Sudan army bomb two villages in Jebel Marra- rebels
April 27, 2011 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese military planes bombed two villages in southern west Jebel Marra , on Wednesday destroying drinking water well, a rebel spokesperson said Wednesday.
“The helicopter gunships bombed the villages of Forlanpang and Tabon-Elfagair in Jebel Marra, South Darfur,” the spokesperson of the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) Nimir Abdel Rahman told Sudan Tribune.
Nimir said the attack destroyed the water wells and trees in the area.
The rebel official pointed out the attack occurred just before the arrival of humanitarian assistance that the UNAMID planned to deliver to the civilians in the two villages.
Ibrahim Gambari, UNAMID chief met with Abdel Wahid Al-Nur, leader of a Sudan Liberation Movement group in the Ugandan capital Kampala on 22 March. The two parties agreed to cooperate in issue related to protection of civilians and humanitarian aid.
Sudanese officials in the three states of Darfur accuse regularly the peacekeeping mission of supporting the rebel groups.
