The Lakes state minister of health, Samuel Mayek Deng, told the press on Monday that all staff who were on strike due to the non-payment of wages will resume their normal duties on the same day.

He gave assurances that the ministry administration will give them full employment, and payment will begin in September.

Mayek, said that the payment of unclassified staff will be handled by a committee, which will also deal with the government payroll system.

He explained that he has written a directive to his administrative staff instructing them to employ the qualified staff by September 9th and to ensure that they receive their salaries in the same month.

The head of striking staff in Yirol East, James Adut Majok confirmed the ministry’s decision, saying that the staff will be returning to their health care centres immediately.

Last Friday more than 36 Primary Health Care Center’s were indefinitely closed by health workers, due to the non-payment of salaries. These were staffed by 120 people, some of whom had not received their full salaries since 2009. After NGOs ended their support for the centres, the government did not take up the full financial slack.

In the 2010 elections, the Lakes state governor pledged to improve health, education and security if he took power, but once in he gained his seat complained of insufficient funding needed to realise his goals.

    John,
Can’t you sometimes be logical in all your comments you make on this website? Yes, no doubt that your constant hatred toward the current government is known. But I insist that always be reasonable when addressing national issues. Insulting governor or minister for false allegations won’t solve the problems.
So I advise you to focus on what would really brighten your future and leave these nasty comments.

pay striking health workers is a solution.
    Mr. Samuel,
Paying the Health Workers is a solution of the crises, If you can compare the standard of living of the entire population in Lakes State, You can see these people who took long time witout payment had suffered indeed.
Secondly, If you make the employment of Primary Health Care Centres on september 9th,Don’t Exclude Maper, because people are dying here and there is no proper medication, Is because of no Health Care Workers in Maper.Don’t allow the corrupt committee to make the employment themsleves, they will employ their relatives rather than fair bases.
Go ahead with you smooth Administration.
