South Sudan president summons governors of the new country
July 17, 2011 (JUBA) – The President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir
Mayardit, has summoned all the governors of the ten states in the region to
discuss the future of the newly independent nation.
On Sunday the President met with the governors in his office who traveled to
Juba from their respective states on Saturday.
In a press statement after their meeting, the governor of Jonglei state, Kuol
Manyang Juuk, said they were called by the president to come to Juba and discuss
issues to do with “security, good governance and development” in the country.
Kuol said in the meeting each of the ten states governors briefed the president
about the current situation in their respective states and how they have been
handling them.
South Sudan formally became independent on July 9, following the
self-determination’s referendum in January this year that resulted to
overwhelming vote for secession from the rest of Sudan after 55 years of armed
struggle.
The referendum was provided for in the peace accord that ended the war between
North and South Sudan in 2005.
The new nation is to be governed by a new transitional constitution for the next
four years which has given the President the power to remove elected governor
and dissolve parliament when deemed necessary.

i hope the bullying meeting is not the show of absolute power by the president to dismiss the elected governors.
with such dictatorial transitional constitution governors will now kneel down and worship beny kiir or else they will all be dismissed one by one.

What would you do if you were Kiir and those governors are failed to do what they are suppose to be doing? Would you fired them and appoint those who will work hard or just leave them to keep stealing public funds? Let’s not support the corrupt leaders this time if we care about the development of our country. President Kiir has every right to fire anyone who doesn’t do his/her work well. “Bully them Beny Kiir, but don’t use that absolute power to bully wrong people”

Mi diit is right.
You don’t kneel down on him, means you are not going to get back your position. To me, this meeting is a survey in which he can see who may oppose him in the near furtur. There will be a lot of resignation and replacement before constitution is change in the next four years.

Benydit de yuong nation summoning the goovernors of ten states to his palace in juba.the so call governors have no any legitimate power to question the king because the transitional constitution has left the governors withno choices but to summit themselves to benydit deen King Kir or losing their jobs with states.
Its seems the new nation is contradicting the course of democracy.how in the world would a president remove somebody that was voted in position by public to service their interests, and sack him/her without voters consent.this make no sense at all

brothers, don’t get me wrong. i thought the ten governors were equally elected democratically like salva kiir in the last elections by the people. it is the people that can remove them in the next elections when their terms are over.
so if kiir can dismiss elected governors or mps, then what was the point and meaning of elections in the first place?

Don’t forget my brother,we are in the Republic of South Sudan, not in the South Sudan,His Exellency has right to summon them for new instructions,we could not start new nation without breifing all governors of ten stats they are presidents in their states, there are many chellengs for newly nation, they must to be given guide lines for new nation,so done worry about that, just wait for what is going to do with them.

Readers,
What president Kiir doing is reeveluate those governors and see who is doing his/her job well. To evaluate the work of every governor will motivate them to work better than what they already did in their States. Kiir don’t have a gut to fire the excellent working governor.

I think you haven’t understood the new constitution that was signed on the 9th July 2011 during independent day by President Kiir. That constitution null and void the what you still called election. That election was for interim period if you follow CPA implementation very well.
The president of Republic of South Sudan will be the appointing authority for the next 4 years my friend. All those governors you are seeing, wait and see the formation of National government after 2 week, some of them will be removed without complain. Some of them deserve to be removed especially Lakes state, Warrab and Unity state. I know some of you will add the list.

All the governors you mentioned in your comment are loyal to H E,,theeir people don’t want them, they came by rigging election, they were not legally elected by their people,so H E must to chang them first, before any other governors, they are the real corruptionists in their states, they must to be chang for good.if we want good governane in the newly nation.

Friend you miss the point presindent has never been dictating his government, since he was made the president of government of south sudan let alone this current government of Republic of South Sudan.May be he call them to advice him on how to form the coming government or to brief them on how to run the state government due current insecurity
