Bashir invites Kiir for talks amid rising inflation between countries

By Ngor Arol Garang

October 1, 2011 (JUBA) – President Bashir of the Republic of Sudan has invited his former deputy Salva Kiir Mayardit of the newly independent republic of South Sudan for talks as food prices continue to increase in both countries.

The invitation follows the signing of an understanding between the two countries establishing ten entry check along their new international border to facilitate the movement for goods and people.

If it takes place, the meeting of the two heads of state is viewed as
cheapest way to addressing challenges between countries after Sudan
finally accepted breaking the country into two separate and
independent states, several years following repeated demands for
separation of the south from the north.

South Sudan officially proclaimed its sovereignty in July after
conducting credible elections on the self determination for the people
of south Sudan in which majority voted overwhelmingly in favor of
secession from the rest of Sudan. The January’s vote was a provision
of the 2005 which ended the destructive and one of the longest running
civil war on the African continent in which an estimated 2.5 people
were killed and 4million displaced.

Speaking to journalists shortly after weekly cabinet meeting chaired
by President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Barnaba Marial Benjamin, minister of
information and broadcasting service said president Kiir has accepted
invitation of his Sudanese counter president Bashir to visit Khartoum
next week. “

“President Kiir with number of ministers and heads of various
institutions will go next week.
The talks would discuss issues if mutual cooperation and relations
between the two countries. The talks would focus on post independence
arrangements particularly issues connected with the oil charges,
border, the Abyei and the fate of old Sudanese pound as well as the
citizenship right and residence”, said Marial declining additional
comments.

Marial explained that the weekly meeting was briefed by president
Kiir himself on his recent official visit to the United States of
America to attend the 66th General Assembly of the United Nations in
New York where met and held talks with leaders from other countries
including president Obama of the United States of America, Jacob Zuma
of South Africa, the Austrian president, Eritreans president and
leaders from other nations including Indian prime minister.

The president, he said, briefed the council about his meeting in
Nairobi with Lam Akol Ajawin, the leader of an opposition political
party, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement for democratic change.
He said president Kiir informed the council that Akol agreed return
home in order with assurance of commitment to contribute to the nation
building. The meeting was also addressed by Hilde F.Johnson, special
representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations.

How do you feel when you read this line? “The meeting was also addressed by Hilde F. Johnson, special representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations”.
Since when has it become a normal practice for a foreigner to not only attend, but also participate and address a weekly council of ministers’ meeting of a sovereign state?
Has RSS become a UN Protectorate? what a sovereignty?

Great move for Albeshir for deciding to talk about the issue. They both should swallow their pride and work for the seek of Sudanese. We are all still Sudanese although The Land is divided. This was what John Garang did not want to happen because unity makes people more stronger economically and militerly. If John Garang is still alive, there wouldn’t be such a falling of economic.

    Mr Ramba,
Which system would best serve the interest of our people? A democratic, semi- democratic or a dictatorial system? Suppose you favour a democratic rule over the other two options, can you then confirm whether the current GORSS’s institutions are democratised or not? Do you think a democratic system would be implemented without guidance or pressure of the international community?

Bashir and Kiir have to resolve the pending issues bewteen the two countries peacefully and urgently to curve the price rises in our brotherly nations. It is a big shame and ridicules too to let the NCP and SPLM argumentative policies to hold everyone as a scapegoat in Sudan and RoSS!! What is left for you to quarrel over again as your confrontational policies have led to the division of sudan!!

What kind of talk would al Bashir gonna respect yet he dishonored many talks including Addis Ababa round table. People imagine the way he is insinuating the boiling interest in him alone. The personal interest to the North Sudan. If I was Kiir, I’d have ignored the calls sideway and move on with the South nothing less nothing more.

The invitation without good result has no meaning the president of sudan should put this in his mind ,solving issues without a witness has no meaning again.

    Dear South Sudanese,
Remember “No man is an island” The invitation by Bashir to iron out differences with Kiir should not be seen a deceptive move.Bashir understands what international cooperation is all about.Any economic instability in nieghboring Sudan will automatically affect the South.Greek debt crisis has now affected all the Euro-Zone countries.Let us not always put on political glasses.
