Darfur rebels deter Sudanese army attempts to control Jebel Marra
June 18, 2011 (KHARTOUM) — Darfur rebels Saturday said they repelled attacks by the Sudanese army three times this week to control Western Jebel Marra in North Darfur state.
Sudanese troops targetted the positions held by the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) of Abdel Wahid Al-Nur who is not part of the Doha peace process and the other SLM faction of Minni Minnawi who rebelled again last year after signing the Abuja peace deal and joining the government in May 2006.
“The fighters of Darfur resistance groups, clashed on the road of Rokero – Golo in Jebel Marra on 15, 16 and 18 June with a mobile Sudanese force transported by 69 four-wheel drive vehicles,” said Younis Dayossek, a SLA-AW commander who was speaking by Satellite telephone.
Dayossek further told Sudan Tribune that combatants from the SLA Abdel-Wahid, Minni Miinnawi and Ali Karbino took part in the fight against the government troops.
The rebel commander said they seized military documents with the assailants “instructing them to take the control of Rokero,” one of the highest positions held by the SLA-AW in the mountainous Jebel Marra.
But “we forced them flee the area after today’s fighting in Altura, one of the villages on the read from Golo to Rokero. Also we destroyed 10 vehicles and captured other six with ammunitions and arms,” the rebel further said.
In April Abdel-Wahid Al-Nur and Minni Minnawi signed an alliance pact and pledged to work together against the government of President Omer Hassan Al-Bashir. Ali Karbino, former commander in chief of the Liberation and Justice (LJM) splinted from the group led by El-Tijani El-Sissi and coordinates on the ground with the two groups.
Sudan and LJM are expected to sign a peace agreement in coming weeks, however talks with the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) are stalled in Doha. The two parties diverge on the agendas of the direct discussions as Khartoum said it is only willing to discuss political participation in the central and state governments besides the integration of the rebel combatants.
In Khartoum, the government said today that the joint Sudan-Chad patrols arrested JEM rebels who tried to cross the border with supplies in the areas of Kulbus and Tina near the joint border and handed them over to the West Darfur authorities.

Kon Ajith,
Do you remember what jesus said that father forgive them since they don’t know what they doing? Jesus said this to his father when he was executed on the cross, he asked his father not funish people who executed him. This is the same to Darfurian, they did not know what was the cause of war between north and South and now they are fully aware of the khartoum, so they deserve help from us if we can brother.

I think Darfur rebel groups are getting the message right that Khartoum ostensibly negotiates peace while prepares for military offensive at the same time. Khartoum believes that freedom belongs to him only.
Khartoum has bad concept that peace can only be brought by the barrel of a gun. And if all the marginalized started speaking the same language of Khartoum, how long would it take to bring Khartoum down to its knees?

Dear Kon Ajith,
Darfur rebels must be assisted so that we do away with the Arabs in politic and we come and blame them later, may be most of the were not baptize in the name of liberation.
They are better than South Sudanese who fought along side the Arabs against SPLA who are now forgiven.
