The Unity state council of ministers made a resolution to immediately instructing the state ministry of health to shut down all the unrecognised drugs sellers last Wednesday.

Manong Thot Teny, director general of the state ministry of health confirmed the crackdown.

With regards to fears of overcrowding in Benitu hospital, which has only 100 beds, Teny said that appropriate licenses would be issued shortly.

William Chieng Dador, who operates in Rubkotna county as a pharmacist and drug vendor told Sudan Tribune that the state government “shut down all privates pharmacies in the area”. He said the main reason for the closures was a lack of qualifications by employees.

Teny said that as of last Thursday, only five of the state’s pharmacies and private clinics have resumed full service and that the licensing process will continue.
