Sudanese president to visit Malaysia next week: official

June 11, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese president Omer Hassan al-Bashir will travel to Kuala Lumpur next week to attend an economic summit, a Malaysian official said.

Kohilan Pillay, Malaysian deputy foreign minister, told Agence France Presse (AFP) that Bashir will be among the seven African leaders who will participate in the 9th Langkawi International Dialogue (LID) from June 19 to 21.

There was no official announcement of the visit from Khartoum.

The theme for LID 2011 is “Enhancing Smart Partnership for Socio-Economic Transformation”.

This year’s dialogue has been designed with the objective of expanding the existing social and economic network between Malaysia and the participating countries from Africa and the Caribbean.

Bashir’s presence will likely overshadow the conference given his status as the first head of state charged by the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Sudanese leader faces ten counts of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide he allegedly masterminded in Darfur. He is accused of targeting the African tribes in Sudan’s western region the namely Fur, Zaghawa and Masaalit.

About 300,000 people have died since conflict broke out in Darfur in 2003, when non-Arab rebels took up arms against the Arab-dominated government in Khartoum for a greater share of resources and power, according to UN figures.

Sudan’s government says 10,000 have been killed.

Theoretically all ICC member states are obligated to apprehend Bashir should he set foot on their territories though African nations including Kenya, Chad and Djibouti allowed him to visit despite being signatories to the Rome Statute.

Malaysia is not a state party to the court’s treaty but last March the cabinet decided that it will join the ICC. The next step is for the parliament to ratify the treaty for it to become a full member.

Bashir’s travel has been restricted as a result of the arrest warrant even to non-ICC members. In 2009 the Sudanese leader was forced to cancel his appearance at the last minute at a summit in Turkey following behind the scenes pressure from officials in Ankara.

Last year Libya also asked Bashir to stay away from the EU-Africa summit to avoid a mass walkout by European nations.

    Dear: readers

Omer Al-Bashir has a right to travel where he thinks is safe for him. And in this case Malaysia is one of them since is not signatory to Rome statue. More over, Omer Al-Bashir has a long history with this South Asia nation since, he has received some his Military training there in early seventies.

Because Asian had suffered the same way we under the white man enslavement, they understand very well when somebody stands tall with his head up against the greedy colonialist.

It is sad that some Africans are still addicted to licking the white-man shoes!

Bashir is a dead man walking. Sooner or later, he will be caught and handed to the ICC to answer some questions about the crime he committed in Darfur.

    Mohamed Ali,

Can you tell me the color of Asia with those you called white? The south Sudanese never been slave by anybody and that is something that you should take from today. The Turkey and British attempt their slave agenda but they were chase aways because they really get subsequence attacks every single night and day,and so they full out and went to the North Sudan that you always claming while you are a pure adapted slave from African decendent. We never lick anybody but we are working closely with those who have no oppressions as their way of depraving the owners from the resources. I are you not licking Asia by welcoming them to the Sudan and exchange the oil with the heavy weapons in the Sudan.

Who cares about where Beshir is going as long as he is not making any decision about South Sudan.
For Mohammed Ali, Ali cares a lot about how bad the white man is when he himself not free in Khartoum. Of course you’re free to say anything in Khartoum as long as it’s not something that is against the regime.

Do people in Khartoum free as Egyptians are to do what Egyptians did to their government? Of course not why? Because you could get kill instantly.

Mohammed Ali should first free himself from his own government before he talk of how bad the white man’s government is!!
