Workers in South Sudan being paid in North Sudan’s currency

by Bonifacio Taban Kuich

August 10, 2011 (BENTIU) – A Unity state, South Sudan, oil company is paying South Sudanese workers at its oil field in North Sudanese currency Gideon Gatpan Thoar, the state minister of information and Communication told Sudan Tribune in an interview on Wednesday.

North_Sudan_s_new_currency_AFP_.jpgThoar said that the actions were “very dangerous” and various ministries are involved in ensuring that the practise does not continue.

He explained that the oil company has been instructed to use the South Sudanese pound or in US dollars.

Many of the oil companies operating in South Sudan have their offices in Khartoum. Since the secession, Thoar suggested that it was the responsibility of the government to attract these companies open offices in Juba

Thoar denied suggestions that North and South Sudan are involved in an economic war. South Sudan launched its currency ahead of schedule after accusing North Sudan of denying them cash. In response, North Sudan launched a new currency with references to South Sudan removed.

The company who did that, should be fired for good because this is unlawful. We hope governor Taban Deng Gai will bring those people to book or they must leave period.

What a shame! The manager of that oil company and senior staffs must be expelled from the Country. That act is an abuse to our soveriegnity and serious response will be necessary so as others who think they can just do it are deterred from such malicious act. Expelled them, now. Unity State has to do that.

Secondly, they must have their Headquarters in Juba as well as their accouts in South Sudan Central Bank. where did they get the money to pay employees from? Not from South Sudan Banks? Hey! South Sudan Govt need to move very fast in instituting such measures.

    Hey,
Time should not be wasted here on those companies with such a crime. they must be suspended because their policies and guidelines are attached to their agreement with the Khartoum Governmnet than ROSS. The minister concern should chase them away from our soil and look for another company which will understand the rule of laws in Sooth Sudan.

I agree with all of you guys, those companies must relocate their HQ to Juba and the agreement be reviewed, if not then they must pack and go, leave our oil alone. This act is painful, provocative and undermining our sovereignty. Let the government of Unity State take any necessary measures against those companies including fines and more.

    Hello! Fans.

This website becomes scams. Why I say so? Because this people change change sentences to from either postive or negative. For example, “I don’t need that” they will change it to “I do need that” in postive of their interests.
