Sudan would provide a model for solution of conflicts in Africa: Al-Beshir

KHARTOUM, May 25, 2004 (SUNA) – Sudanese president Gen. Omer Al-Beshir returned home from Addis Ababa Tuesday, after leading Sudan’s delegation to the summit meeting of the African Peace and Security Council.

Meanwhile, Al-Beshir affirmed that peace in Sudan has become a reality.

Addressing the summit meeting of the African Peace and Security Council in Addis Ababa Tuesday, he pointed out that Sudan would provide a model for solution of conflicts in Africa.

President Al-Beshir said peace in Sudan would have positive effects on neighbouring countries and all African countries.

He added that positive developments occurred in the situations in Darfur after signing N’djamena agreement, to which the African Union contributed in cooperation with Chad.

Al-Beshir reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the delivery of humanitarian aid to the affected people before the rainy season, referring to the visit paid by the mission of the African Union to the three states of Darfur.

Sudanese president added that the establishment of the African Peace and Security Council affirms the will of the leaders and peoples of the African countries to handle their issues by themselves.

He said the summit meeting on the Day of Africa symbolizes the unity of the peoples of the continent and their determination to end conflicts that had hampered the capabilities of the peoples in realizing development.
