Upper Nile governor pledges greater focus upon rural development

June 20, 2011 (JUBA) – Simon Kun Puoc, Governor of Upper Nile State said his government will focus on rural development, social amenities and development projects will continue to be pivots around which the “the SPLM [Sudan People’s Liberation Movement] vision of taking towns to remote villages” will revolve on South Sudan Television on Sunday.
“Developmental activities in the rural areas remain top agenda of my government […] Provision of clean water, schools, health facilities, protection of the environment, waste management, road construction, rural electrification, poverty reduction and job creation continue to be the pivots around which our governance agenda is revolving,” explained Puoc.
Puoc said the South Sudan’s governing, SPLM being a social democratic government, social interventions such agricultural subsidies for small-scale farmers, dedicating to persons with disabilities and poverty reduction continued to remain very important aspects of its programs.
The governor made the remarks in a statement broadcast live on South Sudan Television on Sunday, following a briefing to the minister of information of the Government of South Sudan, on developmental activities being executed in the state by his government.
He also commented that his government gives traditional leaders the due recognition in their communities to foster a positive working relationship and urged them to refrain from negative attitudes that could amount to abusing and despising traditional leaders.
“Real power does not belong to us; it belongs to the people and we dare not abuse the power they have reposed in us, lest they take away what legitimately belongs to them,” said Puoc.
South Sudan is due to become independent in July following a referendum earlier this year.

Such a things need to says during last year election and to be implemented, this time need to show what you have done from that period of time after the work done and tell us the next steps. Our south Sudanese leader like to says thing with no realty or action, no creativity skills but less knowledge from humanitarian and the former guerrilla while lacking developing skills; also consisted with corruption from top government down ward. The problem between Dinka and Shilluk need to be solved by someone like you long time ago because both of this two communities are valuing you those Nuer of Upper Nile State but if you don’t have that gift than no one would cleansing you on those stuff.

I know Mr. Governor Kon Pouc very well,he is a man without vision for his state or his people in Nasir ,he is here in Upper Nile,just to collect money for his childern and for his master Mr.Kiir to keep him in the power as a Governor,and to give loans to his family only,not all Nuer,if all money going to his family,where is the money for rural developement,and social amanities,he was talking about? I think Mr.Governor,his mind is running out,he supposes to keep silence,instead to say something to the public,he wants to cheat who with his statemant?all the people in Upper Nile knows him,he could not do anything,till he will get out from his seat.

Development can not be acheived by political propaganda but by action and honesty.Mr. Kun and his vice governor are spending nights in Upper Nile small hotals drunk of beers and dreaming that development should happen in that way as beers give them imaginations. I also wonder when Kun visit Juba he change his langauge than in Upper nile. Man Enough! We tired of you wrong leaders.

Dear Governor,
I can agree with the one who have said earlier that you better keep silent and avoid making you fool and liar in the eye of the public. how long have you been on power of governorship? we did not see a single school being renovated leave alone new construction, but we witnessed your new building and your son’s marriage in less than six months.we had budgeted roads right from 2010 – 2011 but all have been diverted to your pockets and none have been implemented. you compaign motto was peace, justice, security but ask yourself, how many times fighting broke out just next to your house?
my brotherly advice is please keep quiet and let those who know how to work talk of what they have done. you are the most failed governor among the elected governors and this show that we did not voted for you and you was only brought as a pocket hole to let our resources out.
