Bashir’s presence at S. Sudan independence ceremony problematic

June 22, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The possible presence of Sudanese president Omer Hassan al-Bashir at the independence ceremony of South Sudan is complicating the planning process for the event, a newspaper in Khartoum reported today.

This month South Sudan’s ruling party, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), announced that it invited Bashir for the day marking the official establishment of the new state.

The independent Al-Ahdath newspaper quoted unnamed sources as saying that some countries particularly in Europe have yet to name their representatives at the ceremony.

Western officials have mostly avoided meeting with Bashir since an arrest warrant was issued for him by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges that he masterminded war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide in Darfur.

There were even cases where leaders from Brazil and Argentina refused to be seen next to the Sudanese president.

Southern officials are keen on securing the maximum attendance by officials from U.S. and Europe, according to the sources and are therefore wary of the impact Bashir’s presence may have.

The sources said that U.S. Vice president Joe Biden and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon are among the officials expected to attend though this is not confirmed yet.

But the Washington Post said today that Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, was tentatively scheduled to attend the ceremony, though she may not make the trip because of safety concerns.

The newspaper also reported that former governor of Alaska and the 2008 Republican party candidate for Vice President Sarah Palin has cancelled her plans to be at the ceremony due to scheduling reasons.

Palin was planning to travel with Franklin Graham, the son of evangelical leader Billy Graham, as well as Fox News personality Greta Van Susteren. The latter also canceled her trip. Graham said on Wednesday that he still plans to go.

We don’t need his attendance, South Sudan is too precious to celebrate her independence with criminal like Al Bashir. Southerners should not think without Al Bashir we wouldnt have got independence. Thats totally wrong. He had no choice but to let us go or faced bitter death and defeat by combined SPLA and Darfur rebel forces.

We shouldnt act like little bitches trying to appease this retarded moron (Al Bashir)

What is realy eating up the brain of the Southern politicians? Although it is important to have Al- Bashir in the ceremony, it is equally important not to have him attend but rather delegate a representative like he has always done since his indictment to allow other important visitors to breath fresh air in Juba. Important guest can not withdraw their plans to attend because of Al Bashir whom we all know is a wanted criminal not to associate with.
If he is coming to endorse a doc, the it complicates the whole long awaited event because for sure I know he will not be there to give himself a life vest.
But I also think the ICC should consider the importance of having Bashir in this event by not trying to aprehand him during this season.

To my suggestion U.S,South American European,Canada and Australian leaders should have not decided not to attend the ceremony of the Southern sudan inauguration due the presence of Criminal Bashir, because if Bashir is to be for he will be the one to lowered his flag and Kiir’s to rise his flag if it just a matter of attendance then Bashir could have not be invited by South.

President Bashir is a wanted man anyway and his presence in South Sudan’s ceremony is not helping at all but remember it is colourful. His presence will signifies the split of Africa’s largest country into two in his eyes. So, Im hoping Bashir to attend the ceremony.

    Avoiding Bashir is necessary.

North Sudan should be represented by someone who has no crime friction with the international community because it will show Bashir he has been intentionally driving Sudan under the influence of darfuriphobia and junubinophobia.

HA HA HA HA HA HA

You guys dont get it – Bashir or no Bashir the South Sudan independence ceremony is going to be postponed or canceled. The paper in Khartoum did not say because of Bashir (that was made up by Sudantribune as usual). Its because your idiots in the SPLM can not organize a dance party let alone a celebrations like this. There is lack or organization, funding (probably stolen) and security. Pay close attention to what Clinton said – she wont make it because of security reasons – Juba is not safe. So the European wont make it. They are all worried about sleeping in some cheap motel and mosquitoes.

Quote me on this : SOUTH SUDAN INDEPENDENCE CEREMONY POSTPONED (look out for this heading in the SudanTribune very soon) – due to lack of security and organization.

GOSS should simply invite ICC chief and you will see Mr. Beshir will withdraw his invitation.

Inviting Beshir is like inviting a Satan to attend a Sabbath.

The main reasons for foreign invitees not to come to the South is not the presence of Al-Bashir. It is for security reasons and lack of infrastructure. If security situation is under control, most, if not all invitees would have confirmed their participation.

I think CIA meetings with President Silva Kiir early this week were so frank – that is why the message has been spread that “the security status” is unfavorable.

If pending issues (other than Abyei) are not resolved before July 8, 2011, President Al-Bashir will not attend too. Furthermore, if the situation escalates between the two rivals (NCP and SPLM) in the coming days, the North will not recognize the new state either. I don’t want to hear that the recognition of Khartoum is not important – it is whether we like it or not.

To hell with the invitation of Bashir! One would wounder as to why exactly he was invited for, just to come and dance and dining on top on the bones of whom he had murdered. God forbid! If he the murderer comes, he should be surrendered to Hague that must be an assurance from H.E Kiir and Riek, the leaders of this nation to be born.

Is it true that Bashir’s plane gonna get intercepted on his way to China? No, please, let him go and come back for the last time. Bashir still has a choice to make either to go to The Hague or heaven at his disposal.

How can a criminal attend a ceremony? People should not fear to attend the ceremony, the Goss is very keen on whatever the plan Jallaba doing in the North.Let his talk remain on oil issues which still nothing to the South.Do they think that we fought for money during 21 years?

We were fighting for the betterment of Southern Sudan to oppressive regime based in Khartoum and this is the same thing applied right now.The struggle will be continue as usual unless they stop their brutal activities starting from Abyei and Nuba Mountain.
