Catholic University of Sudan needs more lecturers

By Manyang Mayom

March 1, 2011 (RUMBEK) – The Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of the Catholic University of Sudan based in Wau is in need of lecturers.

Fr. Solomon Ewot, member of the Congregation of the Apostles of Jesus, is the Director of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Catholic University of Sudan.

Ewot said that, the Faculty that he heads requires lecturers specialized in one or more of the science subjects, among them, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Mathematics, adding that the ideal would be to recruit Southern Sudanese.

He lamented that the Southern Sudanese who are eligible for the positions have taken up jobs in the government. Ewot noted that the Institute would also face the some challenge of accommodation for expatriate lecturers.

However, he expressed hope that eligible candidates will turn up and take part in the building of the new nation and that they will understand the limitations of the Institute.

Ewot said that “we really require teacher, we need teachers who teach mathematic, physics, chemistry and biology subject – it is hard to get teachers who are Sudanese national, we need teachers with PhD – those who have skill already get employment in the government – we have also lack of accommodations”.

Fr. Ewot also said that the University is inviting students interested in pursuing a degree course in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, adding that these candidates need to have a secondary school certificate and two recommendation letters, one from the previous secondary school and the other from a parish priest or a recognised community leader.

Ewot appealed saying that “we need those who complete secondary school to join this University – the admission needs a certificate and you are required to bring two people with you such as your teacher or community leader to recommend you before you are allowed to join the university class”.

The other subject requiring lecturers at the Catholic University of Sudan, Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, is Accounting. The Wau campus of the Catholic University of Sudan is situated at the former St. Mary Minor Seminary, popularly known as Nazereth, near Mayo Vocational Institute.

While the deadline for the submission of applications for interested students is the end of June 2011, qualified lecturers are expected to submit their applications by the end of March 2011.
