Warrap state calls on Unity state to disarm its civilians

October 22, 2011 (JUBA) – The governor of Warrap state, Nyandeng Malek, has called on her counterpart in Unity state, Taban Deng Gai, to disarm his populations in Mayandit county following an attack on Tonj East county of Warrap on Wednesday.

On Friday, governor Nyandeng said her Tonj East county came under attack by cattle raiders from the neighboring Mayandit county, killing at least one person and wounding many more. She called for disarmament of the populations in the attacking county.

Nyandeng however acknowledged, according to a report published by The Citizen newspaper on Saturday, that both her community and that of Unity state governor, Deng, have not completely been disarmed.

Mayandit county was last month attacked by cattle raiders from Tonj East county in Warrap state killing 28 people, making the recent incident appear to be a revenge attack.

Warrap state governor is under the constant threat of removal by the state legislative assemblies over the issues which include insecurity in the state. There have been reports of conflicts within the state communities as well as cross border raids with communities in Unity state.

    Magueldiak,

First, You need to understand that Unity State has no single minister in the national government who can come and appologize for the killing of that one Dinka from Luakjieng in Warrap. Second, despite the huge number of dinka ministers in National level, none of them visited mayiandit when 46 were butchered by the said Dinka last month. Finally, stop being a supporter of tribalism.
