In a briefing at the state secretariat upon his arrival, the governor urged all the state ministers, honourable members and advisors to work towards the unity of the people of the state.

“We need to build the new-born nation in togetherness, as citizens of the Western Equatoria state. Let us all fight tribalism and nepotism from the state” he said.

Bakosoro said that the referendum results were accepted by the international community, qualifying south Sudan the number 54 state in the content of Africa.

He pointed out that WES had successfully carried the referendum vote, with the preliminary results showing 99.52% voting in favour of separation, despite what some people expected to be “insecurities of the LRA [Lord’s Resistance Army] rebels”.

He urged various ministries to focus on project proposals, cautioning them not to stay in their offices, but move to Juba, to lobby and follow up projects at the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) level.

“I have discovered many projects for Western Equatoria by the World Bank, like, the Ngbingbi Electricity project in Lui, the Amadi water project and many morem,” he said.

The governor also urged the state assembly to influence the discussion on budgets of the state as some of the ministries do not have block grants.

Bakosoro met the vice president of GoSS, Rieck Machar Teny, on the security of the state which he promised “to be discussed in the security meeting at the GoSS level.”

Bakosoro congratulated all the citizens of the state for their efforts which allowed the referendum vote to succeed in the state.

The WES government prioritised the referendum and security in last year’s plans and now it is time to focus on service delivery for the citizens of the state.

The referendum final results are due on 7 February.

The people of WES have made a great choice in picking this governor. Every time I read about him, I start to realize that we as Southerners have come a long way since the days of our fighting the North, and we all should be proud to have such leaders.

I am confident that his greatest accomplishments are yet to be seen, and who knows, may be we have a future President of South Sudan at hand, he certainly will get my vote.
