Uganda President receives leadership award from church
March 17, 2011 (KAMPALA) – Uganda President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has received Orthodox Christian church’s Order of St. Mark, in recognition of good leadership in Kampala on Tuesday.
The Order was bequeathed to President Museveni by Pope and Patriach of Alexandria and the whole of Africa, His Beatitude Theodorous II.
President Museveni gained another five-year fourth term of office in February 18 polls extending his stay in power to 30.
The Order of St. Mark, established in 1985, is awarded to leaders who prove worth and benefit to the Church and work in the struggle for peace and justice.
There is widespread condemnation of Museveni and what was reported by many as the rigged vote which sees him cling onto power.
