Western Equatoria: Former head of NCP joins SPLM

June 15, 2011 (YAMBIO) – Western Equatoria’s former chairperson of the North Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday joined South Sudan’s ruling Sudan’s Peoples Liberation Movement (SPLM).

Awad Kisanga, who is serving as the Western Equatoria state minister of parliament told an impromptu press conference held at the SPLM state secretariat that his decision, coming just 24 days before the south declares independence, was in the national interests of fellow southerners and Western Equatoria in particular

The move comes more than one month when Kisanga and other senior NCP figures quit and closed their offices in Western Equatoria.

Speaking during the occasion Kisanga, revealed that he has served in the NCP for 25 years and had “decided to join brothers and sisters in the south”.

South Sudan is scheduled to declare its independence on 9 July 2011.

“Since Southerners have voted for the total freedom this implies that we, the sons and daughters, are to join hands together for to serve this new nation to come and therefore, I have willingly joined the SPLM,” announced Kisanga.

Kisanga called on his former colleagues of NCP to join any party in South Sudan.
On 12 March 2011, South Sudan-based NCP members declared, in front of the leaders of NCP in Khartoum, that they were leaving the NCP and moving to the South to work towards building the new independent nation of South Sudan.

SPLM state secretary, Manase Doboi congratulated Awad Kisanga for what he termed as a “brave and positive decision,” adding that the “SPLM warmly welcomes their new member.”

Manase stressed that “the SPLM party has no segregation of who joins now and before.”

He said that the SPLM is for everybody working for the interest of the people of South Sudan and the marginalized people and that is why the SPLM is in both North and South Sudan.

The SPLM northern sector will remain as a party after the South secedes as it has a large following in Blue Nile and South Kordofan, where many joined the SPLM’s fight against Khartoum. In last year’s election SPLM candidate Malik Agar became the only non-NCP governor in north Sudan.

Kisanga’s wife, Gloria Philemon Baime applauded her husband for taking the decision of joining his brothers and sisters in SPLM party. She explained that she had been a member of the SPLM while her husband had been a member of the NCP, but that this had not been a source of conflict.

Baime served as a Member of Parliament in the appointed assembly before the 2010 elections.

    Dear Readers,

For some people, Kissanga is their hero and patriot, but for me at eleventh hour, he is opportunistic who change allegiance to search for a green pastures.

To all the commentators above, such mentality that you have will not help at all and will not bring unity in South Sudan, you pretended to be learned but your comments show how shallow your educations are.

How can we encourage our brothers who don’t have faith in us to come back and join us? Kisanga has not joined the SPLM to still your money, you are still the owner of all the wealth in the South and no one will take it from your greedy leaders soon.

WES is always leading in showing a good example of how we Southerners are suppose to live in peace and harmony, but some individuals like will never transform.

You don’t understand but what Kisanga did is a big blow to NCP, they are losing in the South. I hope you will come to your senses one day and understand the truth.

If that’s the case then we wouldn’t have welcomed back the likes of Dr.Machar who have much blood on his hands back in 2002. Kisanga has low profile in the history of Sudan and him joining the SPLM means that we have eradicated the roots of the NCP from the WES.

What I’m saying is this, forgive and forget so that we can live together, South Sudan is for all of Southerners and not just for those of who fought for it. If the likes of Kisanga come back to their senses and join us then lets forgive them so that the likes of Gadet and Ayii will come back too.

    Again forgive and forget

you cannot compare Dr. machar with this guy who spent most of his time killed Southern. let you know this Dr. Machar fought Arabs more than anybody in South Sudan especially Upper Nile, Blue Nile, Unity State and many other states. what about this guy and all Equatoian in general, who do what, please never compare the most important people that sold South Sudan out to Arabs like this guy and Abel Aleer to anyone in South Sudan. Dr. machar was strong commander of SPLM and you need to know who formed SPLM before you judge anyone.

We need to forgive them that they can come back to us, if we don’t then they will keep on disturbing our peace and unity.
You need to understand diplomacy and that’s why peace will never prevail in places like Lakes State and others because people don’t want to forgive each other.

We in WES love peace and living in harmony with one another and if you don’t please come and learn from us here, you will understand better.

I repeat, this man has low profile and he has less blood on his hands than your so called heroes of today.

This mentality that you have will make us move forward at all, you need to change and start reasoning like human being before July 9, otherwise, our South is going to be another hell on earth.
