South Sudan political parties leaders to discuss transitional period on Monday

February 12, 2011 (JUBA) – Leaders of all the political parties in South Sudan will on Monday, February 14, hold a leadership forum meeting to begin discussing the post-referendum arrangements leading to formation of an inclusive broad-based transitional government in July this year.

In accordance with the roadmap resolutions adopted in October 2010 in a conference involving 24 political parties in the region, the parties will reconvene after the referendum to begin implementing the resolutions they agreed in principle and discussing details of arrangements on the future governance in the region.

In a preparatory joint meeting on Friday chaired by the Vice President, Riek Machar, who is also the deputy chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), the secretariat of all the South Sudan political parties converged to prepare the agenda for Monday’s leadership forum meeting.

Machar explained that the President of the government of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, had called for the convening of the post-referendum leadership forum as stipulated in the resolutions and Final Communiqué arrived at in October 2010.

In her statement to the press following the preparatory meeting, the SPLM deputy Secretary General for Southern Sector, Ann Itto, who also participated in the meeting, revealed that the agenda for Monday’s meeting would include the referendum result and the roadmap for future governance as agreed in October last year.

It is also expected that insecurity in the region, especially which has recently erupted in Jonglei state, and the work on constitutional review commission to draft a future constitution will be high on the agenda.

Itto said it was important for all the political parties to move together for the coming period in order to collectively resolve the challenges ahead. She added that such a leadership forum meeting will enhance relations between political parties in the emerging independent country.

Machar said the Southern Sudan 2011 Taskforce, which he chairs, serves as a think-tank for the government as it requires the inclusion of members of all the political parties, civil society organizations and faith-based groups. Invitation letters have been sent requesting organizations to submit names of their representatives.

Earlier he revealed that the government had identified 59 objectives to achieve in the post-referendum period. Among the first is name of the new nation, flag, national anthem and coat-of-arms, which should be ready before the formal declaration and celebrations of independence on July 9.

It was announced by the government official spokesman, Barnaba Marial Benjamin, also a member of the Taskforce, that the name Republic of South Sudan, abbreviated as ‘RoSS’, has already been chosen as the name of the independent and sovereign state.

Other floated proposed names included Azania, Nile Republic and Cush, among others. The preferred ancient name ‘Sudan’, referring to the color black. The other floated name for a long time was the Biblical name ‘Cush or Kush’, which researchers say was originally taken from the Turkish language, which means ‘crazy birds.’

Other top priorities among the 59 objectives include strategy to mobilize recognition of the new independent state by member states in the international community as well as strategy to create a strong sense of national identity and unity among the people of South Sudan.

    Bravo Salva Kiir/Riek Machar,

Bring together all the political parties in the South and form a broad-based government which will include the opposition political parties.

Let all the political parties contribute to resolutions on insecurity by joining the government in convincing rebels like George Athor to stop rebellion and join the broad-based government (either its executive or military wing).
We cannot afford to fight among ourselves as we become independent.

Please, stop those that are working night and day to spoil peaceful processes to end fighting with George Athor, Gabriel Tanginya, David Yauyau and Gatluak Gai.

Let the South adopt strong sense of nationalism and rebuke peace spoilers everywhere in the system and outside the government system.

May God bless Republic of South Sudan (RoSS)!

We rejoice that we can once again express our appreciation to our present Government for its efforts since it came to power in 2005, to restore peace and security is needed, the idea that, all parties have responsibly and positive role in nation building shaping the political, social, economic and religious future of Republic of South Sudan is welcome.

The responsibility of contributing to the common good of society is incumbent on all citizens without exception. Putting together a new Constitution for the country is one way in which the citizens are called upon to fulfill this responsibility. In fact, a national constitution is the fundamental norm governing all the juridical order of a country. It is the basic law from which all the other laws draw their value and authority. They all refer to, it, so that without it they are, so to say, floating in a vacuum and have no binding force. Another function of a national constitution, a cardinal one, is to institutionalise political authority, i.e., to clearly determine how and by whom it may be acquired and exercised. It thus ensures that those who hold authority wield it to promote the common good of the citizenry under their sway, and not arbitrarily or for their own interest.

Concerning the name, I think keeping “Sudan” name is best idea, because, Republic of South Sudan sounds good to every southerner except few individual who always oppose just for nothing, therefore, if the name favor by the majority in South, for the reason that, the name is a well-known name and it reflects the indigenous people of Southern Sudan as the name Sudan comes from the Arabic word as sud (black) or Bilaad as Sudan the land of the blacks. Therefore, Southerners are typically Sudanic and there is no doubt about that. Instead, Northerners should change their own name and leave the whole name “Sudan” for the South.

    Dear: Readers

    This is out the playbook of french foreign which is states;

destabilized and robbed the resources of the weakest state in

Africa if that possible. I see UPPER VOLTA 1983 written all

over this type of gesture by the French in the name of shame

development in disguise! In which Thomas Sankara was murdered by French supported coup by orcherasted by a close friend of his the current president of Burkina Faso(formerly known as the UPPER VOLTA) Blaise Camporaore.

Thomas Sankara was a strong opponent of French involvement in Africa. In which he accused France of not wanting Africa to be independent and feed herself by constantly interfering with its development.

Thomas Sankara the youngest Africa leader when he came to power in 1983 at of 27 was deposed and assassinated four years later in 1987.

I hope and pray that South Sudan leadership call on all our sons & daughters in diaspora who know to well the tricks of

the western world especially the Europeans countries in particular, to come back home and placed them in the

ministries that deals with Foreign, National security and defense policies, so that they can safeguard our sovereignty against this latest scrambles for South Sudan

by Western, Eastern, and even Arab world in a rush to destabilized and robbed it out of its wealth.

When you’re independent country, You’re an open book if you let every body in, without knowing what their interests are.!!
