Jonglei: Six people killed and one wounded in Ayod cattle rustling
By John Actually
May 17, 2011 (BOR) — at least six people were killed and one wounded in what appeared to be a new cattle rustling in Ayod South area, particularly Kuanydeng village in which a huge herds of cattle was confiscated.
Jonglei minister of law enforcement, Gabriel Duop Lam told Sudan Tribune that the attack took place on May 16, in the morning at Kuanydeng where the attackers managed taking un- estimated number of cattle.
According to Duop, the attackers killed three civilians and injured one police in the battle that left their (attackers) three people dead before they made away with cattle.
Duop said he has sent more police force in vehicles to run after them in attempt to retrieve the confiscated cattle.
The minister accused Murle tribesmen of been responsible for the attack, alleging his evident to the absence of one or two mid-lower teeth and some small body scars found on the dead bodies of the attackers.
Speaking to Sudan Tribune from Ayod County, Mr. Gatkier Dang, who works as the County coordinator said on phone that security forces are still on run after the rustlers, saying one body returns yet.
Murle-Nuer clashes over cattle rustling has intensified since last month after the Nuer Lou attacked Murle Kongkong and other villages in three days heavy fight that left over 400 people dead, over 14,000 herds of cattle looted and about 9,000 people displaced in Pibor County.
Jonglei state is the second largest state in South Sudan and most populated state in the region with the highest insecurity issues reported yearly that arise from within the major tribes, Murle, Dinka Bor and Nuer with child abduction and cattle raiding as the center of conflicts. The state has never been peaceful since the north-south peace deal was signed in Naivasha Kenya in 2005 that ended a two-decade civil war between north and south.

The killing which always happened in Jonglei state should be look in to because this time our people must to know that cattles are not only sources of live.
Take example in Murle land, it is known to it wildlife and the land is fertile and they can use it for survival.
In Nuer land, they have river nile with alot of fish and they can also use the fish to get what they want than going to kill and take the cattle by force.
Nuer are also God fearing people and religioues leaders in three communities can come togather and bring these peopl to the centre of peace.

Cattle rustling in Jongolei is as old as history and it has nothing to do with Dr Riek Machar.Calling death upon him or blaming him are equally uncalled for, there fore you need to first grow up.

Dear readers,
I think the government should pay attention to the matter of cattle rustling in the south. people should know that human being is more important than the domestic animal called cow. so, they have to work hard to acquire their own possessions not going out to steal other people’s properties and kill them if they opposed the robbers. also there is one thing I don’t like when commenting on the robbers, people point fingers on the whole tribe (e.g. Nuer, Dinka, and Murle) which is not true. I don’t think that the whole tribe shares in every attack to steal other people’s properties, but a gang of thieves (the minority) within that tribe. these gangs can be easily track down if people and the government cooperate togather to battle this unwanted act in south Sudan. there is nothing difficult for the people to solve, only what they don’t want to address may not be solved. the government must address this issue because it demeans our nation, and gives a portrait of undisciplined nation who don’t respect other people’s properties or human dignity.
God bless South Sudan
