February 18, 2011 (BOR) – Deputy Governor of Jonglei state, Hussein Maar Nyuot, has denied a story published by Khartoum-based-newspaper Al Wifaq on February 7, 2011, stating that he resigned.
Nyuot, called a rally on Friday, February 18 to prove that the claim was false and a “rumour”.
On Tuesday, February 7, The pro northern Sudan ruling National Congress PartyAl Wifaq reported that the “autocratic government” created by governor Kuol Manyang Juuk in Jonglei state had led to resignation of deputy governor, Hussein Maar Nyuot, finance minister, Aquila Maluth Mam and minister of physical infrastructure, Manow Peter Gatkuoth.
The two minister joined Nyuot in his rally to demonstrate that they had also not resigned.
Jonglei governor Juuk, held a public rally the day after the Al Wifaq story emerged to announce that the allegation were not true. At the time Juuk said that the concerned officials were in Juba.
Al Wifaq claimed that the resignation letters were rejected by governor Juuk, saying he has to solve their problems politically.
The same newspaper quoted South Sudan rebel leader George Athor Deng as saying that he would attack Bor, the capital of Jonglei to liberate people from state government. Athor rebelled against the government of South Sudan in April last year after he failed to win the seat of governor in during Sudan’s general elections.
Nyuot, who joined the state government in 2007 as deputy governor, strongly rebutted the Al-Wifaq story saying that the report was created to destabilize the state adding that he went with the two ministers mentioned to Juba for a mission and now they have returned to the state.
“Why do I run away like that, if there is anything that I don’t want in the government, I can call a rally and announce to my people that I am resigning from the government? Why do run like a thief?”, Maar said, while addressing the gathering where he read to the crowd the Al Wifaq report.
Aquila Maluth, the state finance minister, also said he had not resigned and has no intention to resign from the government.
