Sudan’s FM to lead delegation for UN General Assembly meetings
September 13, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese foreign minister Ali Karti will lead the country’s delegation to the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) from September 21 to 30 2011, Sudan official news agency (SUNA) reported.
Daffa-Alla Elhag Ali Osman, Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the UN told SUNA that the mission is working on the preparatory arrangements for the country’s participation.
Osman said that UNGA agenda includes one hundred and sixty-eight items, ranging from topics related to achieving economic growth and sustainable development in the world with sub-items including international trade, international financial system and the ability to withstand external debt and development in Africa.
Also on the agenda of the UNGA are matters concerning the maintenance of international peace and security, promoting human rights, promoting justice and international law and effective coordination of humanitarian assistance efforts.
On the sidelines of the event, Karti will take part in meetings of Arab and Pacific nations foreign ministers, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Non-Aligned movement (NAM) and G-77.
He will also meet with his P-5 counterparts in United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and other nations as well as UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
