Two Sudanese killed in clashes between Tunisian police and refugees

May 27, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – Ten African nationals, including two Sudanese citizens from the country’s western region of Darfur, were killed in clashes this week between Tunisian police and locals with the residents of a camp for refugees from Libya.

The widely-reported clashes, which occurred on Tuesday at the UN-managed Choucha camp located 7 km from Tunisia’s main border crossing with Libya at Ras Ajdi, claimed the lives of ten people from different African nationalities.

Speaking to Sudan Tribune from Choucha camp, Omar Babekir, a refugee from Darfur, recounted that the clashes started after the refugees staged a protest against the bad conditions under which they lived and demanded transfer from Tunisia.

According to Babekir, who said he had lived in Libya since 2003, the Tunisian police opened fire on the protesters, leading to the killing of ten refugees and injury of dozens.

He further claimed that the local residents who participated in the clashes used sticks and iron bars to beat the protesting refugees, adding that the Tunisians had grown fed-up of refugees and have demanded their departure from the country.

He explained that local Tunisian citizens thought that African refugees were mercenaries who participated in defending the beleaguered regime of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

The eyewitness said that the wounded refugees were currently at the city’s hospital but denied medical treatment. “The medical staff there were not giving them any treatment and ignoring them completely,” he said.

Babekir stated that their camp holds up to 5,000 refugees from Sudan, Eritrea and Nigeria among other African countries.

He said that all tents were burnt during the clashes and that they were living without shelter or food after the looting of relief stocks brought by the WFP, Islamic Relief and Red Cross to the area.

Ha ha ha, I thought Arab countries consider Sudanese Arabs. Come on Jalaby, Mohammed Ali, Sam Eto and moron northern claiming himself to be a Supporter of Naath cause, did you guys hear that Arabs even the ones in African don’t consider Sudanese Arabs? What a pity on those selling themselves cheaply while being rejected those they called their brothers? As long as you people have our dark skin color, you can always lie of what you are but you cannot always hide? That is what we have telling you guys you are not what you claim you are at least in the eyes of those you claimed to be you are for they know you are not what say you are. Well, accept what you are really are instead of sleep walking and bump your heads where on a dead end streets.

Wow, I didn’t know Mr. Mohammed Ali that Tunisians were donating food with refugees ? So the refugees ate the food but what did they do with the refugees donated to them? Again Mr. Mohammed Ali, it doesn’t mean if Darfurians rebel against your oppressive gangsters then it means Darfurians have bad manners and that too has nothing to do with real Arabs calling Sudanese Africans because regular Arabs don’t consider Sudanese but it is their politicians who call Sudanese arabs just for political sympathy.

    Marco,

I don’t care about you say about Arab or Tunsian? It is not true that Tunsian treat Sudanese with direspect. There are Sudanese who have no connection with Arabs, there some who mixed with Arabs and there pure Arabs. That is not a problem for me and it shouldn’t be your problem.I don’t know why you are preoccupied with this, it should make no difference to you.So what if they don’t consider me Arab? Why should bother you? think about!

Arabs had never came to the south as invaders or non-invaders. The did not annex to the oppresive north. They had never established a state in the south. No single National north Sudanese state had extended to the south . The Funj “Sennar” did not extend to the South , neither did Dafour kingdom or the Nubian Alodia “Soba” kingdom. You have been annexed to us by the white christians after isolating you from the normal human interaction which was existing through out Africa before the white man invasion and enslavement of Africa and considering it as their ” properties” Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, French Sudan, FrencH Congo, Belgian Congo and so forth… did here about Arab Kenya , Or Arab whatever. They Christianize with loyality to their country , while they themselves are hardly christians or believe in god or any religion. Each church belongs to a certain country, as if god could be divided!

Arabs did make the borders for us!

Mohamed Ali, Sam.Eto, Jallaby, Adam and the likes,

Please, remember that sharing religion doesn’t mean you’re Arabs. You’re Muslims unless you don’t know the real meaning of Arabs. Period. The so-called Sudanese Arabs get looked down upon wherever they go or work in whole of Middle East. They only claim to be Arabs when they come back home to Sudan.

The so-called Sudanese Arabs are well-known for shamelessly making such claim that they’re Arabs. When the a self-proclaimed Sudanese Arab are put together with an Arab from Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait or Saudi Arabia, you won’t bother to notice the difference but scratch your head quickly that there is certainly something wrong with the claim.
