Machar arrives in New York for UN meeting to recognize independence of South Sudan
July 12, 2011 (JUBA) – A high level delegation from the newly born Republic
of South Sudan headed by Vice President Riek Machar arrived in the United States on Tuesday to attend the United Nations special session on South Sudan scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in New York.
The region formally gained its independence last Saturday following its peoples’ overwhelming vote for independence in the referendum conducted in January of this year, in accordance with the 2005 peace accord which ended 21 years of war between North and South Sudan.
Upon his arrival in New York on Tuesday evening, South Sudan vice president, Riek Machar, held his first meeting at the United Nations premises with the minister of foreign affairs in Germany, Guido Westerwelle. The meeting discussed bilateral issues between Germany and the Republic of South Sudan.
Machar was accompanied to the US by the caretaker minister of foreign affairs,
Deng Alor Kuol, finance and economic planning minister, David Deng Athorbei, and Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, head of the Republic of South Sudan Mission to the United States.

Don’t wast your time by claiming Dr. Riek is a killer, many southerness leaders are not perfect including Late Dr. Garang. Garang was first killer. Your Excellency, although your account of trustworthy was questionable and had in the past has been put to trials in may occasions, so far you outweighs those trials and individuals attempts to curbs your very work which does not serves your individual interest, rather the paramount interest of South Sudanese.
Your work so far is a superb and highly influential account of progressive society, which we should all be living freely with basic education, human dignity that was never afforded to us by Arabs, security and protections from arbitrarily laws imposed on us by Arabs.
