Two killed and 14 injured in Juba-Bor road accident

April 28, 2011 (BOR) – At least two people are confirmed dead and 14 others injured in a road accident that occurred on 27 April on the Juba- Bor road at Diar village, Gemeza payam [district], Terekeka county, Central Equatoria state.

An open commercial Land Cruiser is said to have been loaded in Juba with 24 people in the morning of 27 April and left for Bor where it capsized at Diar.

The injured passengers were taken to Bor civil hospital for medical care. Some accused their driver of riskless driving, saying they had warned the driver to drive carefully. In South Sudan where roads are poor, the speed limit is 60 km per hour.

Among the wounded passengers, Ngor Kuany and Mary Achol have serious injuries.

According to eye witnesses, Ngor Kuany regained consciousness after his death was announced by doctors in Bor civil hospital on 28 April.

Mary Achol, 29, who was unable to talk, is expected to have rib fractures and internal injury of some organs according to the X-ray test results on 28 April.

In a similar development, an accident involving a motorbike and car occurred in Juba on the same day at the Western Union main branch, where one person was reported dead.
