Sudan lodges second UNSC complaint against the South this year

November 5, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese government on Saturday announced that it has lodged a complaint with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) against its southern neighbor on allegations its supporting rebel groups.

security_council.jpgThe ministry of foreign affairs said that its ambassador at the UN, Dafalla Al-Haj Ali Osman, outlined in his letter the violations by South Sudan of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), through aiding rebel groups in the border states of South Kordofan and Blue Nile.

Among the accusations detailed in the complaint is sending the rebels anti-aircraft missiles, anti-tank missiles, ammunition, mines and guns.

Furthermore, South Sudan allegedly sent its army field commanders to assist the rebels to improve their performance as well as allowing Darfur rebels to transit through its territories inside to Blue Nile and South Kordofan.

Sudan goes on to claim South Sudan sent military flights to drop off artillery crews and also dispatched an infantry battalion to strengthen the insurgency in Kurmuk and Baraka in the Blue Nile state.

This is the second time since August that Khartoum has filed a complaint against South Sudan with the UNSC.

South Sudan became an independent state last July after a largely peaceful referendum conducted last January. However, tensions between the two states have continued to grow.

Sudan is battling the Sudan People Liberation Movement North (SPLM-N) in Blue Nile and South Kordofan, in conflicts that erupted this year.

SPLM-N used to be the northern sector of the South Sudan dominant party when the country was united.

For its part, South Sudan has repeatedly accused Sudan of supporting rebels operating in the area south of the border. Sudan denies the charges.

The feud between the two countries is exacerbated by unresolved post-secession issues such as borders, Abyei, national debt, oil sharing and water.

These accusations are baseless and have no merits or whatsoever. In fact, they are trying to cover up their support for the so-called SSLA in South Sudan. Evidence were uncover recently that shows Sudan government is arming South Sudan rebels. Evidence such as Chinese made weapons that aren’t found anywhere but in Sudan. So, the idea to lodge these complaints against South is to cover up their tac

How can they be baseless. A child would see the relationship between SPLM & SPLM-N. They are same army, command and weapons. All of the SPLM-N army still wears the badges of the SPLM and South Sudan flag. Almost all their Generals & many of the forces are currently in South Sudan. They have regular meetings between Alhilu, Arman and Agar with SPLM generals and Darfur rebels. We’re not fools !

No one in the world has any doubt about these accusations. Only blind SPLM supporters. What the GOS needs to do is not prove the South’s involvement (that’s obvious), but try and get documentations of others like USA, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia in their support and transfer of arms and weapons to the SPLM-n Via South Sudan.

    Sam,
What evidence do you have that shows otherwise? If there is anyone who is blind here it’s you. You’re backing the accusations based on your blind hatred for the people of South Sudan.

Has not the 2005 CPA now expired? If so how can you make a complaint based on breaches of something that no longer exists?

Look who is blind ! after all that i explained and reasons i gave you still say what evidence i have? The SPLM-N army is part of the SPLM and all those who rebelled against the GOSS were generals within the SPLM – they took their weapons and men and went into the jungle. Its easy for the SPLM to supply heavy armor the SPLM how does SAF transfer arms to Junglai and Unity with the SPLM all over.

You people must wise up, what north Sudan is doing at United Nations, they are building paper trail in the mind of the world community before invading half of South Sudan.

The government of South Sudan is over 3 month old, it must be ready to defend its citizen by all means. Southern Army must be in a defensive position and on guard all times.

It’s really very confusing when you see Sudan talking to UNSC and at the same time Sudan does not recognise actions taken by UNSC against Sudan it self. what does it mean when you acuse South and you don’t comply with UNSC mandates all time?
