Lakes State: More returnees arrive Yirol West County

July 26, 2011 (JUBA) – Lakes state authorities in Yirol West County have received ten Lorries loaded with Southern returnees on Monday as southerners continue to move to South Sudan after the country’s independence this month.

Since independence North Sudan has said that all South Sudanese would have to apply for residency and would not be able to stay past April 2012, nine months after secession.

The criteria used to define citizenship or residency has not been defined and it one of issues, along with oil, debt and borders that are being discussed by the two parties in Addis Ababa.

The new returnees were recently stranded in Shambe port facing difficulties finding transport to their respective locations across the eight counties of Lakes state.

The returnee children, elderly people and women are the first returnees to arrive Yirol West County since South Sudan declared independence on July 9.

The transport of returnees was carried out by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The returnees arrive Yirol West town at 5pm on Monday.

Thousands of well wishers people turned out to welcome the returnees to Yirol West town.

Yirol West County commissioner Makur Kulang Liei has instructured his county administrators to allow places for returnees to be accommodated until they can be integrated with their relatives.

Kulang said that “we have received 400 returnees who just arrive from Shambe Port yesterday evening and we have accommodated them near Yirol West hospital”.

Returnees shared their happiness at being reunited with lost friends and families after up to two decades apart.

Sudan second North-South civil war (1983-2005) killed around two million and displaced four million according to UN estimates. A peace deal six years ago allowed South Sudan to secede through a referendum in January.

    Dear John Gum,
Don’t be fool like Loboi. If I were you, I would rather chose reasononing of some statements being posted on this media instead of wasting time spending money over the internet insulting leaders with false allegations. Use you time now in the UN to learn how you can contribute to your state as Lakes and South Sudan as well. Yes, you are a citizen of Lakes and your have your democratic right to blame your government if things are really not going well but as a young person and who would want to see Lakes State prospers, don’t insult leaders, be objective when constructing or presenting national issues to public.
If you are getting informations out of blue, then it is high time for you to go to http://www.gurtong.net where you will have more informations about $27 millions dollars which is said to have been smuggled by Chol.
