Sudan, U N. sign reproductive health project for darfur

KHARTOUM, May 31, 2004 (SUNA) — The government of Sudan and the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNPFA) signed Sunday a reproductive health project in the war-affected areas in Darfur with a total value of 1,400,000 dollars.

Minister of International Cooperation, Yosuf Suliman Takana, signed for the government while the representative of the UNPFA, Dr. Nimal Hettiaratchy, signed for the UNFPA.

Addressing the signing ceremony, the Minister of International Cooperation expressed his appreciation over the activity of the UNPFA in Sudan, referring to the projects implemented by UNFPA in Gedarif and Kassala States, calling for boosting cooperation with the agencies of the UN regarding the development programmes.

State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nagib Al-Khair Abdul-Wahab, who attended the signing ceremony, said the project will contribute in solving health issues of Darfur states, urging the governmental organs to establish partnership with the UNFPA.

Representative of the UNFPA highlighted the importance of the Reproductive Health Project in Darfur States as well as the prospective plans of the UNFPA in these states.
