Security is one of the major issues facing the nascent country after it seceded from Sudan in July. The tightening of security is seen as direct response to the public outcry after several crimes were carried out by groups wearing either police or military uniforms.

General Acuil Tito Madut, Inspector General of South Sudan Police Service, on Sunday, said in an interview with Sudan Tribune, that police forces have scaled up night patrols in areas witnessing increased crimes.

The General disclosed that some members of the armed groups accused of robbery and killings had been arrested. On Wednesday a pastor in Jebel Kunjur, West of Juba was murdered.

“There are groups camouflaging police and military uniforms at night to commit a crime. This is why we have imposed restrictive movement at night in order to help police identify these groups”, said Madut.

“Some people have been arrested because there are evidences indicating that they were behind the killing which occurred in Atlabara.”

Madut gave no details on what may have cause the killing of a pastor in Jebel Kunjur.

James Mawien Kuc, a businessman in Juba town said the incident was troubling and that its root causes needed to be addressed by the government urgently.

“The government needs to nip this in the bud, or it’s going to escalate into something much, much worse,” said Kuc.

“The government cannot allow this to continue. All those involved in committing crimes should be identified and brought to justice,” he said.

The worst situation is that of Jonglei. 4 killed is nothing compared to 400 killed. Here you don’t know the attackers, there we know the attackers.

Juba will never be safe until there is safety everywhere. It seems like the officials don’t understand the interconnection of everything from state to state, from town to town, from tribe to tribe, from person to person.

Juba residents must be so lucky to receive a prompt response from the government and the Police.

The questions that remain to be answered by the concern authorities are; who and when will residents from remote villages be protected from lives and properties takers?

Well iam happy that the security forces especially the road junctions forces working at night, are widely seen all around juba these days especially at late night between 10-12 pm with small vehicles, but what suprises me and what am seeing on the ground as a witness is that these forces with their cars can be found in bars and tea places at night , my question is , are they authorize to make security in bars and tea places ?or in main road junctions,am asking those who are in charge of these road junction police to monitor these people to fine out if this is true or not.
