Returnees asked to leave school in Lakes state

March 2, 2011 (RUMBEK) – The Director of South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (SSRRC) in Lakes State, Philip Kot Job, has said the government of Lakes state has decided to relocated returnees who were camping in Comboni Primary School to be relocated in Nyottikangui for their final settlement.
Thousands of people are returning to the South ahead of the region’s independence in January.
Kot said that the local government cleared the ground for the returnees at Nyottikangui, a village located some four kilometers west of Rumbek, the capital of Lakes state. He said he had notified the missionaries who govern Comboni Primary School that would be ready to open and stage classes before the end of March. He added that anyone still camping at Comboni School “has no reason to remain there.”
Kot confirmed that there were some returnees awaiting resettlement at the way station close to his office and that more land is being prepared by the local government.
He explained that his office had given priority to the returnees camping at Comboni Primary School because the school is scheduled to reopen these days. He also mentioned that there is enough land to resettle all the returnees in government of Lakes state plans.
He also discovered that basic facilities like water sources, toilets and a health centre are being prepared for the returnees in their various location of resettlement by both NGOs and the government.
Contrary to the orders of Lakes SSRRC Director, press has confirmed on Tuesday evening that there are still at least 3 dozens of returnees still camping at Comboni Primary School.
Lakes state government says it has received over 2,000 In Rumbek.

I am not clear about reporting ” returnees.. to be relocated in Nyottik-angui for their final settlement.” Why did the Lakes State Government decided that way? Are the returnees be treated like refugees? Why putting them in one side? They will look isolate and these returnees are from all tribes that comprised Lakes State Community. The Government should give each and everyone from the returnees a land to put his/her family up permanantly. What will be the reaction of the Community of Nyottik- Angui the indegenous inhabitants of the Land if the Government decided to take their land in the name of returnees as the basis of future story? That approach is very bad.

Your title to the story is misleading. Your title suggests that Lake state is “rude” not taking care of its citizens. As a journalist, you better think to inform readers, not to alarm them. For jounrnalism is about informing the news in discreet elegance to readers. I see the title to this story too alarming contrary to the theme of the story.
