Unity State cleans towns ahead of South Sudan independence

By Bonifacio Taban Kuich

June 24, 2011 (BENTIU) – Authorities in the South Sudan’s oil-rich Unity State, called upon all citizens to clean the main populated towns ahead of the region’s independence celebrations on 9 July.

South Sudan’s army (SPLA) and police lined the streets of – state capital – Bentui and Rubkotna yesterday to make sure that the town looks clean on independence day.

On Friday Bentui’s commissioner Mayang Teay told Sudan Tribune, that “we need to prepare ourselves through promoting self-hygiene and keeping the general environment very smooth in order to welcome the sovereignty of new nation South Sudan”.

Teay said that they had managed to clean the areas which were dirty in the town.

The state authorities have said that anyones with a dirty shop, or shop front as well as people caught throwing bottles or plastics bags in the market,
shall be charged with 150 Sudanese Pound. If they are unable to pay they will be sent to prison for some days during which they would be forced to clean the town.

South Sudan is due to become independent state on July 9, after the
an overwhelming vote for separation from the North in a referendum in January.

Good work Taban, after independant South Sudan must also need to be clean of garbage people for every bustard must trace back his route so that we enjoy peace at least. So you Mr. Lost Boy must resign immediately and ask the Red Cross to help him find his Arab relatives in Khartoum, Nhial Deng Nhial must do likewise and Juba must be left to its rightful owners.

It will be a farewell party!

This is too bad for us to clean our own home because of independence, what about all these year since we are getting 2% than other States. I was there in 2009, what i saw was place of no infrastructure, construction, and no anything called nation building at Unity State because who you know my brothers. SPLA leadership is taking Unit State people as mean of property.
