Ref: INDEPENDENCE OF SOUTH SUDAN AND THE 9TH JULY CELEBRATION
Your Excellencies,
We, the undersigned concern citizens of the new Republic of South Sudan would like to appeal to all of you for unity, exercise of self-control, join of your efforts and work hand-in-hand to accomplish our national independence on the 9th of July 2011- by accomplishing the above-mentioned objectives, the history of South Sudan will remember you forever. However, any failure to act and meet the aspiration of the people will never be forgotten and no doubt goes down the history. Therefore, we would like to draw your attention to the followings:
? Our people voted with an overwhelming majority of 98% for independence which was acknowledged and witnessed by the international community. They expect a smooth transition to the new state and the realisation of their independence from the Northern Sudanese hegemony;
? Our Council of Ministers marked the period from 1820-2011 as the official periods during which South Sudan fought for freedom, against slavery and colonisation by the old colonial masters as well as the domination and exploitation by the new masters of repressive regimes in Khartoum-thus acknowledging our 191 years of noble struggle; Therefore our people expect a closure of this painful history once and for all;
? Our people are suffering due to the prevailing insecurity and their hopes and aspirations are all squarely pinned on our new state thus it is incumbent on you our political leaders to deliver to the masses of our people what they want;
? Our people in Abyei are facing an unprecedented onslaught and provocation aimed at destroying that much beloved part of our country. Their hope are at your hands;
? Our people voted for the first time in their history to choose their president. His Excellency Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit was chosen by the overwhelming majority of our people therefore, it is the national duty of our leaders to ensure that our President is supported unconditionally to duly carry out his duties, completes his term and navigates us out from the past. In addition, it is the responsibility of all political parties to respect the will of our people;
? Our people, foreign friends and all the Diaspora do not see any evidence that the entire leadership of South Sudan are focusing, energetically working or preparing for the forthcoming independence. Our people are realising that the leaders are concentrating on the constitutional squabble and political power games while turning blind eyes to the fast approaching independence celebrations. Nevertheless, if the current situation continues in such a way, our people will never forgive those who failed to show our best face and a new state to the World and;
? The entire world and our region are closely watching the GoSS and South Sudan political parties leaders for any sign of unity and work towards common purposes as South Sudan approaches its independence;
Notwithstanding, having laid out the underlying driving forces which led us to write this appeal, we would like to conclude by appealing to all of you to:
1. Place the independence of South Sudan and the interest of our people above all;
2. Work for smooth transition to our new state by supporting our President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Vice-President Riak Machar and the entire GoSS to consolidate and foster our viable state the Republic of South Sudan;
3. Arrive at national political consensus over all issues and move swiftly to adopt them without any further delays;
4. Start mobilising and focusing the minds of our people, the region and the entire World on the forthcoming independence of South Sudan;
5. Move forward and work together in energising the forthcoming celebration by inviting all the World leaders to celebrate the birth of our nation and to prove to the entire world that the Republic of South Sudan is capable and will not be another failure African state;
6. All armed groups must put first the interest and the stability of the nation and seek peaceful ways to end the war because the security is their responsibility too;
7. Make everlasting peace by offering unconditional amnesty to all the armed opposition groups; thus offering them the last chance to be part of the independence of the nation;
8. Appeal to our church leaders to work relentlessly to achieving peace and national unity among our people and our political leaders and;
9. Put your collective efforts together to help solving the remaining outstanding issues of the CPA such as Abyei, South-North border, the future of oil pipelines, the citizenship etc.
Dear leaders, lastly we wish to reiterate our commitments that the signatories of this letter fully support the current government under the leadership of Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, believe in democracy, multi-parties state and support leaders who dedicate their work to ensuring that our people live together.
Your swift and unconditional action on the underlying reasons which led us to write this call would be much valued and appreciated not only by the Diasporas and all citizens of South Sudan but also by the international community and our friends who support peace lovers.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,

Southern Sudanese Diaspora call for national unity
Dear Southern Sudanese Diaspora,
I was impressed with your call to the GoSS.
I was also impressed with the number of people who signed for this call.
However I don’t understand whether it was only for Southern Sudanese Diaspora in Europe. It appears Southern Sudanese Diaspora are not all covered for this call.
I am concerned that for such call to me which is really a democratic expression should cover all of us who are currently living in exile.
I am putting forward an expression of interest to join your team as Southern Sudanese Diaspora living in Perth Western Australia.
Thank you for the good job.
