Lakes state imposes dawn to dusk curfew to stop violence

By Manyang Mayom

May 4, 2011 (RUMBEK) – The government of Lakes state has declared an 11 hour nightlycurfew within Rumbek Central County after inter-communal clashes killed 10 civilians and one policeman last month.

Lakes state’s acting governor Daniel Ayual Makoi, in written statement – circular No.1/2011 – affirmed that from 7pm to 6am no unauthorized person will be allowed to be on the street until further notice.

The document did not make it clear how many days are set for curfew.

The deputy governor, who also served in Lakes state government as minister of education, said that the reason of having imposed curfew is due to inter-communal fight between five counties of Lakes state. The counties that involved in fighting are Rumbek North against Cueibet, and Cueibet against Rumbek Central County, as well as internal fighting within Rumbek East County.

Ayual justified his decision by saying that people were hunting down others to take revenge for previous clashes.

He also warned people who are alleged to have been hiding those suspected of killing innocent people in the clashes across the five counties of Lakes state.

“I warned those officials and civilians who are involved in hiding suspected people in their houses to surrender such most wanted man by all main to government security agency”, he said.

The state government has instructed all security organs to patrol at night to enforce the curfew. Ayual urged the public to cooperate with the forces patrolling the night time curfew.

I think curfew is not enough for the people of Lakes State.Disarment is what i recommanded for them.

The causetive are the people of Rumbek North & Rumbek Centre Counties. They killed alot of people from Cueibet & raided 9000 herd of cattle. The same time, they killed 5 women from the cattle camp under Cueibet county at night and state g,vt failed to take an action for this killing.

Shame on Lakes state g,vt & Agar community for killing their own brothers.

    Rubin,

Not a very intelligent way to avoid answering my question!

But I will answer your question! No I am not mourning and that does not affect me or concern me in any way.You are a victim of propoganda and useless news and events.

I am not sniffing around , but I wonder why you are accusing us for whatever happens in the south. You have your own country , just leave us alone!is that too much!
