According to Charet Basol the pilot of the plane, the crash was caused by a flat tire on the right hand side that had gone undetected.

Upon landing the aircraft slid off the right hand side of the runway and into waterlogged grass.

Large planes were unable to land at the airport from 8:30am to 2:00pm as there was not enough space for them to land.

Basol said he took off from Juba with the plane in a good condition, and only realised that a tire on one side was flat while landing.

The plane’s back left tire broke off as the plane slipped off the runway.

“We suspected that something happened to the tire and we are going to investigate it. They don’t think that it was due to the condition of the runway,” he said.

The crew who of engineers who came from to repair the aircraft hired a crane to move it from the runway.

All ok leaving juba, flat tyre (right) undetected, left rear tyre finished, gr8 comment of pilot to suspect something happened to tyre. WFP pay for plane repairs from from pilot and ground crew’s salaries for not doing correct pre flight checks. Governor, charge WFP to repair yr airstrip
