Sudan president holds telephone conversation with SPLM leader

Al_Beshir_Garang.jpgKHARTOUM, May 30, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — Sudanes president Omar al-Beshir, held a telephone conversation with the leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), John Garang, During the telephone conversation, Al-Bashir thanked Garang on the agreement reached and expressed hope that, the process will continue with the same speed until the country realizes the expected aims like development.

For his part, Garang praised Al-Bashir for the telephone call, stressing SPLM’s total commitment to the agreement reached in order to realize the aspirations of the Sudanese people both in the south and north of the country.

On the Other hand, the chairman of government delegation to the Naivasha peace talks, Idris Muhammad Abd-al-Qadir disclosed about an official application by the SPLM wanting to open its office in Khartoum.

He also announced establishment of a national committee charged with drafting of a transitional constitution for country. He said the committee will embark on its six months’ work after the approval of the final peace agreement by the current parliament.

The committee will be charged with merging the peace agreement with the existing 1998 constitution to ensure that there exists no contradiction in the constitution.
