Jonglei governor praises South Sudan’s self-employed

By Philip Thon Aleu

June 28, 2011 (BOR) – Jonglei State governor Kuol Manyang Juuk said on Tuesday that he is impressed by self employed people in South Sudan rather looking scarce government jobs.

He praised people who tirelessly create jobs for themselves because “they are wise people who think about what to do to their country.”

Addressing a self-styled ‘Jonglei State Scout’ group, governor Kuol told the children that he is a poor governor because he leads poor people.

“People in Jonglei State and South Sudan as a whole, only think about what the government can do for them,” said governor Kuol. “But see the fishermen and farmers, they work to feed us,” he added.

Jonglei State Scout group, a collection of primary school pupils are being trained by Jonglei State Arts and Music Association to South Sudan’s new national in preparations for when the region become an independent republic on 9 July.

After an overwhelming vote for secession from the North in a referendum held as part of a 2005 peace deal that ended decades of North–South civil war.

In South Sudan, many people including university graduates are unemployed. The governor said that people should stop looking for government jobs and look for work in the private sector.

“The farmers, creative youth and children like these [scouts] are like our patriotic brothers and sisters who scarified their lives for our freedom,” governor Kuol said. “You don’t think about what the state government will do for you but you can do for your country. These are the wise people who think about what to do to their country,” he added echoing the inauguration speach of the late US President John F. Kennedy.

In a related development, the deputy governor of Jonglei state Hussein Mar Nyuot told UN-run Miraya FM, that preparation for the celebration of South Sudan independence at state level in Jonglei are completed.

Deputy governor Mar, who heads the state high level committee for the celebration, says the state citizens are well aware of the challenges of holding a peaceful ‘big celebration’ in the state.

The state capital Bor was where a mutiny led to the formation of the SPLA, which fought Khartoum from 1983 until the 2005 peace deal.

    To Governor Kuol,
Your comments and words of wisdom are very much welcomed.keep on encouraging our state citizens to learn how to seek private jobs and those with lump sum amount of money, should learn how to invest and create job for their beloved citizens rather than relying on our poor government, which lack enough funds to create jobs and employ his citizens.

But you must at first priorities security within the state such that our people can move with their goods and services freely without any fear factor. Please you need to put more effort to train and encourage Murle to learn how to do farming, which is more secure than roaming the bush to killed, abduct, steal, and raids. We need peace first then development.Wish you all the best start.

Your praising is sound good but your people in Jonglei state are indolent, they know how to ask for only from the people, and playing with mongola, how could you encourage them to do that, they are supposed to learn from arabs people, how to marketing, but bad thing is that your train them how to steel other cows, this is a wrong mentality from the Dinka Bor.

    Kon Nyanteer/Manpaleeh,
The Nuer and Jaang alike raised cattle and do farming way back before the coming of Arab whom you think you depend on.The only grain brought by Arab was called Patirit but nobody ever grow that in our area but were being sold in an open market by the Arab traders.I know that both Nuer and Jaang shared the same culture of raising cattle and farming as their main sources of wealth. If you think you can let your community down, then it’s up to you.The then Lou Chief by name Gatluak thou was my neighbor in my home town and he was well known in the town because he was a tailor. And nobody ever disturbed. So Nuer and jaang used to coexist in a friendly manner before the evil infiltrated your community to doom.

while on the other hand, the Murle don’t know how to cultivate but base their living standards on cattle raiding.
Any nation on this world cannot survive without agriculture.
We need peace, unity and development.

    Good to hear you Mr. governor praising hardworking state citizens. Thank for that but you have failed to make a conducive atmosphere for small business to thrive. On top of what you must do;
    1. security
    2. capital; land, finances etc
Your state sir, is full of corrupt bureaucrats particularly with the land issues. I for one applied for land in 2007 but to date i have not heard about that application. Those people who work in the ministry of physical infrastructure are very corrupt top down. The state citizens must be supported by all means accessable.

The term is effecting us, not the western world! it is inventivity term, so that people will lose faith on their governments! Not every political figure is corrupted!! Now Who is not corrupt? according to how we us this term?

    Dear brothers and sisters,

I’m begging you to show and have some respect on our leaders.
People of South Sudan shouldnt be depend on goverment jobs, like Mr. Juuk said be a farmer be a fisherman and so on.

One thing I hope is that they(Goverments) should back us up.
About corruption: Can one of you name me a single country who is not corrupt?

One thing I know is that the whole world is corrupt even the western are.
The western are corrpt within their systems, because they are already in.

People who think and blame the system of South Sudan are corrupt too, if u believe that the system is corrupt, simple fact you are already in the system and the system is what make you being corrupt.
If not then do something about it, not by violence.

    Question for Thieleling:

Is it Kuol who is killing people of Jonqulei? They are killing themself with the help of those of Athor, Yayua, Gadet ect.
Is it Kuol/spla who is killing and chasing people away from Abyei? I personaly dont think so.

If i’m wrong please accept my apology. If not then please dont let your mouth be quicker then yourself and miss use his name.

There are some leaders who are now in power(GOSS) did kills thousands of innocent people. Why don’t you use their name on internet? Or was the name Kuol ringing in your head?

    Jacob,
Anybody can work for a government sector if qualified.Otherwise business/private sectors are the one that create 65% jobs in the country than the government, which share the remaining 35% job creation.Private stockholders are the backbone of the country.
