Lakes state council of members passed state constitution
October 26, 2011 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s Lakes state adopted a new transitional constitution on Tuesday in an extraordinary sitting. The long waited constitution was passed unanimously by the state’s council of ministers and approved by governor Chol Tong Mayay.
Speaking to press shortly after the passed state constitution acting spokesman for the state, Mabor Mayen Wol, described Tuesday as a day of happiness for the people of Lakes state.
“The state council of ministers call for extra ordinary sitting and discuses further on second reading of the constitution and technical work done on the formatting and the amendment within the model constitution and today was the last discussion as the third and final reading, so the constitution of Lakes state was pass unanimously – it is pass unanimously by the members of the council of ministers and this is a very good day and it is happy day for the people of Lakes state” said Mayen.
However, Mayen express confident on state Assembly assuming that Lakes state Assembly will reschedule it own day to deliberate furthermore on state model constitution to be passed into law.
Mayen noted that “Passably as the state government is serious and our assembly is also serious waiting for the constitution, they are prepare and all of this time they have been waiting to see into it that council of ministers finish the constitution and brought to them for their deliberation in the assembly so that the act it into law and maybe tomorrow it will be taken into assembly and assembly will schedule it own day to act this into law”.
Lakes state constitution was most long waited by public to see into it that their rights are placed inside constitution.
In a separate story. The Students of First year in University of Rumbek, are urging Rumbek University administration to speed up process for quick registration and lectures for the first year students.
Speaking to Press, the students’ representative Celestino Maluak Deng say that the First year students in Rumbek University are being undermined by University administration since their admission. He say there are no accurate date for the lectures or registration process being made clearly by university administration to students of first year intake. He urge university administration to speed up with student demand.
Maluak said that “The general announcement that was made of by the minister of higher education in the republic of South Sudan that all universities in South Sudan have to open, also we came – we were told the something, the something we were told to go back – so we wonder really – now as you have see, these student are being hug – they are not given accurate date of when are the going to take register or when their lectures will open – even we asking the administration of university when are you going to specify the date, yet the are not giving as information as student of university of Rumbek”.
However, Rumbek University Acting Vice Chancellor Professional Michael Maker Mangony, tell Miraya that students for First year were not invite to attend lectures because of lack of basic facilities required by University administration. He noted that University administration is trying it level best to find solutions for solving the first year students’ problem.
Professional Mangony ensure saying that “for the first year, we could not invite them because of the lack of basic facilities like damnatory, lectures halls and even dinning halls for them – so we have been making attempt to find solution to these problems and we are still trying to find solution to problems. one of the alternative is this place here the UNICEF to be handed to us – we are using it partially and the institute of education is using another part of it – if we would have been give this premise, we would invite them anytime”.
This is the first time Rumbek University students throw their complains since it was reopen in August 2011.
