South Sudan apologizes to UN for attack on northern forces in Abyei

May 23, 2011 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s government has apologized for the attack on the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) on Thursday, May 19, in Abyei, which triggered the northern army’s capturing of the town on Saturday, May 21.

On Thursday the SAF accused the South Sudan army, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), for attacking its convoy which was withdrawing from Abyei in implementation of the Kadugli security agreement.

The SAF were being accompanied by the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) when they came under attack by the SPLA on Thursday.

On Sunday the incident was condemned by the visiting delegation from the UN Security Council in Khartoum.

“The members of the Security Council condemn the attack by Southern forces against a United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) convoy escorting Sudanese Armed Forces elements of Joint Integrated Units on May 19 in Abyei,” read a statement by Suzan Rice, the representative of the United States at the Security Council.

“The attack was not only a serious breach of agreements between the parties, but also a criminal act against a United Nations mission and its personnel,” the statement said.

UNMIS also condemned the attacks and said it was a criminal act against the UN. It called on the parties involved to investigate the incident and take appropriate action against the perpetrators of the attack.

However, in a press conference on Sunday in the Southern capital, Juba, the spokesman of the government Barnaba Marial Benjamin, on behalf of the government of South Sudan, apologised to UNMIS for Thursday’s incident in Abyei, saying it was not intentional.

Speaking to UN-run radio station Miraya FM, SPLA spokesman Philip Aguer also said that the incident was not intentional. He further explained that unidentified persons fired on the SAF convoy, adding that the matter would be investigated.

The SPLA spokesman during a joint briefing of foreign diplomats in Juba on Monday together with the minister of information said SAF forces have also advanced southwards and occupied by force a disputed territory called Kuek in northern Upper Nile state.

Reports also suggest that SAF has advanced southwards towards the Kiir river close to Warrap state on Monday and captured the main bridge close to the January 1, 1956 border left by the British between north and south Sudan.

Aguer accused the northern army of organizing a full scale war and warned that any further move by the northern army in an attempt to cross the North-South borders of 1956 will not be tolerated.

The UN Security Council on Sunday issued a statement also calling on the northern SAF to withdraw from Abyei after its military takeover on Saturday.

“The members of the Security Council call upon the government of Sudan to halt its military operation and to withdraw immediately from Abyei town and its environs,” the French ambassador to the United Nations, Gerard Araud, told a joint news conference in Khartoum with his Russian and US counterparts.

They also deplored the “unilateral” decision by president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir to dissolve the Abyei administrative council and called for its reinstatement “without delay”.

The UN Security Council members were expected to arrive in Juba from Khartoum on Monday and hold talks with senior South Sudan officials that evening.

Marial, the spokesmen of the South Sudan government, called on the SAF forces in Abyei to withdraw from the town. He denounced violence and said his government was seeking peaceful means to settle the dispute over Abyei.

Meanwhile citizens of Abyei residing in Juba organized a street protest on Monday shouting “Abyei is 100% belonging to South Sudan.”

In January the South voted by nearly 99% to separate from north Sudan in a referendum agreed as part of a 2005 peace deal. A special protocol of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement stipulated that residents of the disputed Abyei region would hold a simultaneous plebiscite to determine whether the region would join South Sudan or remain in South Kordofan state, north of the border.

However, Khartoum’s ruling National Congress Party and the SPLM, who govern the south could not agree on who was allowed to take part and the vote did not go ahead.

The Goss must know that Khartoum has declared the war and we do not want to be caught while a sleep. The SAF deployed it troops near to upper Nile, Warrap, and already take the Northern Side of Abyei. Please, we do not want to be caught while we already vote for separation, we already another country so we need to know that this aggression is very much a war and nothing more. Thanks

Children of Abyei are always dyeing as people who got no government to help them.

Better to take apology as a tools; shame on Dinka president.

Money and leadership may not much unless if you choose one of them.

    Dinka in the House:

South Sudan would never be better off with stupid Dinka in power. When General Tang Ginya was in the almost last part of integration process, an SPLA soldier fired the gun and that brought a heavy fight. Investigation revealed that, it was not through intention. While in the last days of CPA, the SPLA fired to UNIMIS and SAF heading north, and once more said unintentional. What is going on with these people having so many mistakes in a shorter interval? Also they have been claiming that corruption is unintentional. Lord has a mercy on them!

    George Bol,

Dinkas always claim that they are the one who fought the war. Time has come to them to go and fight and not to cray to other tribes to fight another war in order to give another mandate to the tribalistic and corrupted government of Kirr.

Government of Kirr that do not take thieves from his tribe to court and keeps thieves like General Titu Achil of police who was recently caught steeling millions of SDG and the former two minister of Finance who both comes from Dinka tribe.

My advise to my other fellow tribes is when you are taken to fight under army obligation/command you know who is your next enemy after arabs else let your bullet do not differentiate between dinkas and arabs.

Because the type of the governemet in Juba is no different from the one of jallaba in Khartoum and coupled with corruption under protection of the triblistic, dull corrupted president Kirr.

This is exactly the characteristics of a government headed by drunkard, thieves and opportunists. Why apologizing to your archenemy as if you had never known that war will comes to its peak. Hell this drunkard president whose for the daughters of his late age mate and comrades in the struggle.

Shame of corrupt SPLA officers, for you have led this nation to doomed because of your personal greeds, where on this planet can a general robs his own army that pushed him to higher notch and echelon in the army.

Thank you South Sudan government for admitting the truth and apologizing on behalf of the emotional sons of Abyei who attacked the withdrawing SAF convoy in Abyei. I knew you would not do such a miscalculated adventurous crime before July 9 independence.

The sons of Abyei miscalculated the incident and it has now worked in favor of Bashir. Khartoum thugs prefer violence process rather than peaceful legal process over Abyei issue. They tremble with fear when reading the Abyei protocol and The Hague ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) that specified and demarcated on map the territory of the nine Dinka Ngok chiefdoms of Abyei. But when that miscalculated incidence occurred, SAF exaggerated the matter and used it as a pretext to start a wide scale violence in the area in order to violently control it and drag the South or SPLA into the violence path Khartoum wants. This is a calculation to dilute the peaceful legal processes which it knows it will always lose to South Sudan or SPLM.

The South through legal processes would have squeezed harder the throat of Bashir and his belly until he vomits Abyei without a bullet shot, just like he with smiles allowed the South Sudan referendum to take place and accepted its outcome with a bullet shot. But if all the legal channels and international diplomacy finally fail after July 9, I would love to fight for Abyei after July 9 when we have already settled all my bills, secured recognition and get a certificate of statehood from the United Nations Security Council.

But hold it right there in Abyei SAF? Are you now trying to invade the South and encroach into our territory? Do you want to make a similar miscalculation like the sons of Abyei? The issue of South Sudan is a gone case. Referendum conducted. 98.5% voted for separation. You accepted the outcome. Your move would clearly be considered an invasion by foreign forces into South Sudan. Don’t force me to grab my AK47 and join the fight until I kick your butts out of the North-South borders of 1956.

Are you aware of the Ngundeng’s predicted final war of separation between North and South? Don’t even think about it because you will lose it despite your current airforce superiority. We can bring that thing, “the weapon that lightens the skies” or “mac mi riaw how” as predicted by Ngundeng. That war will be so bad that you will feel its direct pain for the first time inside Khartoum itself. So, don’t start it. Be warned!!!

We will capture all the disputed North-South border areas and control 98.5% of the South Sudan proper of Greater Upper Nile, Greater Bahr el Ghazal and Greater Equatoria region as stood on1956 borders and later get the remaining1.5% territory of South Sudan, which is Abyei after July 9.

The southern government should have apologised because the SAF have been attacking southern sudan many time as seen in Northern Bar el Gazhal and many areas in the South but they have not apologised for their brutal act …what i know is that the Northern Governement is just interested in War not because the SPLA attack their convoy ..but our SPLA of today is totally different the SPLA that used to be in the Bush when we were young right from 80s to 90s just because some individual who were brave have left the army and now is is mixed up of those who claimed to be the genuine soldiers when actually they are not ..if the SPLA was like the way its today ,it would have captured many town and brought us to freedom today ,however our leaders need to review the nature of our army for our safety and defend our country .

Without the Dinka ,i don’t think anyone will go to the round table in Kenya Naivaisha in 2005 ..even the Arabs themselves knows that without dinka they should waste their time to the talks ..those who are now Sudanese for the sake of war being ended have made our army weak …who can tell me that the dinka sons have never fought in their socalled Regions and died there … and i believe no son of anybody who went and fought the Arabs in Bhar el gazhal or Bor ….but the dinka aways fight in their home land ..in Joshep Lago was bought with an Arabs woman due to the naure of culture he has in him again the nuer malitias run to bush for food and looting ..when equatorian where given the chance to fight so that we see in torit …they run away and went to Zande land …and dinkas were left in the war ..

in Moroto the Achondok where many dies due to over thinking of the good food they used to eat made it for them to make a pull army …Dinkas were not forced to war as we see in may years example in 1987 every dinka was resquested to give a child to be trained and all were taken Ethiopia and many were trained there ..however the world knows don’t talk your nonsense about Dinka this time because we have people who are dual citizens in different countreis but they become southernes when there is time for food since the war has ended …if everyone was to fight in his region i think the dinka would have been the sucessful one other than fighting in the different angle of the south due to generosity …
    Thanks MR DINKA .

The Apology by the GOSS is a good first step, acknowledging the mistake and the party responsible is always the basis for a solution to the problem.

But the GOSS needs to not only apologize for the latest attack, but for involving the SPLA in Abeyi since september. The SAF left a few hundred of it soliders amongst 3000 Southern armed elements thinking the SPLA would play by the rules, even though the rules state they should be there in the first place. That was the NCP mistake.

The only way now to make sure this mistake doesnt happen again would be for the SAF to take control of Abeyi and to bring law and order under its watch until a solution is found.

Whenever the SPLM is ready to accept a peaceful and fair referendum for Abeyi with all concerned parties to abeyi taking part in that referendum, then a solution can be found.

Sudan accepted the secession of the whole of the south and so i dont see any reason to hold on to just Abeyi if they also vote for secession in a fair referendum.

The apology is too late, Those who lunch the first attack on SAF have betrayed the south and the people of Abyei who have all along insisted on peaceful resolution.

SPLA should take responsibility for the provocative actions and also apologize to the south Sudanese people and stop blaming the north. On the other hand, SPLM under John LUK’s chaired draft constitution committee went against sound popular opinion that Abyei is a disputed area and cannot be included as part of the south for now but disregard it totally. These incidences are the root causes of our current predicament which could have been averted. Those who have been calling south Sudanese names because of their objection should now go to liberate Abyei.

It is time the masses of the south be consulted on such vital issues before dragging us to war. Now we have to content with blockade and high food prices. I hope we can learn from this mistake to avert future crises

You are right to mention that, however, I would say let us wait even if they took Abyei. I think our goal is to get independence first and this aggressive which Khartoum government use will back fire on them. There were people in North Sudan that, they have had never experience the 21 years of the SPLA/SPLM Movement with Khartoum government but these coming years some North Sudanese will see and they will hear it something maybe will drop near them.

We can apologized to the U.N. and not the Khartoum government that, have been violent the peace agreement from the beginning when they started in Malakal Town. Their army units had made ambushed on the SPLA for many times not to mention the nine [9] girl which they killed in Rank during the referendum preparation in the last year.

The Southern Sudan of the SPLA need to be patience to get Southern Sudan independence and those who came by foot to capture Abyei District must be teach a good lesson so that, they will know Southern Sudanese are fearless. Southern Sudan will do everything possible to make sure the North Sudan’s government behave like human. There are many ways we can punish North Sudan for example, the River Nile that, flow to both North Sudan and Egypt. I do not have to tell everything but I am very sure that, North Sudanese will be suffering more than ours which we have face in two decades.

After independence of Southern Sudan, the Southern Sudan’s army will be free to do any aggressive they would like to do because they have been so silence partly of cours the peace agreement has let the bravers waiting so long. Again, let us be patient for this short period and SPLA will be lppking to see Kosti and White Nile State.

You are right brother. The army is demoralized because their monthly salaries and only source of income have been eaten by the fat generals in Bilpam, Juba.

The SPLA in the bush used to depend on food ration and loots or gifts from the civil population. But now that it is a government army of salaries, they have been forgotten by their own comrades during this time of eating.

And besides, their war machinery remains very poor compared to fire power of SAF.

    Pathetic.

You said sweet things in your first comment up there while down here you pour out sour comment.

Who told you that the Dinka fought the war alone? Most of the towns were captured by non-Dinka officers in all our regions. Many Dinka were in Pinyodo, Itang, Dimma, Kakuma and other places in East Africa, feeding on UN food to keep them loyal to the movement. So, where did you get that lie of yours from? The Nuer commander, Wang Chok was the one that fought around Juba and reached the Juba bridge while Bior Ajang feared to attack the airport. My friend I have all the records and can expose your lies without a sweat.

Now if I correctly say that without the Nuer vision of self-determination we would not get our independence now, would you deny it?

The Dinka elements of unionists among southerners would still be loitering in the bushes and refugee camps fighting for united Sudan if a Nuer son did not champion self-determination to referendum that has now brought independence.

Don’t be proud of staying in the refugee camps in big numbers pursuing with your empty mouths the so-called keeping Sudan united. You fought for wrong vision in those camps.

Mr trueteller i am not joking or lying the way you think ..indeed the Dinkas were in Ethiopia and the reasons being they were taken in 1987 peacefully and not forced by conscriptions as was legally done that each an everyone give a child to the army but the non dinkas didnot do that because they thought that taking children by the SPLA was a crime and dinka children can live without their mothers and bear suffering brothers but the rest can not do that …in Dinak land if the village chief failed to bring the number of children to the army ,then there is a fine given to those local leaders ..

About kakuma yeah its true they were there because of the rebelion that took place in Ethiopia of Weyana that forced them to kenya ..

about those who were in Uganda ,they were forced in their homes due to nyagateen of Riak Machaar in 1991 because many men were taken by Jok Reng to joined the army and later lootings of women came in …many town in southern sudan have many bones of Dinak son remained there and the socalled greater state now have never lost any body in Dinka land as God knows that ….the issue of itang or Panyundu did not come from anywhere but it was that policy of taking children to be trianed and on the way going to Ethiopia in I1987 the Murle was admiring to kidnap these chilren but they were escotted by the SPLA …so brother i am not kidding for the safe Arabs don’t bother about other tribes in sudan its only that they exist in southern but their way of thinking is totally not good ..
in Dinka land every house has to give a bull to the army are many sacks of milltet to the army .
i know few other tribes who have dual citizens fought in a samll extent ..
Again the resons why the Arabs used Nuer and some weak hearted tribes against dinkas like in 1991 and many years is that they know if the weaken dinka as a whole then they will succeed and that is a strategy they have been trying but it has failed .

if i go with you as Deng mentioned to khartoum the first one to be killed is a dinka followed by Nuer and last one would ber dor or Equatorain …

in kenya during the peace talks if anyone talk an arabs can never write anything down but any one from dinka talk they pay attention carefully and there is a reason ..

when i was young i used to hear that if the SPLA dies ,all the dinkas will be killed by the Arabs and it is true .

@ Alfredo who is marginalizing who in your context. Isn’t it ironical that the same Dinka who fought to liberate their masses are the same people marginalizing them? Then go back to review the reasons for the liberation struggle, because it seems you guys were just taken up by the euphoria of rebelling against the arabs without basis for doing so.

Those who understand the reasons for rebelling are the ones who have constantly advocated against the GOSS adopting the same policies applied on the Southerners by the Jallabas. But some of you guys have always defended this vices coz the ones doing so are your relatives.

For those who blame the Abyei sons for the attack on SAF which triggered this whole mess in Abyei, I must tell you that you got it all wrong. Let me ask you this; Is it Abyei sons who form the cronies of advisers to Kiir? Is the SPLA field commander in Abyei an Abyeinian? Don’t SPLA soldiers in Abyei receive orders from Bilpham?

Just cut that craft and stop defending your failed leaders in the Presidency and Bilpham. Do you really know what it feels like for the GOSS to mess up things in Abyei only to wake up the following day to apologize? Can apologies bring back the already lost lives of our fellow country men, women and children? Didn’t any of this illiterate SPLA come across the saying “LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP”? What a shame.

You know the truth is that all of you are just a bunch of empty heads. I think God forgot to fix the logic fiber in your brains, that’s why you guys are always caught on the off side position.

Lamija you made a point but you went wrong abit man ..how can dinka fight the SPLA when they are the SPLA ?? yeah the Dinkas were marganalised because of the policy preached by the Arabs to weaken the SPLA since Dinkas were the first target of the Arabs and followed by the rest of the tribes ..go and findout from any Arabs .most wars were fought along the boarders like Equatoria which is greater today and Tuba mountain and the rest and dinkas dies in all these even if God can raised them you can easilly see them ..even some countries don’t know how sudanese are like they thought when they see a dinka they thought they are the only sudanese despite we have many tribes that can never be distinguished from the rest ,in their of persceptions and many others ..

Now people need the positions of the president and defences ,and other governemntal post but its too late for them to get those post we know they can take us back to old days .

Wow, what happened today? You have changed your tone, are you trying to conceal your true alliance because you have been found out?

    You are still suspect…

GoSS have not admitted responsibility, they just apologized on behalf of RoSS as they are the highest authority in S. Sudan and rightly so, now they must find the culprits who are responsible for this irresponsible act which has displaced thousands of civilians and gave the North an excuse to loot.

Well done SPLM, diplomacy is the way forward in this unfair world (when you are not a superpower).

Please don not jump up and down. Just because Mr. Truthteller praised you for the comment about SPLA morale well, it doesn’t give a license to just go and keep lying.

Dinka were in the Bush so, to Nuer who first established Bilpham in 1975 eight years before the establisment of SPLA.

Nyuon Bany( a Nuer) fought many battles in Blue Nile and Greater Upper Nile with along side many Nuer battalions.

Current President Al- Bashir was wounded in Mayom county in the Unity state by forces commanded by then High Commander-Dr. Riek Machar in 1988(the first time ever that a Brigadier general was wounded in the battle) but, it was only done by Nuer forces.

In 1989 Nasir was captured by the forces entirely composed and commanded by Nuer and in doing so was captured a colonel(only the second time that a high ranking either captured or wounded by Nuer forces. And you can see that video on YouTube.

So, Nuer are the only one Jallaba feared!
That’s why ”Jallaba’ nicknamed their T-55 tanks as the ”Dinka husband” in other word whenever the Dinka face such tanks in the battle fields they run away.

And that’s why Abyei have fallen in the matter of hours because Jallaba knew that the savior of Abyei in 2008 was pissed of by some big bellies Generals at Bilpham and he is no longer in command of Northern Bar el gazel, thus, prompted SAF to invade and kicked out the SPLA with out any fight.

Nuer will be the one who will repulsed SAF out of the South.
But for that to happened, Kiir need to release Tanginya immediately and stop ordering other Nuer commanders to fight their own brothers.!!!!

    Ajok Garang,

Don’t be ignorant about dinka behavior. Mr Arop Tong is a dinga died in Khartoum in search for food, Kerbino a dinga break from SPLM and joined Khartoum government, George Athor is a dinka now in Khartoum, Abdel Bagi a dinka now in Khartoum, the list is endless.

If you go to Khartoum all street are filled with uncivilized dinka. Dinkas are the ones fillied in arab houses in Khartoum either as house boys, maids and even being exploited sexually. Don’t praise dinka just for sake of praising. During SPLM war Dinkas took refugee in Equatoria and specifically in Western Equatoria until they were forced by fight.

Now here in Juba dinkas are only filling restaurants only demanding “MOLAYI KOMBO”.What type of people is dinka? spiting all over tiled places.

For sure dinksa do not have difference between animals. They are most dangerous in Khartoum take e.g Abdel Deng Nyiali and the Dinka chiefs who were for unity before referundum.

My friend Dinkas better change their behavior otherwise world will all reject you. Where ever bad thing is done Dinka will be among it, in Australia, America, Cannada, Sudan, Kenya. Anywhere Dinkas are always associated with Evil.

In Khartoum most of the underground gays are Dinkas what are you talking about? The first bullet shot on arabs was in 1995 in Torit. When Dinkas were still in honey moon with arabs.

If it was not Joseph Lagu whom Garang was his solider where do you think Garang could start from? Don’t be stupid read history and find facts.

As we talk now some of the Abyei dinkas are busy with arabs in Khartoum playing this trick if you don’t know?

    Dear: General public and readers

SPLA have fought a long war using other countries and the Bush as sanctury. Using guerrilla tactics in the bush is all different than having to defend and hold a vast territory like South Sudan. and at the same time you the SPLA would be worry about civilians casualties in the cities.

So, comparing SPLA in the Bush with the SPLA of today is like comparing an apple and orange.
SPLA is in full control of the South Sudan territories albeit with other armed elements is not true to say that they are fully control it. but no Jallaba in South Sudan territories except Abyei which technically is located in the North until that issue is resolved one way or another.

That’s why it would have been wise for the SPLM(communist elites) to not divided the South Sudan by grabbing all the power. Now, how is it? it shows you can never run a country a single party you need all parties so, that we can unite as one. and SPLA should have not use the same tactics as they did on Tanginya forces of hit and run so as to cause chaotic situation. Now, those tactics have backfired on them isn’t it?

Well, it a shameful to all South Sudanese!!!!!

That thinking is the one letting south back. Why you people are not able to see the chaos happing in Kirr’s government? Don’t you think this is a punishment from God through Kirr’s egocentric, triblistic, corrupt government to the people of south Sudan?

How many times Kirr’s government has been humiliated by Khartoum? I want tell you my friend if you don’t know many houses bought in Khartoum within this period of CPA were bought by Dinka. Why don’t you ask yourselves about this corruption that is demoralizing every south Sudanese?

Now go to Khartoum the arabs you are talking about are more close to Dinka. Go to down towm, and in NCP party even in Turabs party. I tell you most dinkas are evil?

Nimeri used Abel Alier as a stooge to sign Adisababa Ageemrnt and Omer Bashier Used Abel Alier to rig April Elections.

Now another Dinka is being used to kill people in Abyei. I will tell you the name if you so wish!!

I think it has a very hard time and a very difficult dicision from the GOSS.It is a very courageous decision and should be applauded emmensly.

Unfortunately the GOSS was put in a very awkward postion by the enemies of peace. The GOSS didn’t approve or even know about this coward, attack untill it happend. It was a reckless and irresponsible gamble and a coward action excuted by the Abeyei’s sons millitia. They are responsible for spoiling the reputation and the honour of the senior professional millitary commanders who signed the Kadugli agreement
They are responsible for the suffering and misery of the people of Abeyei. They are responsible for spoiling the name of the GOSS itself infront all of the world. They are guilty not infront of the GOS, but mainly infront the GOSS and all hounerable and decent southerners.

Now, let us give peace a break.Let us give southerners a chance to celebrate their new state in a healthy and happy enviorment. We are not against their new state, we are happy for them. The borders could only remain as a line on paper. We could still and should remain as brothers and good neighbours.

Let us NOT to give the hate and war mongers from inside and particulary from outside the slimest chance to spoil our life, neighbourhood and brotherhood. They just want us to hate and kill each other to satisfy their own selfishness and unlimited greed and for the sake of their own benifit.

Abeyei problem is not complicated as we assume, if there is a good will to reach peace. It could easily be solved peacfully and amicably. The denka and miseeriya were living together for decades and will and should continue to do the same. The legacy and vision of Deng Majock should and will continue. They both will suffer from war as we all will do. There is no winner, even if you destroy your enemy. Let us use these limted resources for construction and not destruction.Ironically the money used in their name for destruction will never be used for construction in their name!

If peace is to prevail and it will and should prevail , we will ALL prevail

Dakin .i have just agree to say that all of us have to fight because now southern sudan is enjoyed by all people not Dinka anymore ….even the nuer who is uneducated have got thousand of stars arround his shoulders even when he is a chapati roller in southern Sudan ..
Look here don’t talk about nuer being the liberators but to all of us we know that nuer love food ,lootings cows ,and they love being slave in the region .check arround those who defected to NCP many years ago including the vice president of the day and from Nuer .go and see the unity state and you tell me about nuer being the fighters .

i have to tell you that nuer are used by the NCP to dismantle the moment but they have tried many times but failed .when you write on this website ,first trethink before you post any comment …

but in the 1975 did the nuer do any significans sucess without the Dinkas ? tell me about a nuer who has got any patriotic feelings toward Southern Sudan …but what i know is that nuer love position without practice ..

how many malitias are in the unity state and have been sponsered by the SAF ?. even Athor and the rest where supported by the nuer and they have been killled by Athor and yet they don’t learn anything …
Nuer are good spies and used by Bashiir as his groups .

Dont talk about nuer may be you talk about other people in southern sudan .
so now take your gun and go to Abyei because you are enjoying southern sudan more than a dinka ..

One time i was in Yei and i had a friend who was from nuer and was too young in 1999 and after the CPA i saw this boys having alot of stars as leut …and this boy used to sell cassva in yei market ,and that shows that the nuer loves being called general when they are not surpose to be …
yeah dinkas fought and brought you freedom and you have to pay back by joining the war in Ayei because the oil in Abyei is for all southern Sudan not for dinka as you think .

    Folks,

I don’t see a sense of blaming SPLA. GOSS, ROSS or whatever you may call it. Do we argue for the sake of argument or blame each because of the word “apology” that came out from the mouth of the “spokesman of the government Barnaba Marial Benjamin, on behalf of the government of South Sudan “apologized to UNMIS for Thursday’s incident in Abyei, saying it was not intentional.”

Why do we misinterpret the apology directed to UNMIS out of context? Who does not know that Khartoum has been and will still be keen on taking the country back to war before celebrating the hard-won independence of Southern Sudan? Time for forming investigation committee to establish identity of people who carried out Thursday’s attack on UNMIS was not observed by Khartoum whose intent has been when would southern elements fault to pave way for not only taking over Abyei militarily but also to unilaterally dissolve Abyei Administration within twenty-four hour to make its case. If the allegations made by Khartoum are true that Abyei Administration was part of the problem, did it inform or contact SPLM leadership about it in order to avert military confrontations? Khartoum was expecting something out of the blue to justify its long-awaited takeover of Abyei without notice as it did in May 2008. I have few questions to ask.

Did the attacks on UNMIS and the withdrawing 200 soldiers of Khartoum justify overreaction to capture Abyei by SAFs? When SAF attacked and set Abyei ablaze in the presence of UNMIS for reasons best known to them in May 2008 did SPLA overreact? Did SPLA make a mistake for failing to overreact? Why don’t we make proper analysis and see who was and is still really for peace and full implementation of CPA without pre-conditions to hold Abyei Referendum on time and who is not? Did SPLA fail to overreact because SAF used and backed up Messeriya to do the job on its behalf? What proves that it’s SPLA who carried out last Thursday attack on the SAF and the UNMIS? Is it because it happened in an SPLA-controlled area? When Messeriya attacked and set Abyei ablaze, did they penetrate through SAF-controlled area or not? A week before the last Thursday incident, why did Khartoum tried to send soldiers intentionally on Land Cruiser mounted with machine gun and to refuse being asked why they are entering such a check point where its soldiers were killed and Land Cruiser’s number plate was evidently shown on international media? Is it not a violation of security agreement?

Now Khartoum is saying that SAF would remain there until a new security agreement is reached by re-establishing joint forces and barring South Sudan police forces from entering the region once more. Another question is for how long would this continue if agreement could not be reached on how to conduct Abyei Referendum because of who should or should not vote? Why Khartoum is allowed to continue playing such dangerous game in front of regional body and international community with impunity? Do we need Khartoum to hold Abyei hostage because of disagreement over voting rights of the neglected nomadic Messeriya of Southern Kordofan since 1905?

The voting rights are for indigenous but not for the nomadic Messeriya of Southern Kordofan. However, Khartoum wants to take the country back to war because of the “enforced voting rights” of the nomadic citizens of South Kordofan. In essence, it’s not about the alleged voting rights but oil. Although two major oil fields are given to Khartoum during the verdict ruled by PCA in The Hague, Khartoum wants more because its economic future is absolutely bleak. The whole world knows this, you and I know this. All of us know that Abyei historically, geographically, ethnically and culturally belongs to South Sudan. I just end for now.

    BREAKING NEWS

Dr. Luka Piong had resigned, he offered his resignation to Salva Kirr , saying that he doesn’t want to serve under President Basheer!

But was this the real cause? He is going to serve under Basheer for only one month ; so there is no point in this resignatio! and there is no need for the hurry any way!He is going any way!

The real cause was the failure of their plot to drag both countries into a devastating war which nobody wants and nobody will win and all will be loosers; and for the humulation and embarassment which he and his gang caused to the GOSS and the SPLA.Why offering resignation to Salva? Basheer is still the president and he is in Khartoum not like Salva who is in Juba!

Such a plot would not go without sever repremandment from the GOSS.It is a nasty betryal to the leadership of the GOSS. I told you the Abeyei sons millitia had not burned Abeyei, but they burned themselves!

The good news is that Thambo Embiki had conveyed postive signs from Salva Kiir to amicably and friendly resolve the Abeyei’s problem.

This is another good reason for resignation for those who want war, particulary Abeyei sons millitia who want to spoil the happiness of southerners with their first day in their new peacful, prosporous friendly and brotherly new state.

    Peace will surely prevail.

I think the step taken by Dr Lika Biong is a respectable decision. How can Luka Biong be in a government that is bombing his own civilian?

The decision of SAF is more dangerous them what happened to them supposedly. How can you lunch an attach and occupy a town under pretext of being attached? Futher more the president dissolved the Abyei administration.

Let me tell you those people in Khartoum beating the drum of war need to be reminded that was has an ugly face. Wait during the last 21 years most if not all sons of innocent citizens have died but good that they were entering into kingdom of God (heaven).

It doesn’t matter now wheather the apology was to UNIMIS or to the SAF. There is no need for any investigation after this appology. We know and the GOSS knowes that the SPLA did not initiated the attack, but it was initited by the Abeyei sons millitia who staarted to fall now. The GOSS wouldn’t have appologized if they don’t know the real prepetrators!Unfortunately it will still be the responsibility of the GOSS. South Sudan apologizes to UN for attack on northern forces in Abyei
    Lmija,

SAF will withdraw if there are credible security measures which everyone will abide with untill the referundum or any amicable solution is reached! We donnot want any millitary solution to any problem and not only Abeyei!Abeyei should be solved in a way which should be convenient to both DINK and Messerya to enable them to live together as they used for decades if not centuries!

Let us be honest about it. Would you expect the SAF not to retaliate after killing his soldiers while in a convoy escorted by the UN..22 killed 176 not accounted for? Would you expect the millitary and army to keep quite.

I don’t agree with you that he resigned because of the reason he mentioned.Because there was simmillar more agressive incidenet while he was member of the government and he didn’t resign.After-all he has only one month left to remain as a minister! Why he offered his resignation to Salva and not to Basheer, because he is protesting against Salva and not against Basheer.

Why the GOSS is not saying a word, even Pagan is keeping quite.I can assure you that Salva and James Hoth are very angry from what was commited by Abeyei sons behind them. This is a very bad humulation to the CIC and president of the GOSS and the chief of staff of the army.To go and initiate a war for which they are not prepared behind their back is a big insult to their authority and disrespect to their postion and institutions!

Nobody in Khartoum is beating the drums of war. This is not true. They could retaliate when 11 soldiers were just few days killed in a simillar cowardly action. They didn’t, and they were “rewarded” for their patient with another more devastating and humulating attack while they were retreating 10 miles away to the north of Abeyei.Could this be acceptable. The megalomeniac thought being patient means being coward, they misscalculated their steps badly! This was not done by the SPLA or GOSS, because no respectful or responsible government or army will commit such a henious crime.

This crime was commited by Abeyei sons millitia, it is a crime not only against the SAF or government, it is a crime against the GOSS, SPLA and the people of south Sudan in the first place.

    Dear Writers
What vision do we have for our nation?
I’m really frustrated about your comments I wish God did not create me as a Southern Sudanese, We leave what can paves the way forward to a democratic Southern Sudan and we are telling nonsense, ridiculous and meaningless comments we are not here to be against each other, why are we as youths give those comments South Sudan was not fought by one tribe and we should not be proud of contribution made by each tribe, we fought all for all of us.

We as youths talking of corrupt government, who is hearing your comments obvious non.Talk on media such as sstv so that they can hear your comment.
If we are the one to change our country, stop segregation and forget of the past look the way forward for the future of our country and I hope we shall transformed this nation into better nation if we unite as youths. Remember if we don’t forgive each of offenses/sins we would have all perish because God would have kill us for the sins committed. Now we are the new generation of South Sudan let stop what our fathers did and unite here at the grass root .This nation belong to us as youths and they are about to leave, we should not follow their footsteps in some ways which may not unite us remember we are the pillar and if we fall there will be no more South Sudan.

My apologies as this comment is completely off topic.

With much sorrow I am forced to concede that Tribalism pervades the Southern Sudanese discourse. Even here on this board, which is ostensibly an opportunity for comment on the apology of the GoSS to the UN, I see an unhealthy digression in a manner that is ill advised and most unhelpful. There is no profit from it for our virgin nation and neither should it be in any way endulged.

“Between tribes there can only be war. And through war, the memory of war, and the potentiality of war, the relations between tribes are defined and expressed.” E.E. Evans-Pritchard

I steadfastly refuse to see a Dinka, a Nuer, an Azande or a Toposa. I see only Citizens, with hopes and dreams, aspirations and most importantly potential.

Take pride in your culture, but never let it undermine the future and prosperity of your nation. There is a larger world out there and it is often uncaring and unforgiving.
