Jonglei: WFP food aid reaches families displaced by Athor’s rebellion
April 12, 2011 (BOR) – World Food Program (WFP) has donated 1,300 bags of food to over 200 families affected by conflict in Pigi County, the former base of renegade southern army general George Athor and his forces.
On his return from Pigi County to Bor Airport, governor Manyang told Sudan Tribune that the welfare of the displaced people from the villages formerly occupied by rebel forces loyal to George Athor Deng was the main reason of his visit. He said women and children are starving and the lack of medical facilities is an additional problem
Manyang acknowledge that his request for food and medical assistance to Canal and Khorfulus of Pigi County from World Food Program (WFP) and UNMIS has been accepted, adding WFP is ready to deliver food.
South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission chairperson in Pigi County, Santo Duot, confirmed to Sudan Tribune on Tuesday, April 12, the arrival of WFP donated food to the county last weekend.
Athor began, who formerly resided in Khorfulus of Pigi County, began his rebellion after losing elections in April 2010 against Jonglei’s incumbent governor Kuol Manyang Juuk.
His base in Pigi County was used as a base to launch his attacks to neighboring county, Pangak killing over 200 civilians before his troops were defeated earlier this month. South Sudan’s President Kiir has repeated his call for an amnesty for Athor and his forces as well as other armed groups in the region ahead of the South’s independence in July.
South Sudan will become independent after a referendum – agreed as part of a 2005 north-south peace deal – saw an overwhelming vote in favor of secession.
In a phone interview with Sudan tribune from Malakal, Duot said people who were displaced from Patai, Door, Koruac and Kolnyang are living in Canal and Khorfulus at schools in abysmal hunger.
He also said the food he received will not be enough to the current displaced population and that his office has asked WFP for more food. He said the UN have agreed to increase of food but it is not known when it will arrive.
The state government through the health ministry is also due to give medical supports to Pigi to help combat the health of children in the area.

It’s a shame when we reliy on White man to come and help us or feed us while we have our resources that could feed all of us as a nation.i really don’t know when are we going to walk up from relying on help from outsiders? look at that picture of three men two black men and one white man…Do you know where is this white man came from? how far did he came from? how much risk did he put his life to. to come and help poor inecounce childrent, women and helder? just because some stupid guy fail to achieve his personal interest in governership. it’s really ashame when someone have to come and recure us from killing each other like animals because we couldn’t understand each other we couldn’t agree. South Sudan is a bless land with a lots of resource but where is a smpathy to forgive each other so we could buil our country and lives like human being. Governor Kuol Mangang Juuk is stand next to white man like he doesn’t know what couse all of these trouble in his sector of leadership? you should be ashame or think about what to do to bring that inresponsible ,selfish,greede Athor Dot back to the right direction so there will be no more straving like that again. But the way i see Governor Juuk really don’t care since …WFP… is there or white man will risk his life or her life to come feed them again. Dinkas will never stop begging, in fact they are The South Sudan international beggars, they enjoy living in the refugee camps all over the world and they don’t want to work for themselves but relay on relief aids. The day WFP will stop working, they will be the first people to die of hunger.
We need ready made food and ready built houses as if we are …the only solution to fight hunger is cultivate for ourselves and sell the surplus, we have fertile soil but many lazy and hungry people all over.

You are too silly. I know that your statement was triggered by the chronic hatred on the Dinka people simply because of the fact that your girls are adamant on seeking Dinka men to marry them. However, your absurdity can not be left unchallenged. First of all, try to acquaint yourself with when UN was formed and the reasons for its formation,then you will find what people does UN aids targets before you term Dinkas as beggers. Secondly, WFP and the entire UN Organizations shall not stop delivering services to the needy ones unless human crisis ends in the world, that is just a recipe for your own knowledge. Thirdly, the Dinka did not just emerged after formation of UN and therefore,the Dinka reliance on UN is not justifiable. Forthly, Dinkas are agro-pastralist and it is very difficult to find poverty that sends people to beg among such communities wherever you go. Finally, Dinka has never, is not and will not be poor enough compared to you even if poverty exists in all communities.

alas Kuol Manyang. is it stupidity or cowardice to Jang Man called Kuol Manyang to be rather concerned of urging a relief aid to the people of George Athor whose strong allegiance bestowed in George Athor and the cause of their displacement is such consequence instead to be concerned of people of fangak who were/are staunch supporters to the SPLM/A and who were massacred by Athor due to their loyalty to him Kuol Manyang and the likes of the SPLM. is it dinakism or a means of persuading Athor so that athor wouldn’t storm bor? now the marauding lion Athor will be opened its bor way by all means so that kuol manyang is to be given a taste of his medicine and he has to make sure that the innocently loyal people of fangak will forthwith pronounce kuol illigimate once and for all. if kuol beleives in his big red eyed staring methods before but he will now wrestle with mr. athor in his bor residential area without underwaer and let us see who will die first.
