Egyptian delegation arrives in Sudan for talks on ‘four freedoms’

May 21, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – An Egyptian delegation arrived in Khartoum today for talks on the ‘four freedoms’ agreement that was signed between the two countries in 2004 but has yet to be activated.

Sudan official news agency (SUNA) said that the delegation is headed by foreign minister’s assistant for Sudan’s affairs Mohamed Morsi and Al-Wakeel Hatim Bashat who was described as the official in charge of Sudan’s dossier.

Morsi said that his visit aims at following up on the implementation of the ‘four freedoms’ agreement particularly after the January revolution which ousted the regime of Egyptian president Mohamed Hosni Mubarak.

The accord signed between Mubarak and president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir grants Sudanese and Egyptians the freedom of movement, residence, ownership and work in either country.

However, the Egyptian authorities at the time were reluctant to let the agreement go into force for concern over an influx of Sudanese citizens.
