Sudan Meteorological department comments on rising temperatures
KHARTOUM, May 20, 2004 (SUNA) — The Meteorology Department has attributed the current high temperature to the effects of the relatively hot north-eastern winds and high humidity.
An official source at the Meteorology Department told SUNA that the current high temperature was a consequence of cessation of northern wind currents and the vertical position of the sun.
He pointed out that the inter-convergence zone passes north of Khartoum, a matter which caused increased humidity and temperature.
He pointed out that the highest temperature was 48.8 centigrade registered Wednesday [19 May] in Karima town [Northern State], and also registered 48.7 degree in Donqola city, capital of Northern State. He added that the highest temperature registered in Khartoum city was 45 and the lowest was 31 degree.
