Body of veteran Lakes State politician returned to South Sudan
June 24, 2011 (JUBA) – The authorities in Lakes State on Friday received the remains veteran politicisn, Samuel Aru Bol, who was buried in Khartoum over ten years ago, as part of the celebration of South Sudan’s independence on 9 July.
His remains were transferred from his grave in Khartoum by his family in collaboration with government of Lakes State. His body arrived in Lakes State’s capital of Rumbek on Thursday after his family had taken it to Malakal in Upper Nile State and South Sudan’s capital Juba.
Aru died of diabetes on 18 November 18, 2000 in Khartoum.
Late Aru was born in Rumbek in 1929 and became a prominent politician in the area, which was the base of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) who fought against various Khartoum governments.
In 2005 the SPLA signed a peace deal with Khartoum, which enabled South Sudan to hold a referendum on independence. In January over 98 percent of southern Sudanese voted to separate from the North.
Speaking at Rumbek airport, Lakes State acting governor Daniel Ayual Makoi, told a crowd of people that the arrival of Aru’s remains was a cause for celebration not mourning.
Marial Awuow Yol, a minister of finance of the federal government in Khartoum who was involved in the organising committee to transfer the remains to Rumbek, said that he is over joyed to see Aru’s remains return to his birth place.
He described Aru as a “leader” and “somebody who considers ideas from others, is a thinker and should be considered as a model” for how to conduct politics at all levels of government.
The government of Lakes state plans to re-bury Aru in the coming days. In the meantime his task by remains are being kept at Rumbek hospital.
Aru had eight children, five girls and three boys.

This is waste of time,money,and anything for the people of Lake State, why he was buried in Khartoum in the first place. we need to find more information about Veteran because Late Dr.Garang is not here with us now, i think something suspiciously wrong with his veteran when Dr.Garang was here.

Pleased to hear that the remains of the late Uncle Samuel Aru Bol has been returned to Southern Sudan.
The article is good but further information should have been provided about late Samuel Aru as a way of enlightening the readers , so please allow me to comment as follow:
It is incorrect to say that Late Samuel Aru was a Lakes Politicians For he may had represented a lakes Constituency as an MP to the Regional Assembly in Juba but he was and remained a Southern Sudanese National leader . Late Samuel Aru Bol became the leader of Sudan African National Party (SANU) following the assignation of William Deng in 1965
Under the Addis Abba Agreement, late Samuel Aru occupied the position of the Minister of Regional Administration – which combined Internal Security and Local Government. His contribution there was rated a success. Under the government of change led by General Joseph Lagu , Sayed Samuel became the Vice President of the High Executive Council.
Late Samuel Aru was also the 1st Southern Sudanese Deputy Prime Minster in the old Sudan, following the overthrown of Nimeri regime in 1985.
So at all accounts late Samuel Aru was a Southern Nationalist and Lakes State is proud to have him and others of its citizen- to use the term loosely – who contributed to the struggle for the liberate of all our people -and our beloved Southern Sudan- from the Arab Colonial rule.
Late Samuel Aru, Late Hilary Lugali and Late Luwegi Aduk and others have made it possible for us to achieve the forthcoming declaration of independence on the 9th July
