Jonglei governor sacks Pibor commissioner

November 6, 2011 (BOR) – The governor of Jonglei state, Kuol Manyang, has relieved one of his long serving commissioners, Brigadier General Akot Mazee, from his post as the commissioner of Pibor county.
In August, Murle youth from Pibor county were blamed for a series of tribal clashes with neighbouring counties in Jonglei in which over 600 people were killed, hundreds of children and women abducted, thousands displaced and many cows stolen.
Despite many attempts by South Sudan Council of Churches and the state government to initiate inter-communal peace, little has been done to stop Pibor county’s young men from attacking neighbouring counties.
In a press conference in his office on Saturday November 5, governor Manyang confirmed Mazee had been sacked but declined to give the reasons for his decision.
“Akot had criticised the government for what I felt to be not true,” Manyang said without giving details.
Manyang said “a government official cannot criticise the government publicly in radios, newspapers and [on] TV.”
He said the county’s executive director, Chol Bel shall act as the commissioner until his office appoints somebody as the commissioner after consultations.
The former commissioner told Sudan Tribune over the phone said he would not speculate in the media about the reasons behind his sacking, as he was not aware of why he was fired.
However he said that what happened was normal and he was happy with the governor’s decision.

Akot Mazee was the person who had never take his foot to Khartoum until the CPA reached and Kuol Manyang must be careful relieving him was not a good Idea.

The article deliberately omits the earlier 1000 Murle who were killed by Nuer prior to the 600 Killed by Murle youth in retaliation. Kuol Manyang was is going to remain a killer and plotter. Now kiir should sack Kuol Manyang too next week

Dear Jonlei Citizens,
Mr.Akot Mazee was not a problem to Pibor county but those whose wealth was based on raiding somebody’s property,however,if KuolManyang finds it to be a possible solution, let him extend that power to Unity state to re leave the commissioner of Mayom county because they are killing people of Konggor yearly.They are governosrs so let have that memo.

If Gov. Koul Manag think that by remove Pibor Commissioer is a solution to problem in his state why he himself not removed so that George Atour problem will be put to an end. i think Gonr. Koul is creating more problem to his state and the Centeral govt. must act now before things get worse.

kuol had every reason to relieve his appointee ,but he should build his case of sacking by informing his subject on what had gone wrong ,and it consequence, is sacking.kuol had not been very impressive in his governance, he have completely failed the state ,he does everything at will with impunity,he wanted to displace his failure to others by sacking without valid reason.

Another unfortunate decision by the governor. The first wrong decision was removing Pochalla County commissioner and appointed Dinka as a “acting Commissioner” and now the governor removed Pibor County Commissioner and appointed antoher Dinka as a “acting Commissioner.” what coincident…?

Yes being a government employee and criticise it publicly is a clear political ignorant, let him go back to the military rank.
I think one of the reasons might be; when his tribemen attacked Lou Nuer, he defended them denying his knowledge of the movement of thausands from his county to attack lou nuer.
Simply he has knowledge about this attack, otherwise he would have reported.

i cannot understand the crisis in jongeli coz the state government is doing nothing to stop unnecessary killing resulting from cattle raiding been carryout on tribal bases and the perpetrator are not apprehended to face justice then who is to be blame the governor or commissioner for me governor is to be blame for what is happening in his state.did he stand with one tribe or the whole state?
