jaafar destrory it.

Secondly, we have been seen the incharge Party of North Sudan were not absolutely willing to change any things particular, the five years of the SPLM experiences was so amazing when NCP made a gimmick rules on Southern Sudanese in every things, some time the SPLA have to spent 6 months without pay roll while the SAF were getting pay, because they have own Central Bank is that thing shown we will be united or divid don’t worry we have already got the answer and yes, the April election was another good example that, Sudan should and must be divided in to two nations, because there is no reason for we Southern Sudanese people to vote for unity when the people incharge in Sudan’s government are unwilling to accept some of the Ideas from Southern Sudanese people.

Thirdly, we have also seen from the beginning of Malakal conflicting and many others places that, Sudan government was supporting Southern Sudanese militia in order to destroying the peace agreemen so that, you guys think will back us like the Addis Ababa peace agreement in 1972, but thank God that, the SPLM were very smarters people unlikely to the first movement’s leadership. Omar al Bashir had repeatedly that, he will not change Islamic of Shariah law in Sudan’s government,”saying even if the Southern Sudanese want to go they can go.I don’t see any reason here why are you putting blame on the SPLM instead of your own the Northern Sudanese people.

There is no room to blame SPLM,it,s NCP instead. Since 1956 southerners were not considered as they are human beings but only to work as labourers under the leadership of NCP. Do not talk of some body standing behayind SPLM even trees in South Sudan will not acept to remaind united with North.

    Dear Salah Gosh,

Put your mouth off Southern Sudan issues because you have hand in it. have you forgotten that you went to Iraq to see nothing but ask majahdins who will come and finish off Southerners. Please check your profile on the google. we in Southern Sudan are well aware of who you are. infact you must thanks God that you have never been drag to court for answering. However, you like any other North Sudanese awaits huge punishment ahead.

Have you forgotten that it is SPLM, that Partnered NCP in Naivasha?
Aren’t those running the SPLM Southern Sudanese?
Who are the members of the SPLM party?

In the middle of your article, you put some blame on NCP. thanks for that. but we shall forgive Al Bashir for if not him, this referendum would not have been successfull as it has proved to be.
All others including Al Turabi deserved no forgiveness.

Just accept the results and start mourning if you think you have been hurt by the results of the referendum while Al Bashir and us celebrate in Juba comes any time this month.

Yes Mr. Aleu. You have described and named him correct. Gosh is Ghost. This man is not a true figure in politics of the Sudan. Why blaming the SPLM? He should blame the Nothern ruling cliques of the Sudan since 1956. What have they done to the Southern Sudanese? Salah during this short period of being Security Advisor to the President he had uttered to the public many warnings to Southern Sudanese who were leaving in the North. He is the very wrong typical advisor to the president, the dictator and the cause of threats, the commander of the Misseriah who killed the returnees.

This referendum outcome was for the Southern Sudanese People including members of NCP who are Southerners and therefore there is point of putting blame on the SPLM.

Just wait for a moment and if you are not changing your minds towards South Sudan than time will come to build a wall along the boarder line so that there will be no more relationship between the North and the South.

What Gosh shuold be advocating for is to correct himself and reitelate his wrong statements just like President Bashir for future relations with the South. South is still looking forward on how you will manage Post-referendum issues. Otherwise, no blame to any party in the South but mind for your own weaknesses. The cause for Separation is absolutely your fault. Just look forward to prevent the Separation of Darfur too.

Mr. Salah Gosh, you are devil as defined by your name Gosh. How can your dirty small brains can say SPLM is responsible for the Sudan breakup. Don’t you Arabs ask yourselves of what you were been doing to us in Sudan.

If your dullard masters such as Beshir and Ali osman Taha recognize South independent, who are you to blame SPLM. South has known that you are the virus eating up the south.
Don’t come to the South, the blood that poured down during the war has not yet dry. You may get stuck and die.

Blaming SPLM cannot help you at all, any way that is the last kick of the dying horst, what I can advise is to try hard to build relationship with the South. South is going to be a rich Country and North will remain with poverty and alot of conflict will arise in the North Sudan after the break off of the South, and let me remind you that when the poverty stand at the door the love skim out through the window, difinatley you are going to fight over few resources and the love amongst you will run a way and if you build freindship with the South you might get a little room to survive with the South, so please stop blaming SPLM

Shame on you Sallah Gosh,You blame your fucking NCP. We now that tears can not be lean against the tree. But at this time, you should admit what your Arabs regimes did for Southerns. If your to be just you should correct those mistreatment of Southerns by your regimes.

Your leaders since the independent of Sudan your been sowing seeds of discord in preaching tribalism, racism, categorizing citizens into class and religious misunderstanding.
