Darfurians continue to protest against Sudanese government
April 28, 2011 (KHARTOUM) — Thousands of Darfurians protested on Thursday in three towns against the Sudanese government accused of perpetrating war crimes in the restive region since 2003.
Supporters of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) led by Abdel Wahid Al-Nur oganised a series of demonstrations recently in different Sudanese towns calling to overthrow the national government of the ruling National Congress Party in Khartoum.
Thursday’s protests took place in Zalingei located in the eastern part of West Darfur state, the capital of South Darfur state Nyala and El-Fasher capital of North Darfur state.
The demonstrators chanted slogans for regime change in Sudan denouncing the government of President Bashir for its responsibility in Darfur war crimes, and the deterioration of economic conditions in the country.
They also called on the international community to protect the civilians in the troubled region saying they also deserve a no-fly-zone like the Libyans.
Protesters from Hissahissa IPDs camp told Sudan Tribune that security forces arrested nine people in Zalingei all of them are residents of their camp. In El-Fasher the protesters said 36 of them are detained; while in Nyala they said 28 people are in custody.
According to the organisers the protests gathered over twenty thousand people in Zalingei, some fifteen thousands in Nyala and over six thousands in El-Fasher.
The internally displaced persons, students and other social sectors took part in the protests.
