UNMIS IS DEEPLY CONCERNED BY THE VIOLENCE IN UNITY STATE
21 May, 2011
The United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) is deeply concerned by the heightened violence and the loss of life in Unity State, resulting from the fighting of the SPLA against militia groups, which has spread to parts of Warrap State.
Of regular concern are reports that civilians are being targeted, including by use of heavy caliber weapons and land-mines. Such actions constitute serious violations of basic human rights and international law.
UNMIS calls on all parties and groups to seek peaceful settlement of disputes and desist targeting
civilians.
