SPLM & NCP claim win in South Kordofan gubernatorial elections

May 7, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The ruling National Congress Party (NCP) and the Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) both preempted the announcement of election results in South Kordofan saying their candidates for governor have won.

The state’s incumbent governor Ahmed Haroun, representing the NCP in control of the north, is running against his deputy Abdel-Aziz Al-Hilu who is a leading figure in the SPLM which is the dominant party in South Sudan.

Haroun is known internationally as he is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes he allegedly committed in Darfur.

Even though the South will become an independent state officially in July, the SPLM says it will retain a presence in the North through its Northern sector.

Southern Kordofan, the site of oilfields and important civil war battlegrounds on the undefined north-south border, is key to Khartoum because its neighbours Darfur and the disputed oil-producing border region of Abyei border, another possible flashpoint between both sides in the build-up to the South’s secession.

The vote in South Kordofan, which was delayed from a year ago over a census disagreement, was largely peaceful but analysts fear an outbreak of violence when results are announced.

Yesterday the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera news channel said that figures it obtained show a lead for the SPLM candidate by 14,000 votes.

But the deputy NCP chairman in South Kordofan Mohi Al-Toum Hamed said in press statements that any accurate count will show a big win for the Northern based NCP. He alleged that the SPLM wants to prepare the ground for not recognising the outcome of the polls.

An SPLM senior figure however dismissed the NCP claims.

“I cannot speculate on the results which are being counted. I cannot tell you who would win these elections but, it is clear from preliminary results that comrade Abdel-Aziz Adam Al-Hilu will eventually lead the results”, said James Wani Igga, speaker of South Sudan Legislative Assembly, in an interview with Sudan Tribune from Juba.

Igga said he is self-assured that his comrade will win if the elections commission concludes the counting without succumbing to military and political pressures.

The elections commission is scheduled to release preliminary results on Sunday and transmit it to the headquarters for certification in mid-May. There is a two weeks appeal window afterwards for those willing to challenge the results.

But the top election official in South Kordofan, Adam Abdeen, told Sudan Tribune that the process of matching votes to registered voters is proceeding slowly and said there are proposals of forming additional committees to speed up the process.

The authorities in South Kordofan urged the residents to accept the results irrespective of the winner and announced a set of measures include a ban on using weapons and staffing rallies during the count and up to announcing results.

Nasir Kuku, a native of Nuba Mountains from Kadugli told Sudan Tribune in a separate interview that the NCP faced its toughest challenge since elections campaign began.

Kuku said candidates from both parties spent the last days of official campaign period explaining policies and programs while apologising for mistakes and perceived arrogance amid growing voter discontent over soaring mistrust and insecurity in the state

“There are immediate problems on everyone’s minds, like the growing mistrust and insecurity in the state polarised by religious and political affiliations. They need a fair minded political leader to find way to address them as issues of priorities”.

“Our people need a party that will bring peace and development. They do not need a party that resorts to arming civilians to kill each other instead of bringing them together to address their differences”, he said declining to mention the party to which cast his vote.

Logically there’s no chance for someone like Mr.Harun to win the election and he just bombard those civilians last two weeks.Ahmed Harun is also being indicted for the war crime,so it’s hard to figure how he would win his governorship back and continue his deed the devil work.
    good luck to you Mr.

If they choose the criminal then it’s up to them and let them not cry if they are suffering from slavery. For us we voted wisely and we chose our destiny and we shall be enjoying our freedom soon as the first class citizens of our country.

Some of our brothers in South Kordofan don’t want to understand, though they are Muslims and black like us they thought that they Arabs, but they will suffer the consequence.

    Long live SPLM
    Long live Abdel Aziz
    Long live the Nuba Mountains
Long live the people of South Sudan

    Dear SudanTribune,

As a profession and fair media, you should be fair when publishing the news, you said
“Yesterday the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera news channel said that figures it obtained show a lead for the SPLM candidate by 14,000 votes.”
but you ignored the same source when also mentioned the lead of Haroun against his rival Al Hilo:http://aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/3005FF0C-0839-4BBD-9E4E-5CF2AE742EE2.htm?GoogleStatID=9

Is this something happened by coincident or by intention not publishing this news and only mentioning the lead of Al Hilo despite the second news by Al-Jazeera is the latest news! I doubt it is just coincident!

Thanks for Sudantribune for giving us the chance to express our opinions freely.

Mr. Nasir Kuku and others South Kordofan citizens.

I think you are absolutely right, the so call National Congress Party of killer Omar al Basir is the disaster party need to be avoid if all Nubian people are wise. Elected someone who have been accused for crimes committed like the NCP Candidate is more than being stupid people and I don’t think Nubian people want this happen.

We believe that, the only solution was to elected the SPLM Candidate and forgot about the party of indictment Omar al Bashir and his alikes governor wanted too. The Bashir’s party is the one that cause everything in Sudan from okay to badly as you will see later on, those refusal to accepted their guilty for war crime and crimes against humanity, they will be caught one by one I am very sure, although they are now showing arrogant thus, there is no place to hide in this world but to go hell. The news said, the SPLM’S Candidate was ahead by about 14000 votes and now the NCP want to repeated same thing they had done in Eastern Sudan and Darfur regions when we saw everything was fraud during April election. This time thing could worst if the NCP want to repeat same fraud which they have done in the past. But we are very hopeful that, the SPLM Candidate will win the South Kordofan government there is no difficult to understand the fact and most importantly, if the Southern Sudanese people have done it so why not you people of Nubia Kingdom.? If Southern Sudanese rejeced Khartoum ruler government what make you as a Nubian people to accepted those who belief in killing innocents people.

Nubian people Oyeee, SPLM Oyeee, SPLA Oyeee.

Sincerely the best solution is to eliminate the Arabs regime and continue with SPLM which is the ruling party in South.Arabs are Arabs and they will remain Arabs as they are,the people of South Sudan are not interesting in Arabs rules and regulations since the Christians need the freedom of Worship, freedom of movement and freedom of speech of which those are not been implemented in Khartoum/North.

    Ya Liberator and the likes,

Amon, don’t listen to this dude. This article which appeared on yesterday’s issue of Sudan Vision (SV) is just nonsense. SV is widely known here for its biased reporting; it’s a pro-NCP and will always remain so. It’s one of the propaganda tools designed by The National Criminal Party to give impression that the wanted criminal, Ahmed Harum is leading by 20,000 votes. The article does not reflect what is exactly happening on the ground.

AbdalAziz Adam Al-Hilu is leading by 14,000 votes. The other six polling centers are not yet accounted for. What we know is that other Messeriya who want to promote the culture of arming civilians to help commit genocide and massive displacements across South Kordufan have voted for Ahmed Harun. The likely winner is Abdalaziz Adam Al-Hilu who can bring the two politically and religiously polarized groups together to build peace and develop infrastructure that has never been there over the last fifty years.

I donnot know why Sudan Tribune insist to repeat the same thing, which is not true.Algazeera reported clearly that Ahmed Haroun is the winner according to most independent observers. They reported that the SPLA sources claim that they won the elections. Is ST interested in creating chaos and turmoil in thishottly contested elections?

Many Nubians feel betrayed by the SPLA and this was compounded by the unfair and illegal improsenment of General Telfon Kokou, other tribes will not vote for a candidate who is supported by a fregin country, particulary the meysseria who will never vote for the SPLA.

    Dear: readers

There are total 535 members of United States congress in the both the House of the representatives and the Senate.

    Here is the break down

    U.S House: 435 plus 6 non-voting members
U.S Senate: 100 members in which two members comes from each 50 states that make up the United States.

Now, you can not compare the United States with South Sudan.

United States has a population of more than three and thirty three million(333 million)

In other hand South Sudan has only more than 8.9 million people a population equivalent to that of U.S state of Michigan.

400 members in South Sudan parliament is just of way of drawing salaries from this poor nation which will bankrupt her in very short period of time.

There should be cut back in half or more and that is it. any number higher than 150 0r 200 is just shows the lack of commonsense and sheer incompetency on part of this stooge named John Luk Jock along with his master( Salva KIIR). They are mortgaging the next generation future.

Gat-witch (lie teller, hysteria boy etc) liberated, Choldit, Nyacebee etc..

SPLM/A is the only legitimate tool that will: rid the oppression by the merchants (Arab North), and deliver sustainable peace and prosperity to the long marginalized peoples of Southern Sudan, Abyei included and even beyond. The cluster of demagogues who have stationed themselves in Juba as political parties should not be allowed to sabotage or strangle our hard-won freedom courtesy of the who else the SPLM/A.

The self imposters (opposition parties) are nothing but mere demagogues, and should only be allowed to enter the scene when the Job is completed. Most of them are puppets of Umar Bashier and his NIF which is now National Criminal Party, the marginalized should pay no attention to their demagoguery. Pretending that they are more pro-democratic than the SPLM is as silly of a lie as the ground nature of which they created themselves as opposition political parties.

Those who deposit false allegations on the SPLM are part of these naïve weak hearts that have developed a culture of betrayal over the decades. That is, swishing to suitable side when the situation is tough and via versa. They have never had definable goal, their visions has always been their stomach. This is why they have become challenging obstacles currently in Juba; they are seeing Juba as a dinner table other than an establishment of a government (GoSS) that is fighting for a complete liberation of Southerners and the marginalized.

If these bunches were true democratic minded they would be challenging the GoSS on the flat-form of issues like security, health and infrastructure and many other issues that Juba government have perhaps pay less attention to within the interval of the interim period. Surprising, for the self-purported leaders of the opposition political parties, their main goal is power, power, and power, without anything else surrounding it. They are so preoccupied with obtaining power even to the extent that they are using proxy militia that is killing innocent Southerners to pressure the GoSS on their behave in order to advance their agenda of acquiring power in these grotesquery sequences.

SPLM and its military wing the SPLA are the tools for cracking these criminal merchants in Khartoum, who have killed and maimed the entire Sudan population over the decades in a very horrific clownish manner. GoSS should never accept to listen to any noise made by empty vessels that are getting cash from the Islamist in Khartoum. A real opposition party to the SPLM should be created in South Sudan by the South Sudanese after the declaration of independence of South Sudan this July. Period!
