E. Equatoria’s Madi community tells Dinka IDPs to go home

August 18, 2011 (JUBA) – A dialogue initiated by the Madi community in Nimule payam of Magwi county in Eastern Equatoria state to encourage the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Dinka community to go back to their home areas has been aborted, a community leader has disclosed.

A meeting was scheduled for July 8th between the two communities but failed to take place due to lack of attendance by the Dinka community elders in the area.

In a strongly worded press release published on Wednesday by The Citizen newspaper, the Supreme Leader of the Madi community and the chairman of the Madi Community Council, Angelo Vuga Morgan, said his community’s attempt to explain to the IDPs why they wanted them to leave was ignored.

He said since the country has become independent, it was time for communities to embark on developing their motherlands.

“We also decided that we should meet our brothers and sisters, the Dinka IDPs in Nimule, and indeed, in the whole of Madi area to alert them of the independence of South Sudan and also to find out what are their plans now that we are embarking on a new war which is the development of our country,” he stated.

The community leader said his request for a meeting on July 8th in which about 20 Dinka elders were invited to meet with Madi elders on the issue was not attended by their counterparts.

“But to our surprise and dismay the Dinka IDPs elders never showed up for that meeting despite the fact that they did not reply to the chief’s letter that they would not come for the meeting and why,” he said.

Morgan further explained the importance of the meeting, saying it would have provided an opportunity to hear from the IDPs about what still prevents them from repatriating back to their home areas now that the nation is independent.

He appealed to whoever can assist in trying to encourage the elders of the IDPs to meet with them and resolve the issue, warning that the boycott would be seen as “hostile attitude” by the IDPs.

The IDPs in Nimule, like in any other part of South Sudan, were displaced during the 21 years of civil war between North Sudan and South Sudan.

The region gained its independence on 9 July following an overwhelming vote for secession from the rest of Sudan.

The transitional constitution of South Sudan gives every citizen the right to choose where to reside within the territory of the region.

Those who are in Nimule are still in South Sudan. Who can tell who where to live in the South?

Everybody is free to live anywhere so as a long as s/he breaks n laws. Accepting this will cause trouble everywhere in the south. It will encourage hatred because everybody will say, this is my place and I don’t want you here.

The Madi community has no right to dismiss the IDP from Eastern Equatoria since the war was fought out of regional restrictions. The same must be true for regional habitation.Any citizen who had contributed in the battle for this nation must reside where he or she wish .

I find this whole idea of “people should go to their traditional provinces” stupid. This Madi chief should be informed that the idea of an independent, united, free South Sudan is for all South Sudanese to live in any part of their country freely, so long as they don’t infringe on the rights of others.

If a Dinka businessman is runing his business in Nimule, what other development is this old retard talking about.A Madi man/woman can also decide to live in Malakal,Wau,Bor or Juba.

If it happens that the so-called Dinka IDPs are occupying private properties, then it is an issue of an individual to ask the justice system to redeem his/her rightful property through a court of law.It is not about a tribe,a whole community or some stupid chief to run his mouth about.

    I am sick of tribalism.

    Madi tribe.

Very interesting, the people who fought very hard and lost their Sons in all Equatoria regions are now being told to leave Equatoria.

There were thousand Dinkas been killed at Magwi county, while the young of Equatorian run away to Uganda inside and now the Madi tribe are saying leave Nimule Payam. I think the Dinka will need another movement in Equatoria to liberating again. I think Dinkas people must study careful because they think independence was just came alone let see how that thing will work.

There is no need to tell citizen in same nation to leave while, the movement to live freely any where in one nation was part of liberation does Equatorian don’t understand why we fought for.? This is absolutely a racist and we need to take it seriously.

The Dinka Bor can’t listen with their ears but they do listen with their eyes, those Madi community should stop wasting their time talking to them to go home but do what the mighty people of WES did to them in 2005 only that they can listen.

This communist ideology of Garang that every South Sudanese is free to live anywhere in South Sudan is dead with him at once and should not practiced again. God was not stupid to made you live in Bor, that is the land that HE gave to your ancestral, you must live on it and til to produce your food.

The madi should be brave enough to take their land otherwise they will have no voice on their own land in the future.

Send national security personnel there to silence their mentality of kokora.

Equatorians do not learn with their head but with their eyes. Respond to those Madi elders with what they can see better to teach others to be tolerant of others living among them.

South Sudan cannot be held hostage by mindless Equatorian segregationists.

Give those elders a dose of discipline by charging them with stocking hatred and interfering with national security in the country. Those are legitimate crimes punishable by law.
Prosecuting them will serve as a lesson to others who want to stock up hatred and violent in the country.

    ATTENTION!!! ALL EQUATORIANS,

It is now very clear that Garang’s communist ideology and waging of war in 1983 wasn’t against the Arabs in the north but against the Equatorians so that they can occupy their land, you can see when the war started in 1983 instead of advanced northwards where the enemies reside they moved southwards to greater Equatoria, roaming around here for decades even when the Arabs all left for north.

I’m asking the great people of Equatoria to open their eyes this time and be ready to face any challenge in the near future. Those land grabbers are just making a lot of noise here for nothing but they will eventually go.

The whole Equatorians young men were so fearful who have done nothing in the SPLA Movement and even this day.The Dinkas people have two things, they like all people in Sudan and they want them to be free that is the vision of all Dinkas.

If you try to bad with them, you will never see anything good in your life. The whol Arabs are complain saying,if it was not Dinka then. others tribes wouldn’t make to compete with them. the official name for Dinka is Muonyjang meaning the man of the man.

It is sad that some South Sudanese still behave like sub-human beings!! Why should a problem that can be solved amicably turn up to be a problem that may cause people to raise assegais? It is crystal clear that South Sudan is not in peace and whoever was displaced to areas they do not come from should go back to their original home. Why should that be a problem? It is like this everywhere in the world why should it be a problem here? I believe there is something amiss with those who do not want to go to their original home. No amount of excuse for their stay in those areas can be allowed? The claim that South Sudan is one country therefore one is free to stay in other people’s land is unacceptable. No body can claim he set the victims of this injustice from the injustice of Jallaba to grant him right to occupy other people’s land. I believe that is the beginning of trouble if this trend of affairs is not thwarted. The land of South Sudan is occupied according to tribes. This cannot be changed quite easily like that. The people fought Arabs for that. I do not think they will stand cross-armed while their land is being occupied. Where should the owners of these land go? Go to Nashir or Abyei? Please tell us the people who do not have common sense.

All tribe fought for territory of whole South Sudan with out particularity or segregation. What do mahdi want to build in that vast land???.Why don,t they told Jalaba in Juba to go to North through all this era of struggle??.Dinka lost blood in Those Areas you mentioned and the will never leave place where they pour blood and skeleton. If mahdi want Dinka to leave those places, They should compensate life and blood of people died in Torit , Kapota,Nimule ,Kimatong,Ikotus,Kiella,Kormachii,Awinykibul,Parajo and Chukudom .

Let mahdi try and they may face consequences of that complaint.Majority of Equatorians left land to Arab and Run to Uganda and they complained to expell Dinka who liberate their mother land.NEVER .

    Hello Amadi Community!

It’s better to remember the past periods of war in South Sudan at large.

Were all of Madi at home that time? Do you have right to call South Sudanese citizen ‘IDPs?’

You are inviting problems to your innoccent community which does not know about a massive death.

Please I strongly advice you to refrain from such attitudes.

The constitution of the Republic doesn’t allow you to say IDP. You can talk of a plot the better but not sending residents away from the area of their living.

I think you are vibrating because of being in the politics so that you please Madi with wrong information which will cause them to become IDPs in the neighbouring countries of Kenya, Uganda and Congo.

You first try your best and we shall call you back for discussion after an experience because it’s the best teacher. You are very lucky to share neighborhood with Dinka Bor.

I do not understand why people complain that Abyei belong to Dinka Ngok since before the independence of South Sudan, anybody has the right to settle anywhere and claim that place as their own as Dinka Bor is now doing in Nimule. Madi does not have any border with Dinka. We know that was the expansion idealogy of Garang to occupy all the bordering places because of the threat they get from Murle and Nuer in Jonglei. There is no problem with Dinka to live in any part of South Sudan only if they adhere to rule of law. The issue of Nimule, the Dinkas behave with impunity. They torture the local population and have a Dinka police station for torturing the local people who are law abiding citizens. Secondly, the Dinka steal cattle from Jonglei and bring them to Madi area causing havoc to the whole farms. This is unacceptable. We know most of these people are savages, who do not understand rule of law. Most of them have occupied other people’s plots forcefully. These are some of the issues, that if not resolved amicably, would descend the country into chaos.

    Folks,

If these first coward Equartorians don’t want to use force, the second coward, Jaang/Slaves who were evicted by Mighty Nuer Warriors from their homestead during 1991 incident will never leave that land. They (Jaang/Slaves) fear that the Mighty Nuer Warriors might slaughter them again like in 1800s and beyond.

Nuer occupation/invasions and their effects on other Jurs (Dinka, Anyuak, Burun…)

The vast area appropriated by the Nuer during the nineteenth century was formerly occupied by a Dinka, Anyuak and Burun population. The fate of this population is one of the most interesting questions pertaining to Nuer expansion. How many Dinka, Anyuak, Burun… were killed by the Nuer? How many died of starvation? How many migrated to other areas? And how many were assimilated into Nuer community?

Although Nuer territorial appropriation had virtually ceased by the early 1800s, the Nuer continued to raid/invade the Dinka for cattle, Anyuak and Burun for land until present.

Three large-scale Nuer raids against the Southern Dinka that took place in 1914, 1916, and 1928 are of particular interest. In each of these instances the Nuer Warriors penetrated over ninety miles into Dinka territory and twice captured over five thousand head of cattle. These raids/invasions were, in many respects, comparable to the initial thrusts of the Nuer during their earlier period of territorial expansion, and document the scale of devastation wrought by Nuer aggression.

During the closing phase of Nuer expansion, the Gaawar and Lou Nuer pushed the Ric, Ghol, and Nyarraweng Dinka south as far as Faijing in present-day Twij County. The Nuer progressively gained the upper hand in these conflicts, and in 1906 launched a large-scale raid on the Faijing settlement that forced the Dinka to withdraw about sixteen miles further south to Kongor. Then in 1908 the Gaawar Nuer attacked the Dinka at Kongor, burning their crops and settlements, killing over a hundred people and took over eighty captives mostly young girls.

In 1908-10, the British sought to end the Nuer occupation toward Dinkaland and established control over the area. A new border between the Nuer and Dinka was established at the favor of Dinka at Duk Padiet, fifty miles north of Kongor, and the Ghol, Ric, and Nyarraweng were awarded about four thousand aquare miles of territory they had previously lost during Nuer expansion. Although a substantial portion of this grant represented an uninhabited no-man’s-land between the Nuer and the Dinka, the Nuer were also required to relinquish territory under active occupation. The Nuer undoubtedly viewed the transfer as a government-sponsored Dinka invasion.

In February, 1910, several months before the Duk Padiet post was established, the Gaawar Nuer attacked a group of Ghol Dinka who had precipitously reoccupied Faijing, kill over two hundred individuals and captured ninety captives along with countless cattle. Less than five days later, a large party of Lou Nuer crossed the government-delineated border and overran the Ghol and Nyarraweng Dinka villages around Duk Padiet, capturing five thousands head of cattle and inflicting “severe losses” on the Dinka populace. The police post at Duk Padiet was also attacked, but the Nuer Warriors were repulsed, losing twenty-six men while killing six policemen and wounding three in the engagement.

The Nuer Warriors raiding party pressed south to within a few hours walk of the government station at Bor, ninety miles deep into Dinka territory. In the course of these raids/invasions they captured “large numbers” of cattle, young women, and children (in addition to the five thousand cattle noted above). In the area under attack, the Bor Dinka “suffered very severely” (ibid.). After a span of less than three weeks, the Nuer Warriors successfully withdrew with their spoils.

Elements of the Ghol and Nyarraweng Dinka who fled the Nuer advance were reportedly harried by the Twij Dinka, who “stole all the women and cattle they could lay hands on.” Two other large groups of Dinka refugees moved north into Nuer territory in an attempt to evade the Lou Nuer onslaught.

In May 1916, the Nuer Warriors again struck deep into Dinka territory, penetrating to within twenty miles of the Bor post. At this point, a contingent of 500 Nuer tribesmen was spotted by Dinka scouts sent out to reconnoiter, and a large number of Dinka accompanied by a Sudanese army officer and some soldiers moved out to intercept them. After initial contact was made, the Nuer retreated with the soldiers and Dinka in pursuit. Employing a stratagem they were to use on other occasions, the Nuer thus drew their antagonists into an ambush. Suddenly, the Nuer Warriors were heavily reinforced and attacked in strength, slaughtering, scattering the Dinka and wiping the army detachment and kill them all to the last man.

The following year (1917) the British launched a major punitive expedition against the Lou Nuer, resulted in heavy casualties have been inflicted on both sides. Few days later, the Gaawar and elements of Lou Nuer launched a large-scale raid that penetrated deep into Southern Dinka territory, following the now familiar pattern established in 1914 and 1916. Seventy villages were burned down to ashes and the crops destroyed, over two hundred Dinka were killed, four hundred young women and children were taken as captives and three thousand cattle taken. A Nuer raiding party with an estimated strength of fifteen hundred Warriors also attacked the government post at Duk Faiwil in the course of this raid. The Nuer succeeded in driving off fifty head of government cattle, but suffered heavy casualties: forty-eight men killed and eighty wounded.

Being further removed from early incursions of the Nuer, the Twi, like the Bor, have suffered far less from yearly raids/invasions and have fattened upon their brother Dinka’s misfortunes. There is no doubt that they (the Twi) regarded the yearly flight for refuge into their country by the Nyarraweng and Ric as a chance for profit and were in the habit of annexing a large percentage of the herds of these tribes when the latter retired disorganized upon them for support.

Dinka alliance with the Nuer had analogous effects. The alliance of a Dinak tribal section with a segment of one Nuer tribe provided security against raids by other Nuer only for that particular Dinka section, and only if the latter lived among their Nuer kin and affine. Moreover, the presence of such Dinka elements within a Nuer tribe did not deter them from raiding other Dinka (including, in some instances, other sections of the same Dinka tribe). Since Dinka refugees were often derived of their cattle by members of other Dinka tribes, they were not reluctant to urge their Nuer hosts to raid/invade the latter.

The Nuer Warriors typically attack a Dinka village at dawn when the cattle are lodged in shelters or tethered near the homesteads. As a result of Nuer Warriors invasions, many Dinka families come into Nuer country to escape hunger and the other attendant miseries to which they have been reduced by constant Nuer raiding/invasion that always leave them cattleless. The Dinka seldom offer any concert resistance, but rather sought to escape with as many cattle as possible. Later a counterattack might be undertaken with the aid of reinforcements from other communities. This strategy of initial withdrawal conceded the destruction of the settlement and in harvest season raids, the loss of grain supplies.

In 1912, the Eastern Jikany Nuer and Lou Nuer undertook their own reprisal against the Anyuak. The Nuer Warrios invasion/raid was directed against the Anyuak villages on the North bank of the Baro/Sobat River from the Ethiopian border to Itang/Achua, a distance about fifty miles. Later reports indicated “All the villages in this formerly prosperous neighborhood have been devastated.

Ten Nuer contigents of three hundred men each could simultaneously attack as many communities and later regroup at one or two captured villages with their stolen cattle to await any counterattack that might be launched. A large [Raik Dinka] raiding surprised a Nuer village and, Dinka-like, sat down to a happy day wrangling over the spoil. It was their last, for meanwhile the Nuer Warriors surrounded them, and in the ensuing panic slaughtered them to the last man.

The discipline of Nuer forces is also demonstrated by a remarkable capacity of continues to press and assault while sustaining very heavy casualties. When, the Eastern Jikany Nuer Warriors were attacked early in 1912 by a heavy armed Ethiopian force of Gala/Oromo and Amhara, intent on taking slaves, the Nuer lost over 100 men in the course of overrunning the invaders’ machine gun emplacement. The invaders’ (Ethiopians) mission was not only failed, but also lost over 300 soldiers and 50 missing. The Nuer also made a number of concerted attacks on fortified government posts. In one instance in which a Nuer raiding party was intercepted by a government patrol, the Nuer lost 85 men in the initial engagement but nevertheless counterattacked the same night and again the following day before withdrawing to home territory.

It is also quite clear that Nuer military domination of the Dinka and other Jurs was grounded in their capacity to field a numerically superior fighting force, and in the organizational features through which mobilization on a large scale was effective. Other aspects of the Nuer advantage were secondary and derivative. Nuer Warriors tactics are relatively simple and straightforward.

Systematic Nuer cattle raids/invasions, conducted on an annual basis, created a periphery of debilitated Dinka communities that yielded readily to Nuer territorial appropriation. Seasoned Nuer raiding parties were pitted against famine-ridden Dinka groups struggling to survive through periods of scarcity resulting from previous raids. Under the circumstances it is not surprising that the Dinka were unable to mount any effective resistance to continuing Nuer territorial expansion.

As this expansion proceeded, displaced Dinka groups were pushed into adjacent areas where they came into conflict with the existing population whose land and grazing rights they infringed. These conflicts undoubtedly contributed to a lack of unity in meeting subsequent Nuer attacks. Successful Nuer cattle raids thus engendered conditions favorable to territorial expansion, and the continuation of this expansion was further facilitated by the aftermath of prior Dinka defeat.

Persons of the Dinka decent form probably at least half the population of most [Nuer] sub-tribes. These Dinka are either children of captives or immigrants who have been brought up as Nuer, or are themselves captives and immigrants who are residing permanently among Nuer. They are “Jaang-Nath,” “Dinka-Nuer,” and, it is said, “caa Naath,” “they have become Nuer.”

There must also have been pockets of the original Dinka, Anyuak and Burun occupants of the country overrun by the Nuer Warriors who submitted and gave up their language and habits in favor of those of the Nuer. At any rate, there are today in all Nuer sub-tribes many small Dinka lineages and village are often named after them (Dinka, Anyuak, Burun…)

Nuer raids/invasions always resulted in the capture of substantial numbers of young women and children. Captives taken by the Nuer always includes boys, girls, and young women of
Marriageable age, but the captives always outnumber the casualties inflicted on Dinka, Anyuak, Burun… by the Nuer Warriors. The loss of a single productive female is thus estimated to reduce her natal population by 3.4 individuals several generations later, and to add a like increment to the population she joins.

The capture of 372 young women and girls a year during the period of 1818 to 1905 would remove 32,625 productive females from the Central Dinka and Anyuak population and thus eventually decrease that population by 110,915 individuals. The capture of 125 boys a year over the same period would decrease the Central Dinka and Anyuak population by an additional 5,250 persons. In sum, the proposed rate of capture would effectively transfer 116,165 persons from Central Dinka and Anyuak population to that of the Nuer.

North of the Sobat River, the British faced even more formidable and intransigent opposition from the Eastern Jikany Nuer who lived along the Ethiopian frontier. They were well armed with rifles and ammunitions from Ethiopia and raid neighbors, the Burun and Koma to the North, the Dinka and Anyuak to the South – as well as Ethiopian tribes in the Western foothills.

Under the command of Lt. Col. Bacon a powerful patrol was finally launched against the Eastern Jikany Nuer from Nasir in January 1920, complete with machine guns and airplanes. The three sections of Eastern Jikany Nuer Warriors attacked the advanced troops; sustaining heavy losses conflicted on both sides including the life of Lt. Col. Bacon. The Jikany Warriors were led by Captain of war, Mr. Mut Dung

The Lou Nuer thus renewed their raids on the Dinka, while the Eastern Jikany Nuer attacked the Burun to the northeast. The later were as yet outside the sphere of British administrative attention and could be raided without interference. The intensity of Eastern Jikany Nuer raids on the Burun later became apparent when the colonial administration began to be extended into this area reporting improved.

There were fifteen raids in 1919 and eight in 1920 before the “Systematic bombing and gunning,” of Eastern Jikany Nuer settlements by the Royal Air Force (F.A.F.) ended the Jikany offensive. In 1927, the Lou Nuer was thought to be planning a major offensive against the Dinka. This prompted a series of government patrols that thought unsuccessfully to arrest the Prophet Guek, believed to be the source of Lou Nuer “unrest.” Government action included the R.A.F bombing of Pyramid of Prophet Ngundeng, which was both a religious shrine and Guek’s home base.

The record of the early colonial period reveals that the Dinka counterattacked Nuer raiding parties only when the later were quite small or when government troops spearheaded the counteroffensive. On two occasions when the Dinka joined the government forces in operations against large-scale Nuer raiding parties, they suffered devastating defeats. A single column which encountered resistance from a combined force of Dinka and government troops withdrew in apparent disarray with the Dinka in hot pursuit, while some of the Nuer Warriors feigned disorderly retreat. The majority ambushed the Dinka from two sides inflicting heavy casualties.

There are no recorded instances in which the Dinka succeeded in countering a large-scale Nuer offensive without government assistance, despite the fact that they were issued guns and ammunitions by the government and hold a strong advantage in this respect. The Dinka were evidently incapable of mounting an offensive counteroffensive that would have tied down Nuer forces in defense of home territory and were likewise unable to recoup their steady losses in cattle and land. The Nuer were thus free to leave their villages undefended while they engaged in extended raids, operating from bases established in conquered Dinka villages. Although a Dinka counteroffensive against undermanned Nuer communities undoubtedly would have curtailed extended Nuer raids and offered highly favorable prospects for capturing large numbers of cattle, there is no evidence that the Dinka ever adopted this strategy. Moreover, the Dinka were unable to mobilize a defensive force equivalent in size to the eighteen hundred men who comprised a large raiding party and were consequently unable to contain their advance.

Lacking the capacity to mount an offensive counterattack, the Dinka, Anyuak, Burun… had no recourse other than withdrawal. Under these circumstances, the rapid Nuer Conquest/occupation of the vast Western Dinka region [Mayom, Mankien…], Southern Dinka region [Nyuong Nuer territory], Central Dinka region [Fangak, Ayod, Waat…], Eastern Dinka, Anyuak and Burun region [Eastern Jikany Nuer and Lou Nuer territory] is not difficult to understand.

Had the Nuer ever wished to occupy the whole greater Upper Nile, from Renk to Mading Bor and from Ruweng/Biemnom to Buma-Gambella, it seems unlikely that the other coward Jurs (Jaang, Teet, Bar, Chai…) could have stopped them.

Equatorians have been quite all these time because we had one enemy which is Jallaba. But the Jenges think we are stupid. They claim to be liberators, if that is true, they would have been the first people to liberate themselves from Jallaba like Abyei land. We know the tactics, they are trying to change the history of our struggle which they will not. Go to USA, Canada, Europe as a whole, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Egypt. Jenges are the majority and they do not have any borders with the neighbouring countries, have we asked ourselves why, because they are cowards and escaped their land instead of resisting the Jallaba. It is time that we Equatorians forge unity with the other tribes to address this new occupation either amicably or by gun barrels.

This is a very interesting predicament indeed, which brings to the fore the ethnic tensions between the mobile herders and the settled farmers. Per the interim constitution Southern Sudanese have the right to choose where to live within the Southern Sudanese borders. But it has to be remembered that this legislation presupposes the right to live in any geographical locale within South Sudan, as long as such a living does not infringe the livelihood of another. Understood this way, we can all live wherever we want in South Sudan irrespective of our ethnic affiliation. But if it is proven that our way of life affects other group, then it is a question of conflict management. How do I live and let live? How can the Dinka with their cattle have access to grazing land and water without preying on Madi crops? Both Dinka and Madi authorities then are required to discuss an arrangement that will ensure they can both live together without harming each others’ livelihood. In fact I also recommend that both communities consider intermarrying and establishing kinship relations as historically, this mechanism has proved to be a constructive way of resolving conflicts. There is no need to blow the situation out of proportion, and present one community as better than the other, or as more patriotic than the other. We have all contributed to the liberation of South Sudan in various degrees and capacities. This divisive tribal mindset needs to change. You will be surprised how much we can learn from each other both as a Madi and as a Dinka. God bless South Sudan.

What is the difference between IDPs that are staying in Nimule and those who came from other states staying in a town like Juba. What is the difference between Madi and Dinka people? Are they not all South Sudanese and citizens of the country? They are equal citizens and they can choose to keep livestocks. Some can choose to keep chickens, goats or cows according to their wish.

Are all those non-Equatorians staying in the town of Juba, Yei, Yambio, Torit, Kapoeta IDPs and should they go back to their hometowns?

Those who are staying in Nimule are just staying there like other people staying in those towns I mentioned above.

If you don’t want people to stay in Nimule, then people in Rumbek, Wau, Malakal, Bentiu and Bor will start forcing out those who are not from the local neighbouring tribe of the town. Now is that the country we fought for?
Stop encouraging tribalism and segregation. Everybody should be free to live anywhere in the south and that is true freedom.

when the war broke out in 1983, we thought that it will go northwards because that is were our enemies stay and the land that we want take back but surprisingly instead Garang took the war southwards to Equatoria, this means that the Equatorians are the number one enemy and not the Arabs. Nuer is just an offshoot of Dinka Tribe.
Nuer was ruled and still being ruled by 19th and 20th century descendants of Dinka immigrants to Nuer land.

In case Nuer became strong in 19th and 20th century, still it was Dinka leadership that made Nuer successful in its expansion policy.

Never waste our time with a lot of falsified stories that are boring us. Nuer successes are Dinka successes because they are just the same community.

It is the usual Nuer foolishness and shortsightedness that makes those communities seem different to you.

If Dinkas were not important you, why do you struggle to raid their children and girls.
Have you ever heard of Dinka raiding Nuer or Murle children? It is because those people are not important to Dinka. But to Nuer and Murle, Dinka children are a matter of death and life.

To the entire Junglese community in South Sudan, I fair that your trying to inflict the worse thing ever on yourselves. You have been allowed to feed on Equatorians cattle, goats, sheep, chickens and etc for the last 21 years and yet your resisting from leaving the land of people who have save you from slavery. Your the most unwanted creatures not only in South Sudan but generally Worldwide. During the war Equatorians and Nuer were sacrificing to protect the land of South Sudan when you worthless, criminal and thieves where in Kakum, Uganda and Ethiopia getting feed up by UN like baboons in the forest of DRC. Have you ever seem some of your ugly images when you were in refugee camps bashing each other because of food? Don’t forget that your faces are the worse outstanding faces in the World, just like a giraffe appearing 5 miles away.

For sake I beg you to peacefully exit any single part of Equatoria and take your capital along with you. Don’t forget to take your belongings including any piece of rubbish, even under the ground dig them out and take it. Your not just a chronic disease but a HIV disease to the people of South Sudan who are peace loving society. The day your drama starts to bound from Nuer, Shullik and Equatoria land, it will be the worse thing for you to regret. How shameful you never have some flesh back of how beautiful your have been save in Equatoria. Can you actually define yourselves like humans?

DINKA sound like vomits from stomach, Al quade or Taliban are much better than the word dinka or donkey. That’s because your dirty right from your look, behaviors and action. Your structure doesn’t have any qualities because your just tall, ugly, stupid, criminal, lifeless and abusive people who doesn’t value life but meat and money. You want to bring cattle behaviors and apply in your own life how sad is that.

Do your really have a future in South Sudan in the next ten years? You dreaming of residing in Equatoria and when are you going to start developing your own nasty villages? I was thinking that you have learnt enough since your have been living in Equatoria for last 21 years, now it should be your time to go home and apply Equatorian lifestyle into your own lives not in Equatoria but in your own villages.

What makes you to think that your human beings if you have no empathy of understanding that its time for going home and start to establish a full life as a real citizen? This refusal of not leaving Equatoria has not been the first or the last but an extra fact of your criminality. The crumple constitution of dinkas government didn’t say people can just grab or claim someone’s property. It did give you freedom to come and invest or work for the government, BUT it doesn’t mean you will start to claim Equatoria as your own land.

If your social creatures why did you refuse to attend the meeting and ask the madi if they could allow you to stay with them. You dream of living in Equatoria and where do you expect the madi people to reside? On top of that as the constitution allow investors and works to roam, it didn’t allow criminal like you who do nothing accept stealing, robbing, abusing and assaulting of people to deliberately be in Magwi. Since inhuman is common in your village and culture it doesn’t mean you will bring and start them in Equatoria. Just pack and go to where you come from. Nobody likes you whether physically or mentally. Appreciate Madi for lending you their land and move your skeletons. Bear in mind that history will start to repeat itself if you start to abuse the freedom your enjoying. A dog eats in your plate and after finishing the food it will start defecate in the same plate and that’s the simplest way of describing your wildness. Get consent from Madi community or wait for the day to prove your cowardliness, but to be honest I will even disapprove any sort of permission because your cruel among yourselves and impossible for you to fit in Equatoria.

Logic is Back determine to see Peace and harmony all Over Equatoria

    Dear Ahmed Chol,
It is good you are getting the point. Madi are saying IDPs to go home, it is does not require evening class to understand it. If you want to stay in Nimule, there are a systems and procedures, which I think do exists in all the towns you mentioned. There are community leaders and Land Lords whom your people defying.
Secondly, we have State/County survey Departments who are there to assist you in such related matters. However, residing in ones plot/land in the name spliting blood in it will split more blood which I don’t think you are ready to do so.
Be worn and be ware Madi have been lenient enough I think this time around you intimidation and harrasment is a solution KALAS!.

I though you were smart enough but you are a freaking mother fuck who just talk with the same melody as if you are hold a cup of wine in your mouth. In a democracy country, no one has a right to tell somebody to go where they come from. Please ask yourself a question why are you in San Diago USA and you don’t leave since your country got independent? You yourself is a baboon not Ahmed Chol get it right.

During the war, no one of these sucker communities were telling dinka, or Nuer soldiers to go their respectives areas that you got these but now talking stupid. I ‘m from Northern Bhar-el-Ghazal myself and all those funk ass who are doing businesses in our teritorises most are from your areas should we kick them out as well? I guess not so, you just need to stop drinking like an idiots and talk randomily.

The northern arab mentality ( it’s only those with military might are the one heard) is emerging in southern sudan politics. In the old sudan, those who are presenting their grievances through legal and peaceful means are not attended to but they always adhere to those with violent and militarily means of presenting their grievances and that is why there are a lot of wars in it. south sudan is not an exceptional in this sense, the government of south sudan since 2005 had adapted the politics of silence, in regards to the issue of some of the irresponsible IDPs who are causing havoc in most parts of Equatoria region. This people ran from their places due to the war and that is why they are call IDPS ( internally displace persons) but now the reason of their displacement has gone with signing of peace together with the independence of south sudan, now what is their logical reasons of insisting of staying and causing havoc in these places? or there is an hidden agenda against Equatorians? bcoz what i know the war is over and every one is suppose to go to his own place to develop it.
Regarding the usual rhetoric (we liberated you and your land) is just for political consumption, bcoz it’s not logical for some one leaving his own village to the enemy and claiming of liberating other peoples’ lands, this is just an irresponsible wording? And when we contrast statistically the number of IDPs in the north and refugees around African countries and other parts of the world, dinka is the leading tribe, here comes a doubting question, then who fought the war as they claim? otherwise we are left to say that most of the dinka fought the war in kakum camp and robbing of relief and livestock of other tribes. try to know that by this kind of irresponsible wordings you are denying many southern sudanese their share of liberation struggle and by doing so you are inviting for yourselves enemies. The Equatorians have tolerated you people for so long on a pretext that we are all brothers fighting for the same objectives and with the hope that you might change from your unfriendly behaviors but all in vain.
I can’t assume that people like you who can write and read can give a very insulting comments such as above and claiming to be nationalist, then what about those in cattle camps and the villages, what will be there comments?.
Dear brothers, lets try to accommodate the situation before things get out of control, bcoz there is nothing called infinite tolerance.

Well, Every citizen of South Sudan has A RIGHT to live in any city they like, even the North never told Southerners to leave their cities of Shendi, Abu Hamad etc….

If people were moving to Equatorian villages, then I will be among the first to call for their eviction, but if they are living in towns and cities such as Nimule, Juba, Yai…then no one on this planet can force them to leave.

There’s no nation on this planet that tell its citizens that they can’t live in certain towns and cities, none.

Equatorians (like all South Sudanese) have a right to live wherever they wish, and they also have a right to demand to rule South Sudan, its their country, and they will have my vote. But if you are calling on other tribes to leave Equatoria, then you are asking people to give up their rights.

REMEMBER: Even Northerners never told Southerners that they couldn’t live in certain cities and towns (before the separation that is).

And if Equatorians want separation, I am afraid we will end up with a blood bath just like Rwanda, but will remain united. its a foolish path to follow.

Now that I think about it, I am moving to live in Juba, and we will see who will try to force me to leave.

Its also true that anyone who will try to force Equatorians out of my hometown, will be asking for trouble.

Lets stop this nonsense an focus on building a strong and prosperous nation.

Every big project that is being built in South Sudan (and yes in Equatoria) is being financed from the oil revenues from Unity State. I can only imagine what will Equatorians be saying if the oil fields where in their states.

Nobody objects to Dinkas living in Equatoria. The issue being discussed here is the impunity of these people who are trying to oppress the Madi people. People should follow the legal ways of obtaining plots in order to live instead of occupying people’s houses and plots and claim them your own. This is what is causing all the anger. I personally have my uncle’s clinic and two plots in Nimule that are now occupied by the Dinka and they are refusing to evacuate the place. They are following the same trend of the Benjs in Juba who have forcefully taken people’s plots. There are pending 600 cases of these land grabbing.

Recently, a man was caughing bring trucks full of cattle destined for Nimule and other rural areas. They are now in Acha and other surrounding areas. What does this picture portray? We know this is a conspiracy of Dinka Bor and Acholi to terrorize the Madis. Acholi is implicating themselves in an issue that, they would not be able to save themselves from.

People are advocating for genocide, they do not understand its extend. Threats would not silence us from voicing our concern. There would be a time that we would ask for independence and away with your oil. We have our own human and natural resources that are enough for our own reliance.

Where exactly are these madi people from? last time i checked they were from Uganda or something.you can’t hate on Dinkas because they are the majority in South Sudan. Where were these people when the Dinkas and Nuers were fighting for the liberation of this great country? SPLA soldiers did not lose their lives so that the country can be divided by these people. every citizen should live wherever they choose to. Hi Equatorian,

Forget about the land because the Dinka you are talking about don’t understand resolving issues in peaceful manner…but through violence. When you say you will use your positive ladies to infect Dinka men with HIV/AIDS virus then its already a prove that you are coward people and Dinka will not leave your land unless you do what Zande did to them in Yambio three years ago.

So you either forget about the land or fight Dinka. Remember, we are free in South Sudan today because of our Martyr who died for this land. Therefore, you need to sacrifice the life of some of your young men to free Madi Land from Dinka.

The question here is not about all Dinka, but Dinka Bor in particular, why doesn’t it pain you most when someone told you to go home, don’t you have lands in your place? Look this communist ideology of Garang is dead and I don’t understand why the Madi community are shouting here, the solution is simple just mobilize your youth, get support from your brothers in northern Uganda and purge those people from your place as others did in 2005 and they are now free and proud on their own land. Just simple like that.

    Dear Reader,

Madi Community is well known for peaceful coexistence with any other hostile tribes who may think Madi are coward. I thank Mr. Angelo Morgan for the wise initiative. This will mark as the first step for government to have a said, failure to do so peace is tempered with in South Sudan. “Lemi is the Answer”

My message for those thinking Madi Community is a coward people; that both the coward and non coward will seep blood when they go for war or state of nature. The Ancestral land of Madi is just like any other ancestral land of any major and minority tribes. “We have lemi of the land”.

Madi land is not America for IDP’s. It is not a slave state for all citizen of South Sudan. Community identity must be respected by the ruling government, failure to do so regret.

The Liberation war of Sudan is fought by all and ended in referendum vote as a final journey to peace, madi community is not exception and may not be a new source for war but whoever insists and need war will face it.

Who is not displaced during the war and who did not leave his home village and how did Dinka reached Madi land and why? Honestly we all left our exact home, being Dinka, Madi, and Nuer Bari etc. Peace is celebrated to show direction leading to our original place of displacement. We are not refusing to live with others but be on government appointment or for work/business. He who think Madi land is a paradise for his or her stay should make his ancestral land a paradise like what madi did on there ancestral land.

Peaceful move ends in war and war ends in peaceful point and all will be the eye witness if not taken care of.

We love Peace in our Mother Land.

    Dear friends and colleagues,

I really like the discussion because all your ideas are truly the one needed to push this nation to the desired destination. I can concur with Mr. Luke, that it is the right of Madi people to say yes we need to settle and design the kind of development they wish to do so long the number of those outsiders say none Madi don’t exceed the number of indigenous.

Madi are peaceful community and if there is reason they feel ill of outsiders not because they don’t like them but the number is too much. I stayed in Nimule and studied in Motoyo Primary school and what I got about them (Madi) they are indeed hospitable people more than anyone else in South Sudan.

We the Dinka have missed one thing and this very one think is seeing ourselves as the only liberators who only liberated this nation. Indeed we did more than any one else because of the numerical strength by nature and because of that also that is why you find our number is even greater than any other community in South Sudan including in the cemetery.
We have moved to Nimule during those nasty days but now there is peace, let us go back to Dinka lands. Even innocent Dinka who could not afford life in none Dinka land wants to migrate, what is that. We can easily be seen like invaders. We have even moved cattle there yet they are problematic and that why lifestyle of cattle keepers is full of difficulties compared to farmers.

Let Madi determine the use of their land, otherwise the constitution did not say we migrate to another land. Why did we hate Arabs, is it not because they occupy other land and begin naming it with their names, like today our places at the north South borders bear Arabic name. say Heglig. To the Madi people, not all Dinka have migrated but you need to name particular section of Dinka so that other Dinkas don;t feel guilty of what they have not done.

Brother Edema, what is taking place in madi land will not end in it but the whole of equatorial region will experience it.They tried in western Equatorial but they were confronted bitterly by the arrow boys. This shows that there is a very clear agenda against the Equatorian as mention in Nhomlawda comment above( kokora hang over) and you can ever grab from most of the commentators, Here our usual antibiotics treatment of these kind of issues are not good, there is a need of an absolute solution which can clean the whole of Equatoria region and that implies the adaption of mosaic laws.

I salute you dude, I hope you will rule this country one day and give everyone his or her rights, this issue here is not about all Dinka community, the Dinka Bor in particular because they are using the same methods that the Arabs did naming villages and rivers in their own language, is that not occupation? controlling the forests and telling the villagers to take permission from their chiefs(in the luak) if they want to go and hunt or even cut trees or grasses for building, harassing them on their own land.

They were purged from WES in 2005 because of such behavior and Dinka didn’t come for their support because many were even blaming them. The plots that they occupied in towns there have their owners so if they want a land or plots let them talk with the land lords to lease it or sale it to them, but taking it forcefully like that they may end up losing everything. I swear this peace is not going to last for long, let them start thinking about now.

Equatorians are complaining because they are segregationists and Dinka is waiting for an opportunity to teach them a lesson to prevent future generations from being segregationists.

Equatorian segragation made many to collaborate with Arabs against Dinka during the war and we have not forgiven them for that, we are just waiting for an opportunity for them to show signs of kokora and we will unleash kokora hangover to confront their foolishness, which we are tired of.

It is like having a choice between cholera and HIV/AIDS. And because these jenges have no better choice, they´d better die in Madiland. Regrettably, the Madi have been slow and docile. What is required is the Moru approach. First poison all water points for the cows and then use bows and arrows to flush off the rest. It worked in Moruland, Azandeland, Kukuland, Fajululand why not in Madiland? The Madi have just to mobilise themselves and make a short process!!

From your articles one can deduce that you are totally unreasonable, uncultured, subhuman and ignorant of repercussions of inciting your people to cause insecurity in the country. You must intellectually view solutions for problems. No one wants any South Sudanese to shed blood for senseless things. We all fought for this land to be free from social-economic injustice and political freedom. No single tribe of South Sudan is above the others. Their misconception that they liberated other tribes and therefore granted them the wantom freedom of institutionalizing injustice, robbery and plan for genocide on others because they control the machinery of the government is an illusion. Come on. Think positive. Tell your kinsmen to go home to wherever they are from to develop that part of the country. There is no reason for them to be where they are now as the war is finished. In short there is no longer insecurity where they came from. You should know that the stick that you want to beat people with can also be used to be you. Your actions should be for a justice cause but not for what you think now. Please guy wake up!

it’s good enough that your comment will open the minds of those Equatorians who are always claiming to be nationalistic while you guys are plotting day and night to occupy their region. When some of us talk of land grabbing, intimidations, and other vices practice by dinka against the Equatorians, they too called us segregationists but thanks to God that you have decided to utter the truth, bcoz for many times I had been asking myself and other people why all this constant flow of dinka into Equatoria land? some people told me that, these guys are not peaceful people by nature and that is why there is a rampant insecurity in their region, hence others decided to run in to Equatoria, while the other side of the narrative stresses on laziness that, these guys are very lazy people who are just moving after ready made, and if you want to prove it, please visit the houses and offices of their government officials ever the president’s house you will see how they scramble in these places, it’s really a pity!.But for me i considered the above arguments as secondary reasons but the primary reasons is the lesson that mr nhomlawad is dreaming to teach the Equatorians. My friend don’t be in hurry, bcoz that day is obviously on process if you like it or not, it has become an alternative solution to resolve many outstanding issues backdating to the liberation days.Don’t let your mechanical majority to over-take you, bcoz in war you can’t embark on figures but rather there are many things to be taken into consideration and also it’s very early to name yourself a teacher, bcoz the whole equation lays on the philosophy of nietzsche( the survival of the fittest), there is a need of bracing our shoulders as many of you understood manhood in this nature or direction or suggested it to be one of the cardinal criteria to weight our strength and weakness, bcoz for you guys are just like arabs, you don’t adhere to those who use peaceful means of resolving disputes but rather to those who are brutal and ruth.As one of the nuer young man once wrote a comment in southsudanation website suggesting something called ” A correctional war in souther sudan”, because there is a tribe claiming to be the liberator.
Mr Nhomlawad, it doesn’t required intelligence for an Equatorian to distinquish between a dinka, nuer and Shilluk.

Mr Nhomlawda, sometimes i have the sentiment that you don’t ready what you are writing and if you read them, you don’t listen to them and if you listen to them, you don’t sense the value of the fire you are placing on the dry grass, and if truly you sense the fire then am left to conclude that there is a sense of irresponsibility here.
The other sentiment is that, you might be an intruder in southern skin.
“joking with fire” who is the fire? Madi or dinka? you should feel ashamed of denying your fellow southerner just bcoz you want to occupy his land and wanting to send him to exile.
once upon a time i decided to asked one of an arab man, what is the meaning behind the mohammed wardi song( Na sudani)?the answer was that wardi was expressing his pride of the nation. But that is not true, bcoz the arab knows that they are just intruders like wise with you dinka, you singing everywhere that you are the liberators but deep down in your heart you know the truth.

    @John
I didn’t want to reply to this post because southerns allow to live everywhere they want to live in south Sudan and respect the law, but not to take land of people and say constitution allow you to do so. Dinka didn’t librate themselves how they can librate all Equtorians? The truth is SPLA never fight to librate south Sudan but they have been fighting for all Sudan which they failed. Can you tell me which Dinka town Dinka librate before we sign the peace with Jallaba? all Dinkas big towns were under control of jallaba. Why alway Dinkas have to create problem wherever they go? Is it because of their nature? They did the same things in west Equatoria mistreated Azande people telling them they librate them, as all of us know Azande people, are people of peace, and they also well known as they are like ,sleeping elephant, Dinka came to west E start changing names of places to Dinka names like little Bor in Yambio city one day azande community couldn’t take it anymore the next all of you know what happened to Dinka in Yambio they can talk about it themselves. Madi community have to deal with their brothers Dinkas in that situation peacefully we don’t want war. What I can’t understand there is many tribes in south Sudan why alway Dinka tribe have to be the center of every problem of south Sudan?

    Next president of south Sudan
