SPLM vows to form national government in South Kordofan State

April 23, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The deputy governor of South Kordodan State, Abdul Aziz Adam Al-Hilu, has announced he will form a coalition government should he win the state’s gubernatorial elections for which he is running on the ticket of the North Sudan branch of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).

Legislative and gubernatorial elections in Sudan’s central state of South Kordofan, which lie on the fault line between the north and the soon-to-be independent state of South Sudan, are due to be held on May 2 after they were postponed from April 2010 when the country held countrywide elections.

The polls, which were delayed due to disagreements resulting from the 2008 census and delimitation of geographic constituencies, is expected to witness a fierce competition for the state governor office between Al-Hilu and Ahmad Harun, the incumbent candidate of North Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP), who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of war crimes allegedly committed in the country’s western region of Darfur.

In a packed public rally in Killik and Korongo areas in the state, Al-Hilu exhorted citizens to vote for him in order to “put an end to the state’s woes.”

Al-Hilu, who appears to have managed to secure the backing of other opposition parties for his candidacy against Ahmad Harun, declared that he would form a government of national unity if he wins the elections.

Meanwhile, the secretary-general of the SPLM’s northern sector, Yasir Arman, who was present at the rally, warned citizens against voting for Harun, asking “how could a man sought for crimes solve the state’s problems?”

Arman said that voting for Harun would be considered a “crime” because he would turn the state into a zone of war, citing allegations of a buildup in the state by paramilitary forces loyal to Harun.

Last week the paramilitary Popular Defense Forces (PDF) attacked El-Feid village in South Korodfan’s Nuba Mountain area, killing 17 people and burning a number of houses. The SPLM accused Harun of mobilizing the PDF with the intent of scuttling elections in the state.

The Washington-based Sudan Human Rights Network (SHRN) on Wednesday issued a statement in which it documented and condemned the attack, which it said was carried out by the PDF at the behest of the NCP.

SHRN urged activists to increase pressure on the Sudanese government to disarm all paramilitary forces.

Al-Hilu will not win, because he is running under SPLM ticket. He will not also win because he represents the SPLM failure to solve the Nuba Mountains marginalization. SPLA/M betrayed Nuba warriors and has done nothing for them. He will not win because SPLM/SPLA is holding Telephone Coco as a hostage based on the conspiracy made by Al-Hilu. He will not win because foreigners launched his campaign (Garang’s Widow and Mr. Silent Iga).

Above all, he will not win because Yasir Arman who is supporting him is seen as a traitor and anti-Islam in the North. Al-Hilu himself is an enemy of Islam – How can Muslims elect him?.

He will not get a single vote from the Arabs and Messeriyah. All African votes may be divided between Harun (who did well in development) and Telephone (who is a patriot striving for the cause of the Nuba Mountains). All opposition parties are weak there. They have no grass root level support. Even the Communist Party is nothing is South Kurdofan or in all Sudan.

Let the SPLM shut up and leave the North for Northerners, if they don’t want to see more hell in the South.

Ha ha .. can Al-Hilu campaign among Messeriyah and tell them that Abyei is a North land?

    Down with the stupid SPLA/SPLM

I think people suppose not to worry about who will win the election in south Kodofan State, it is precise that Abdul Aziz will win and Ahmed Hurn has to be taken to ICC and I hope a good stay for him in wonderful rooms of ICC and that will be very soon for sure.

Abdul Aziz Hilu wins this gubernatorial Seat because he is the Right man who knows the Problem facing People of Kordofan State.SPLM/A did not betray and will not betray Nubian and Misseriaya. All Tribde serves respect, now Harun is awaiting a rest warrant by Ocampo court.
If they are taken together with Bashir, Should State is left to whom? Common sense applies in common places. Abyei issue will settled by Hilu under SPLM.

If they votes don’t have decisive choice on the Leaders, Vote for Peace and not for War….South Sudan will remain loyal to Nubian to achieves popular consultation and not just a mere Slogan of Peace under pressure of PDF militias of Harrun under umbrella of NCP. Never Harrun back to the Office, He should just go to Ocampo after Criminal Kenyans who murdered theirs own citizen due to greed over Election results.

Ocampo should tighten Security for Sudanese Criminal Like Bashir and Athor, Harrun, Tanganyang, Gatdat for serious war crime and Genocide.
Peace for South Sudanese and Contested Areas. God Bless them………
Nyandeng Garang and Wani Igga are true figures in the Sudan History and not foreigners as you guys thinks.
