Sudanese official accuses opposition of seeking a regime change

February 1, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese presidential adviser for security affairs, Salah Gosh, detailed what he said is a plot by various opposition parties to topple the regime making use of the imminent separation of the South.

Gosh said that the Sudanese Communist Party (SCP) and the Popular Congress Party (PCP) are seeking to launch a political campaign to confront the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) through mass uprising.

He further said that another faction within the Sudanese opposition comprised of the National Umma Party (NUP) and the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) wants to oust the government but is hesitant because it believes that it may not be possible to achieve that goal.

The NCP official ruled out a repetition of events in Egypt and Tunisia saying there is major difference given the widespread support for the government in Sudan by the people.

He claimed that the PCP and opposition leader Mubarak Al-Fadil acknowledged the impossibility of that scenario because security organs in Sudan will not remain neutral as in the two North African countries.

Opposition parties demand that the NCP headed government of president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir dissolves itself, forms an interim government, conducts new elections, writes a new constitution, resolves the Darfur crisis and reverses decision raising food prices.

But the NCP dismissed such calls, saying however it is open to incorporating some of the opposition parties in the new government to be formed after Southerners leave the posts they occupy as part of the power sharing deal in the 2005 peace agreement.

A loose coalition of Northern opposition parties known as the ‘Alliance Forces’ have failed to agree on a joint strategy to achieve their stated goals between those who want to decide on regime change and others who call for dialogue with the NCP before making such a resolution.

The NUP leader and ex-PM Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi met with Bashir earlier this month causing outrage among other opposition parties who felt betrayed. However, the NUP defended its move saying it was not an indication of backing away from their demands.

But on Tuesday, the head of the alliance forces said that they will proceed with its plan to topple the government saying that they will not “fill in the blanks” of the post-referendum cabinet.

    Advice!

The following should happen after announcement of final results by 14th February:

    1) NCP ruling party in the North should form a broad based coalition government inclusive of northern political parties.

    2) The SPLM ruling party in the South should also, as in the roadmap agreement of October 2010, form a broad based government inclusive of various political parties in the South.

This will calm down the political instability in both North and South. Then the two independent regions will peacefully focus on forging good relations between them.

MR. Ghost (NOT hear Ghosh) you deal with those opposition parties the way you like, BUT leave the southerners alone!
The faction you talked of within Sudanese is only in the north, find it out then work them out.

    Gatwech,
Your advice maybe correct. However, Parties are teaching the public how to fight for food and not services. For Instance, these parties in the North have been in power and in positions of the ruling Government ever since but all failed. Let us mind less in the South.

This time let us see who can really deliver services to the People. For the Broad based Government we can determine the party who can deliver service to the People through the scope of the vacancy one got in the Government both North and South.

Northern Parties are planning to topple the Government that is to say but will not do it. Historically toppling the Government in Sudan does not take a week or days. It is just an one hour plan and it all gone.
