Sudanese court sentences a Darfur rebel to death by hanging for attacks in S. Kordofan
August 26, 2011 (KHARTOUM) — A Sudanese judge on Thursday sentenced to death by hanging a commander of the rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) involved in an attack on a garrison of Sudan’s Armed Forces (SAF) in Southern Kordofan last month.
The rebel group which is active mainly in Darfur region also confirmed the arrest of three of its members by the Sudanese army including El-Tom Hamed Toto. Sudan’s official news agency SUNA published an interview with the arrested rebel and presented him as commander of JEM fighters in the state.
A court headed by Abdalla Mohamed Nur, in Kadugli on Thursday sentenced the rebel commander to death for undermining the constitutional order, stirring up war against the state and wearing a military uniform.
Hamed according to SUNA acknowledged he is JEM’s political representative in the Nuba Mountains but denied leading the attack or wearing military uniform. However, the prosecutor stressed that he was arrested during the attack, wearing a SAF uniform but with the logo of the southern Sudan army SPLA.
In a statement yesterday JEM denounced the sentence recalling that Hamed is a military commander in a rebel group recognised by the Sudanese government. The rebel movement said he should be treated as prisoner of war.
Gibreel Adam Bilal, JEM spokesperson, urged the international community and rights group to press on the Sudanese government in order to save his live.
JEM and other Darfur rebel groups are negotiating with the SPLM-North a political alliance aiming to overthrow the government of the National Congress Party.

I blame Obama for all this. He supporting those Criminal in Khartoum. Imagine we SPLA didnot killed POW during the civilwar,when we were REBEL. We kept more then thousand POW until peace agreement was signed and we hand them over to Sudan government in Khartoum. meanwhile they didnot return our people that were captured during the civilwar. We should have killed them all. We even capured the high Ranking Officers from SAF. Those people in are Racist and some day they will be remove by force if Obama pay deaf hear on such racist government. All marginalizes people of NUBA,FUNJ,FUR,BEJA and the rest will raise up and BASHIR will be hang in Khartoum not the ICC Court. God is willing.

Darfur rebel commander isn’t guilty and shuoldn’t be hanging!!if khartuom hanging such innocent then there will be no legitimate gorment in khartourm…khartoum leave the south kordufan governor,harun shuold be hanged because he killed pple in darfur and nuba mountain and abyei..omar bashir shuold be hanged as well because he killed 2 million people north-south war.he declare jihad as south sudanese in 1993.. to kill civilian.
